Wagenborg Installs Shore Power Connection on Kroonborg Vessel

Wagenborg Offshore has installed and commissioned a shore connection system on the Kroonborg walk-to-work (W2W) vessel in collaboration with NAM/Shell UK, and the support of Dutch province of North Holland.The shore power system was developed and engineered by Dutch company Eekels Technology.Additionally, Eekels Technology, in partnership with the Port of Den Helder, is advancing a hydrogen shore power generator project in cooperation with the Port of Harlingen and Groningen Seaports.The hydrogen generator is set to become operational by the end of 2023.

Korean Shipbuilders Get AiP for Barge-type LNG FSRU

Classification society DNV and the Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry (LISCR) have granted an Approval in Principle (AiP) to South Korea's shipbuilders Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) and Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (KSOE) for a 40,000 CBM barge-type LNG Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU). Partners Set Out to Develop CO2 Carrier Designs

HMD LNG Carrier Gets AIP From the Korean Register

The Korean Register (KR) has awarded Approval In Principle (AIP) for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier with a prismatic IMO type-B tank built by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD). The ship is a small to medium-sized LNG carrier with a B-type cargo tank developed as a result of a technical collaboration project between KR and HMD, which began in February 2020.The type-B tank is usually applied to the fuel tanks of large sized container ships or bulk carriers but HMD has developed the technology to apply it to small and medium-sized LNG carriers of 30,000 cubic meter capacity.

S.Korea Announces $690M Shipping Aid

South Korea' Financial Services Commission has announced 820 billion won ($690 million)  in funding to help modernize aging passenger boats and cargo ships.According to a Yonhap, the package is meant to help smaller shipping companies build 59 new ships -- 21 passenger boats and 38 cargo vessels.The Financial Services Commission announced that shipping companies will be reimbursed for up to 60 percent of the cost of the new vessels, and South Korea's state-run Korea Ocean Business Corp. will guarantee more than 95 percent of the loans.The Korea Development Bank will also fund 20 percent of the cost needed for building a ship.According to the report…

Petronas Names Second FLNG in S. Korea

Malaysian oil and gas company Petronas named its second floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility, the PFLNG Dua, in a ceremony in Geoje, South Korea.The floating LNG facility is designed to extract gas from deepwater gas reservoirs in depths up to 1,500 meters.With PFLNG Dua, the national oil and gas company of Malaysia owns and operates two floating LNG facilities, following the success of PFLNG Satu which has been in operation since 2017. SHI to Pay $75m in Fine: US Justice Dept

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries Co. GRS in South Korea Collaboration

IMO Holds Counter Terrorism Training for S.Asian Countries

Legal experts and port and maritime security officers from Bangladesh, Maldives and Sri Lanka have gathered at  International Maritime Organization (IMO)  in London (27-29 November) for a focused sub-regional workshop on implementing transport-related (maritime) counter terrorism instruments.A press note from IMO said that the joint United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and IMO Counter Terrorism/Security sub-regional workshop was a follow-up to three national workshops in the same countries."This is part of an ongoing UNODC/IMO project to boost implementation of IMO maritime security and counter terrorism treaties, including SOLAS Chapter XI-2 and the suppression of unlawful acts (SUA) instruments.
