Diana Shipping Sells Its Oldest Vessel

Diana Shipping on Tuesday announced it has reached a deal to sell its oldest vessel, an 18-year-old panamax bulk carrier.The Greek shipowner said it has reached a memorandum of agreement through one of its subsidiaries to sell the 76,942 dwt vessel Artemis to an undisclosed third-party buyer for $12.99 million. Very Large LPG/Ammonia Carrier Phoenix Harmonia Enters Service

The Phoenix Harmonia, a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) powered very large LPG/ammonia carrier, has been constructed by Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and delivered to MOL Energia Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-based company of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Group, on September 29.Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a part of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group, supported Namura and contributed to the delivery of the vessel, based on a technical cooperation agreement executed between the two companies in August 2021.

Coal Carrier Energia Azalea Named at Namura Shipbuilding Yard in Japan

Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines said Thursday that a naming ceremony was held for the next-generation coal carrier Energia Azalea at Namura Shipbuilding. Panama Says Three Ships Hit by Russian Missiles in Black Sea Since Start of Ukraine Invasion

Three Panamanian-flagged ships have been hit by Russian missiles in the Black Sea since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last month, Panama’s Maritime Authority said on Wednesday.One ship sank, the maritime authority said in a statement, but there were no casualties reported. The two others remain afloat with damages.“We know that we had three ships that were attacked by Russian missiles but the crew is all safe, we had material damage,” said Noriel Arauz, the administrator of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP).The three affected ships were Namura Queen, Lord Nelson and Helt.

Oldendorff Announces New Fleet Additions

German shipping company Oldendorff Carriers said on Tuesday that earlier this year it ordered a Capesize bulk carrier newbuild at Namura Shipbuilding in Japan and purchased a trio of secondhand Post-panamax bulkers from three Japanese owners.The 182,000 tdw eco Capesize newbuild is due for delivery during the fourth quarter of 2022. Wisdom Marine Adds Newbuild

Taiwanese shipping company Wisdom Marine Lines has taken delivery of a 34,000 dwt bulker newbuilding.The newbuild Bulker, MV Daiwan Miracle, was handed over to Wisdom Marine in Japan on April 2, 2019, after completing sea trials in March, said Wisdom Marine Group, the largest dry bulk shipowner in Taiwan by number of vessels.MV Daiwan Miracle is an eco-ship built by Namura Shipbuilding Co, Japanese shipbuilding and repairing company.Featuring a length of 179.9 meters and a width of 30 meters, the handy bulker has a capacity of 44,100 cubic meters.MV Daiwan Miracle flies the flag of Liberia. Wisdom Marine’s fleet has a fleet of 143 vessels, 14 of which are newbuildings as at June 30th, 2018.

Starting Development of Next-generation Coal Carrier

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines announced that MOL, Tohoku Electric Power Co and Namura Shipbuilding have jointly earned an Approval in Principle (AIP) from Lloyd's Register for the design of an liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered coal carrier. The three companies have moved ahead with this project and recently conducted a Hazard Identification Study (HAZID), and finished the basic design. MOL noted that the AiP marks Japan's first jointly obtained by three companies - a shipping company, cargo owner, and shipbuilder - for a vessel powered by LNG. The vessel design ensures sufficient cargo capacity without making the hull larger by installing the LNG fuel tank at the stern, the partners say.

Japanese Shipbuilders Partner Up

Japanese shipbuilders Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. have reached a basic agreement to form an alliance in the commercial ship business. Together the two companies will seek business synergy and target sustainable growth to strengthen global competitiveness, while also respecting mutual independence, MHI said. The shipbuilders will also work toward establishing a technical alliance to focus on development of new ship designs and technologies, standardization of design and construction, as well as efficient shared use of tools and equipment. In the last month, we have seen the Baltic Dry Index (BDI) recover to the same level it was 12 months ago (see circles in fig.1). Vessel values have started to firm, but not at the same rate and are still at historically low levels. In the last 12 months, contrarian owners have taken advantage of the low values and have been buying cheap tonnage. With hindsight, this looks to have paid off with many values having increased above the purchase price. This article takes a look at which dry bulk owners have been buying the most in the last year.

Japanese Yards Mull Shipbuilding Alliance

Four major Japanese shipbuilders are in discussions to form an alliance in hopes of riding out the industry slump. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) announced in a press release today that it has entered talks with Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. “The move toward forming these alliances targets the integration of MHI's strengths in shipbuilding technology and engineering with the three prospective partners' manufacturing capabilities and cost competitiveness,” MHI said.
