Ignazio Messina & C Adds Secondhand Containership to Its Fleet

Ignazio Messina & C announced it has taken delivery of a secondhand 4,400 TEU containership, now renamed Jolly Clivia.Built in 2010 at the South Korea's Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, the vessel measures 262 meters in length by 32 meters in width, and was previously owned by a German company.The ship will now set sail from Singapore toward Europe with scheduled calls at Mundra (India), Jebel Ali Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Karachi (Pakistan), and is expected to arrive in Genoa at the end of March.

New Fireboat Delivered in Naples, Florida

North Collier Fire Control and Rescue District (NCFR) in Naples, Fla. has taken delivery of a newly built fireboat for fast fire and emergency response, including search and rescue.The 36-foot fireboat is an Ambar 1100 (AM 1100) multi-mission workboat from Silver Ships, based in Theodore, Ala. Axpo Orders LNG Bunkering Vessel Capable of Ship-To-Truck Operations

Italian energy company Axpo has signed a 10-year deal to charter an LNG bunkering vessel which is expected to begin operations in 2025.The agreement has been signed with Italy’s Gas and Heat SpA and the San Giorgio del Porto shipyard. The vessel will be built in the San Giorgio’s shipyard in Piombino, Italy, and will have a capacity of up to 7,500 cubic metres. In the future, the ship could also transport bio-LNG and ammonia. Active off the coast of Naples, the vessel will provide ship-to-ship bunkering as well as ship-to-truck transfer of LNG to tanker trucks onshore

Turkish Vessel Sets Sail off Italy After Special Forces Operation

A Turkish cargo vessel that Italian special forces boarded after the crew detected a group of unidentified people aboard has left waters off the southern city of Naples, website MarineTraffic showed, as police continued to investigate the incident.Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto said on Friday that the special forces operation was launched due to the presence of about 15 migrants on board the vessel.A Turkish transport ministry statement said the Galata Seaways roll-on-roll-off vessel was sailing from the Turkish port of Yalova to Sete in France. The crew realised other people were aboard the ship late on Friday morning, it said.The crew locked themselves in the engine room and alerted maritime authorities in Turkey, who in turn contacted Italy and France.

Italian Forces Board Turkish Cargo Ship to 'Liberate' Crew

Italian cruise line Costa Cruises on Thursday held a christening ceremony for its new flagship, the Costa Toscana, in the port of Barcelona, Spain.The LNG-powered, Italian-flagged ship sailed away from Civitavecchia, Italy on Monday, making a stop in Naples on Thursday, before arriving in Barcelona on Thursday for the christening ceremony. Coin Ceremony Held for MSC's Explora I

A coin ceremony has been held for Explora I, the first of four luxury cruise ships ordered by the Cruises Division of MSC Group for its new luxury brand Explora Journeys, at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.The vessel, whose construction began in June 2021, will enter service in May 2023 and is the first of four ships on order worth more than €2 billion, each with a gross tonnage of approximately 64,000 tons. Each ship will be equipped with 461 guest suites.Construction of Explora II started in October 2021 at Fincantieri’s Castellammare di Stabia (Naples) yard.

Wiggins Pass Dredging Commences

The Coastal Zone Management Dredge Project for Wiggins Pass near Naples, Fla. began on Wednesday, and is estimated to be completed in 40 days.Major maintenance dredging at both Wiggins Pass and Doctors Pass typically occurs on a four- year cycle with minor interim dredging in-between. All dredge projects must be engineered and permitted on an individual basis, a process that can take many months, starting with the most recent annual survey of existing channel conditions. Annual monitoring surveys are performed to keep a close eye on the condition of the inlets

Fincantieri Floats Out MSC Seashore

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri announced Thursday it has floated out the new cruise ship MSC Seashore at its shipyard in Monfalcone. The vessel has been moved to a wet dock where interior outfitting work will continue until delivery to MSC Cruises in July 2021.MSC Seashore, which will be MSC Cruises’ longest ship at 339 metres and the largest and most innovative ever built in Italy, is the third of four vessels in MSC Cruises’ Seaside class, following MSC Seaside and MSC Seaview launched in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

MSC Will Resume Cruises on August 16

Switzerland-based MSC Cruises announced Monday that it will resume "full-experience" cruise operations on select ships in the Mediterranean starting from mid-August.The cruise lines flagship MSC Grandiosa will sail in the West Mediterranean from August 16 and MSC Magnifica in the West Mediterranean from August 29. Fincantieri Signs Contract with Chantiers de l’Atlantique

Fincantieri has been awarded an order from Chantiers de l’Atlantique (CdA) for the construction of the forward sections of four vessels based on the Italian “Vulcano” design.The forward sections will be built in Castellammare di Stabia (Naples), as for the “Vulcano” vessel, with deliveries to Chantiers de l’Atlantique scheduled between 2021 and 2027.The contract is part of the FLOTLOG (Flotte logistique) program, which provides for the construction of four Logistic Support Ships

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78) began its north-bound transit to the Black Sea August 8, to enhance regional maritime stability and a show of support for our NATO allies and partners in the region.This is the sixth time a U.S. ship has visited the Black Sea since the beginning of 2019. USS Donald Cook Sails into Black Sea

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Donald Cook (DDG 75) began its north-bound transit of the Dardanelles Strait, en route to the Black Sea Feb. 19 to conduct maritime security operations and enhance regional maritime stability, combined readiness, and naval capability with our NATO allies and partners in the region.The ship last visited the Black Sea in January 2019, during which it visited Batumi, Georgia and conducted an exercise with two Georgian Coast Guard ships. During its time in port the ship's crew was warmly received by their Georgian hosts and were greeted on the pier with an arrival ceremony that included a traditional Georgian dance."Each visit here affords us the unique opportunity to work with our regional maritime partners," said Cmdr.

Fincantieri Celebrates Cruise Ship Trio

At Fincantieri's Monfalcone shipyard, Fincantieri and Princess Cruises celebrated three construction milestones of three “Royal” class ships.The festivities started with the traditional steel cutting for the sixth and last Royal-class ship, still unnamed, from the shipyard of Castellammare di Stabia (Naples). Grimaldi: 18 Engines Ordered for 9 Ships

MAN Energy Solutions has won the order to supply 18 × MAN B&W 9S50ME-C9.6 TIER II-compliant main engines for 9 × 7,800 lane-meter RoRo vessels intended for operation in the Mediterranean Sea. The customer is the Grimaldi Group, the Naples, Italy-based shipping company and leading operator within the RoRo segment. MAN Energy Solutions’ two-stroke licensee – Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (Engine & Machinery Business Unit) – will build the engines in Korea, while Jiangsu Jinling Shipyard Co. Ltd. will construct the vessels in Nanjing, China. Delivery of the first vessels is expected from 2020. MAN will also supply 1 × MAN TCA66 turbocharger for each engine.The new RoRos are the first examples of a new series of hybrid vessels
