TECO 2030 has launched what it claims to be the world’s most power dense marine and heavy-duty fuel cell module, the FCM400.The FCM400 has already an Approval in Principle from DNV and currently undergoes type approval process for maritime and heavy-duty applications. FCM400 is inherently gas-safe to accommodate easy integration onboard a ship for zero emission energy generation.TECO 2030 says the modular 400kW fuel cell system includes industry leading energy efficiency, inherent safety concept, leading dimensions and component design and rapid dynamic load response.

Kongsberg Maritime (KM) said it will supply an equipment and simulation package for the maritime training vessel MS Gann, helping both to reduce the vessel’s emissions and enhance the education offered on board. Despite high hopes for Arctic business from mining to shipping as the ice melts rapidly and temperatures rise twice as fast as the global average, few firms say the sums still make sense. An oil price slump and cheaper commodities, including iron ore, together with tensions between the West and Russia over Ukraine, are adding new disincentives. Examples of extra outlay abound. Ice-breaking tankers able to carry gas from Siberia cost $100 million, or 50 percent, more than normal vessels and hundreds of millions of dollars are needed to upgrade railways serving Arctic ports. Added to that, for many companies, winter darkness, ice and vast distances mean that Arctic investments are a non-starter.

Cavotec secured a significant order for its MoorMaster automated mooring technology at a new bulk handling application in Norway. The project has a substantial financial value & is the largest single MoorMaster order in Europe to date. MoorMaster is a vacuum-based automated mooring technology that eliminates the need for conventional mooring lines. Remote controlled vacuum pads recessed in, or mounted on the quayside or pontoons, moor and release vessels in seconds. A single person operates the system, via a hand-held radio remote control unit, either on shore or on board ship.

Two SB-138P polyethylene buoys with solar-powered ML-140 LED lanterns from Tideland Signal are being used to mark wrecks in the approaches to the port of Narvik in the far north of Norway. The new SB-138P buoys are replacing old battery-operated steel buoys from the 1980s that required extensive maintenance and costly battery changes. They are wreck-markers for the British 8770 ton iron- ore carrier Romanby and the Swedish 8,855-ton iron-ore carrier Stråssa, both sunk in Narvik inner harbor during a World War II battle on April 10, 1940.

Aker Solutions has acquired a fabrication facility in Sandnessjøen, Norway, to increase its fabrication capacity in the Norwegian Sea and further north. The purchase is part of Aker Solutions' northern Norway strategy. The facility, which is located at Helgelands Industrial Park in Sandnessjøen, Norway (Helgelands Næringspark), is being acquired from Ruukki Construction Norge AS. Historically, the core competence at the facility has been within fabrication of steel structures, including product deliveries to the oil industry. The transaction value is undisclosed. "As the oil and gas industry moves further north, it is important to build up our capacity in northern Norway.

Statoil has awarded Aker Solutions early phase studies for all their recent major discoveries on the Norwegian Continental Shelf; the Skrugard and Havis fields in the Barents Sea and the Johan Sverdrup discovery in the North Sea. Contract values are undisclosed. The past year has been unique, with Johan Sverdrup (formerly named Aldous/Avaldsnes) as the largest out of several new discoveries in mature areas in the North Sea, and the renewed optimism for exploration in the Barents Sea, with the Skrugard and Havis discoveries.

Aker Solutions has signed an agreement to acquire the well intervention technology business from X3M (pronounced "Extreme") International. The acquisition will grow Aker Solutions' well intervention technology and service portfolio worldwide as well as increase the company's presence in the important Middle East market. X3M is an international niche provider of down-hole intervention service tools and technology products. Its core products are innovative down-hole tools like plugs, packers, hangers, valves and a complete range of setting and recovery tools.

The Hong Kong-flag bulk carrier Maritime Talent remains at anchorage in Narvik, Norway following a labor union boycott, Reuters reported. The 47,574-dwt vessel arrived in Narvik last Thursday. However, following a boycott by the LKAB labor union, the vessel lost its loading turn and had to remain at anchorage, Reuters added. Reuters said that the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) had demanded an agreement be signed with the Norwegian Seamen's Union.
