Grand Bahama Shipyard Reports Commercial Success

Caribbean shipyard Grand Bahama Shipyard (GBS) said it has completed work on 30 commercial vessels within first half of 2017, predominantly comprised of companies returning to the yard with repeat business including tankers, bulk carriers, containerships, tugs, dive support vessels and drilling support vessels. Crowley Vessels Earn Safety Awards

Eighty-seven vessels owned or managed by Crowley Maritime Corporation recently received the Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA)’s annual Jones F. Devlin Awards in recognition of their 2016 safety records. Each year, the CSA grants Devlin Award certificates to manned merchant vessels that have operated for two or more years without incurring a Lost Time Injury (LTI), highlighting the skills and dedication of the crewmembers responsible for safe vessel operations. Crowley’s 2016 Devlin Award-worthy vessels together have achieved 670 years of service without an LTI.

Crowley Maritime awarded six U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) cadets with Thomas B. Crowley Memorial Scholarships during  the Containerization and Intermodal Institute’s Connie Awards luncheon in Newark, N.J. Crowley’s Jenny Terpenning, supervisor, marine recruiting, presented the scholarships to Midshipmen (MIDN) Stacee Glass, Connor Sexton, John Terselic, Tanner Evans, Dylan Rabbitt, and Chandler Chiappe, all of whom were chosen based on their academic performance, financial need and interest in pursuing a career at sea after graduation.

Crowley Scholarships for Four Maine Maritime Academy Students

Crowley Maritime Corp.’s Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships have helped to further educational opportunities for four students of Maine Maritime Academy (MMA). The four recipients, J.T. DiGuglielmo, Jordan Harmon, Sean O’Connor and Luke Olson, were chosen based on their excellent grades, demonstrated financial need and plans to pursue careers in the maritime industry. DiGuglielmo, from Milton, Del., is a junior in the marine transportation operations program, seeking a career as a maritime pilot. Crowley Awards Scholarships to Four Mass. Maritime Students

Four students from Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA) have been awarded Crowley Maritime Corp.’s Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships. Chosen based on their academic achievement, financial need and plans to pursue a career in the maritime industry, the four recipients are Patrick Goldsmith, Jack McMurrer, Paige Mentuck and Christina Murphy. Goldsmith, a junior from Huntington, N.Y., is majoring in marine engineering and minoring in international maritime business. He is a Dean’s List member and has earned his USCG 50 Ton Master license with a towing endorsement.

Crowley Vessels Receive AMVER Awards

Crowley Maritime Corp. announced that 65 of its vessels were recently recognized for participation in the Automated Mutual-Assistance Vessel Rescue (AMVER) program, a computer-based voluntary global ship reporting system used worldwide by search and rescue authorities to arrange for assistance to persons in distress at sea. The awards were given during the U.S. Coast Guard’s NAMEPA Safety at Sea Seminar dinner, an event designed to bring industry and government leaders together each year in Washington D.C. All 65 Crowley vessels were given a certificate of merit for participation, with eight company vessels receiving additional pennants for their continuous, long-term dedication to the program.

NSA, Rickmers-Linie Partner for Puerto Rico Service

National Shipping of America (NSA), which operates a fortnightly service between Houston, Port Everglades and Puerto Rico, has partnered with Rickmers-Linie (America) to provide more global connections to Puerto Rico shippers and greatly expand break bulk service opportunities to the island. Rickmers-Linie will also serve as general sales agent for National Shipping in North America. The NSA vessel service, called the Isla Verde Express, connects the U.S. Mainland with the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, offering the fastest transit times and using the most modern, greenest vessel in the trade.

During the tenth-annual Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA) awards ceremony held in Washington DC , Crowley Maritime Corporation was awarded with 100 Certificates of Environmental Achievement for 2013 – more than any other company in the running. The certificates were awarded to Crowley-owned and operated vessels for having worked at least two consecutive years without an environmental incident. Additionally, Crowley was also presented with a membership award in recognition of five years of support to the CSA.

New Houston-Puerto Ricon Direct Service

U.S.-flagged container ship ‘National Glory’  kicks off the new service when she departs Houston for San Juan May 29, 2013. The new 14-day service, which is being provided by National Shippers of America (NSA), is called "Isla Verde Express" and will provide customers with more transit options and supply chain flexibility in this "under-served" market, NSA officials say. Mississippi River have few options to move cargo to and from Puerto Rico without having to use an East Coast port," said Torey Presti, NSA president.
