FortisBC Starts Expansion of Tilbury LNG Facility
FortisBC – a subsidiary of Fortis Inc. has officially started construction of its $400 million Tilbury LNG Facility expansion project today. The company is adding 1.1 million gigajoules of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to storage and 34,000 gigajoules per day of liquefaction capacity. FortisBC marked the occasion with a ground-breaking ceremony attended by The Honourable Christy Clark, Premier of British Columbia; Delta Mayor Lois Jackson; as well as Scott Hamilton, MLA North Delta; and Vicki Huntington, MLA South Delta. FortisBC Energy Inc. operates the only two LNG facilities in Western Canada. The existing Tilbury LNG Facility opened in 1971 and has safely operated in Delta, B.C. for the last 43 years.
China Offshore Inert Gas Orders for Norway's WTS
Wilhelmsen Technical Solutions (WTS) say they have secured multiple orders to supply Maritime Protection Inert Gas Generator (IGG) systems for installation on vessels under construction for operations offshore China. The Maritime Protection systems will be installed on three FPSOs for oil major China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC). Two identical systems, comprising a deck house module with electric power, fuel and sea water supply/discharge, will be supplied for two FPSOs which will operate in the Bohai oil field in northern China.
El Paso Announces Development of a Shipboard LNG Regasification System
El Paso Global LNG, a subsidiary of El Paso Corporation announced the development of EP Energy Bridge(TM), a new ship-based liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification system. Using proven offshore buoy technology to moor the ship and proprietary technology to regasify LNG onboard the ship and discharge it through a subsea pipeline, EP Energy Bridge(TM) enables flexible, environmentally safe, and cost-effective delivery of natural gas directly to coastal regions eliminating the need of a conventional land-based terminal. Woodside Natural Gas Announces MarAd Agreement
Woodside Natural Gas announced a commitment to U.S. staffing and flagging of its regasification ships for the proposed OceanWay natural gas project. This action was officially conveyed by Steve Larson, President of Woodside Natural Gas, to Sean Connaughton, Administrator of the U.S. Maritime Administration. OceanWay, a proposed project to provide an alternative source of much-needed natural gas to California, will be one of the cleanest, safest and most secure natural gas delivery systems in the world. OceanWay will use a ship and buoy system to deliver gas to California, unloading at two buoys more than 28 miles offshore, southwest of the Los Angeles Hyperion sewage treatment plant, and connecting into the existing gas network via undersea pipelines.
