Turkey Approves EIA Report for South Stream’s Offshore Section
The Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning of Turkey approved the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report and issued a positive opinion of the EIA results for South Stream's offshore section in Turkey. The Report contains the assessment of potential environmental impacts caused by the gas pipeline construction, including the impact on the seabed geology, water quality and marine ecology. The document concludes that the project will have no considerable effect on the Black Sea environment or the regional fishing industry. In addition, the Report proposes a number of measures aimed at eliminating or mitigating any environmental impacts of the project. For example, the gas pipeline bypasses certain locations of shipwrecks.
Centrgaz to Construct South Stream in Serbia
Today in Belgrad (Serbia) South Stream d.o.o. entered into a contract with Centrgaz, which won the bidding for the South Stream gas pipeline construction in the Republic of Serbia. Centrgaz, part of Gazprom Group, will focus on design, procurement, construction and installation activities, personnel training and commissioning of South Stream in Serbia. The contract stipulates involving Serbian subcontractors in carrying out certain operations. South Stream Gas Pipeline Re-route via Turkey Possible
Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said on Wednesday that Ankara would consider the passage of the South Stream natural gas pipeline through Turkey if Russia made such a request. The future of the 2400 km (1,490 mile) line from Russia via the Black Sea to Europe, avoiding Ukraine, has been cast into doubt after Russia's annexation of Crimea. Background South Stream is Gazprom's global infrastructure project aimed at constructing a gas pipeline with a capacity of 63 billion cubic meters across the Black Sea to Southern and Central Europe for the purpose of diversifying the natural gas export routes and eliminating transit risks. First Line of Baltic Sea Pipe to be Laid by Saipem
Contracts worth around EUR 2-billion for construction of the first of the four offshore lines of the trans-Baltic South Stream gas pipeline have now been signed by South Stream Transport and Saipem, inform Gazprom. Saipem is to build the first offshore line of the South Stream gas pipeline as well as erect process facilities in the shore crossing areas, and construct the landfalls. Pipes will be welded together on board a special pipe-laying vessel and then laid in position on the seabed at a depth of up to 2,200 meters.
Long-Distance Black Sea Gas Pipeline: Project Update
Gazprom board members at the South Stream Transport B.V. joint company in Amsterdam noted significant progress in the project. Approval was given for the signing of pipe supply contracts for the first of 4 lines of the 931-kilometer offshore gas pipeline & a mandate to complete the negotiations on the pipe laying work was given. The South Stream gas pipeline project aims to contruct a gas pipeline with a capacity of 63 billion cubic meters across the Black Sea to Southern and Central Europe for the purpose of diversifying the natural gas export routes and eliminating transit risks.
