Verotec’s VMEbus Sails Through Shock Test

Verotec has supplied suites of five different VMEbus-based systems to a global US-based naval and marine systems integrator. The systems will be used in military shipboard applications, so meeting exacting shock and vibration requirements was a critical requirement. Each system consist of a VMEbus backplane and two military grade power converters mounted in custom plug-in modules in special subracks based on Verotec’s KM6-HD family. Extensive Finite Element Analysis (FIA) confirmed that the systems would withstand an onerous 25g shock test and also vibration to MIL-STD-167.

Northrop Grumman Corporation to supply advanced shipboard navigation systems for 20 fast patrol vessels for the Indian Coast Guard. Under the contract, awarded through the company's Indian reseller Marine Electricals Ltd., Northrop Grumman's Sperry Marine business unit will provide a navigation package including VisionMaster™ Total Watch™ multifunction displays, electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS), autopilot, magnetic compass and the new NAVIGAT 3000™ fibre optic gyrocompass.

Vintage Gyrocompass Donated by Northrop Grumman

Northrop Grumman donate a Sperry Mk 14 gyrocompass & leather-bound operator's manual to HMCS Sackville Canadian Naval Memorial Trust. The vinatage gyro compass is for installation aboard the restored HMCS Sackville, a World War II-era corvette on the Halifax waterfront. The donation was presented at the Canadian Defence Security and Aerospace Exhibition Atlantic (DEFSEC) 2012, held annually in Halifax. The Sackville was moored alongside the Cunard Center, the home of DEFSEC, throughout the exhibition.

Bridge Navigation Systems Contract for Northrop Grumman

Northrop Grumman contracted by Chengxi Shipyard to supply navigation bridge equipment for a series of new 39,500-dwt dry bulk cargo ships. The contract is for the supply of navigation bridge equipment for a series of 39,500-dwt dry bulk cargo ships being built in China for the China Navigation Company Pte. Ltd., Singapore, the deep-sea shipping company of the Swire Group. Under the contract with Chengxi Shipyard Co., Ltd., Northrop Grumman's Sperry Marine business unit will deliver four shipsets to the company's shipyard in Jiangyin, China, for installation. Each shipset will include a complete integrated bridge system (IBS) with navigation sensors, a VisionMaster™ Total Watch™ radar and electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS).

Northrop Demonstrate 'Silent Watch' System

A team of Northrop Grumman Corporation engineers recently successfully demonstrated the capability of the company's Silent Watch Electro-Optical Infrared (EO/IR) Distributed Aperture System (DAS) to enable a surface vessel to sense and track threats. The maritime applications of the EO/DAS involved the strategic placement of multiple EO/IR sensors onboard the Sperry Star III research vessel, a Northrop Grumman Naval and Marine Systems surface ship test platform. The test demonstration proved that, when employed at sea, high resolution, near-real-time images generated by Silent Watch can be displayed and relayed to friendly forces. The Silent Watch EO/DAS was originally designed and developed by Northrop Grumman to provide 360-degree situational awareness for F-35 pilots.

Northrop Grumman Earns Suez Canal Contract

Northrop Grumman to Supply Marine Navigation Equipment for Suez Canal Authority. Northrop Grumman Corporation's Sperry Marine business unit has won orders to supply navigation equipment to the Suez Canal Authority for tugboats and other assorted workboats. The orders include radar upgrades for 10 boats, and complete integrated bridge systems (IBS) for four new builds. The IBS is based on Northrop Grumman's VisionMaster FT navigation technology with TotalWatch multifunction workstations, which include electronic chart display and information systems (ECDIS), radars, conning displays and interfaces with positioning, heading, speed and depth sensors. The orders were won through Radio Holland Egypt (RHE), Northrop Grumman's sales and service representative in Egypt.

Northrop Grumman Maintenance Contract, Peter Döhle Ships

Northrop Grumman Corporation’s (NYSE: NOC) Sperry Marine business unit has been awarded a one-year contract by Peter Döhle Schiffahrts-KG (PDS-KG) and HAMMONIA Reederei (a joint venture between PDS-KG, HCI Capital AG and GE Transportation Finance, Inc.) to provide worldwide service and maintenance for more than 135 ships. Under the contract, Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine will be responsible for all shipboard service, support and maintenance of the ships’ navigation and communication equipment, including repairs, spares management and required annual inspections and certifications.

Northrop Grumman Awarded Contract for UK Aircraft Carriers

LONDON, March 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE: NOC) Sperry Marine business unit has signed a full production contract for the Integrated Navigation Bridge System (INBS) for the U.K. Ministry of Defence's (MoD) Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) Aircraft Carrier Programme. The company also signed a design phase contract for the Navigation Lights, Shapes and Sounds (NLSS). Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine will build and deliver the complete INBS, including electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS-N (U.K.)) for the new aircraft carriers. The system will include navigation planning, electronic charts and radar displays, as well as a comprehensive set of sensors and software.

Northrop Grumman Supplies IBS for Norway Ferries

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has supplied the integrated bridge systems (IBS) for two new high-speed passenger ferries for the Norwegian ferry operator Fjord1 Fylkesbaatane. Each of the vessels has been fitted with a complete suite of Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine VisionMaster FT navigation electronics including radars, electronic chart display and information system, autopilot, gyrocompass, DGPS, gyrocompass, speed log and other sensors. The system components are connected via an Ethernet network to provide a fully integrated picture for the bridge watchstanders on multi-function workstations. The suites were installed by the company Sigurd Solberg AS Florø, Norway.

Northrop Grumman Upgrades Swedish Subs

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has won a contract to upgrade the inertial navigation systems (INS) for the Swedish navy’s submarines. Under the contract, awarded by Kockums AB, Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine unit will supply five MK 39 Mod 3C ring laser gyro systems for installation on two Gotland-class and two Södermanland-class submarines, with one set to be used for spares and training. The MK 39 Mod 3C systems will replace the existing spinning mass gyrocompasses currently fitted on the submarines. CA Clase AB, Sperry Marine’s sales and service representative in Sweden, was instrumental in securing the order. Kockums AB will perform the installations, which will be completed by 2011.

NG Awarded U.S. Navy Radar Contract

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has received a full-rate production contract from the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command for its AN/SPQ-9B shipboard radar systems, which will enhance detection and tracking of high-speed threats such as sea-skimming anti-ship missiles. Under the fixed-price $26.2m contract, Northrop Grumman’s Naval and Marine Systems Division facility in Melville, N.Y., will supply four shipsets. The contract includes options that could bring the total value to $281.5m. The options encompass a wide range of U.S. aircraft carriers, cruisers and amphibious assault ships, as well as the U.S. Coast Guard National Security Cutter.

Sperry Marine Radars for Australian Ferry Fleet

Northrop Grumman Corporation’s (NYSE: NOC) Sperry Marine business unit has been chosen to supply radars for the Sydney Harbour Ferries fleet. Sydney Harbour Ferries will fit the Sperry Marine new-generation VisionMaster FT chart radars on all 28 vessels in the fleet. Electrotech Australia Pty Ltd, Sperry Marine’s licensed sales and service representative in Australia, will install and commission the radars and will provide technical support through its Sydney office. “The VisionMaster FT chart radars enhance situational awareness for watch officers by providing an overlay of radar images on a detailed electronic chart display,” said J. Demonstration, Littoral Warfighting Capabilities

(NYSE:NOC)-led team has successfully demonstrated the integration of the AN/SPQ-9B radar and Naval Expeditionary Overwatch (NEO) system sensor data into the Integrated Combat Management System (ICMS) at the Navy's Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS) at Dam Neck, Va. The team included Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Dahlgren and Harris Corporation. NEO is sponsored by the Office of Naval Research (ONR).
