BMT, Lester Franks Partner for BWTS Retrofit Engineering
BMT Design & Technology (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, has announced a collaboration with Lester Franks, to provide a new service which will support ship owners in their response to the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) ballast water management regulations which come into effect next year. Curvelle Super Yacht Quaranta Launched
Incat Crowther nnounced the launch of new super yacht, Quaranta. Developed by Curvelle and built in Turkey, Quaranta demonstrates many of the advantages of a catamaran platform as applied to a super yacht. As the vessel’s name suggests, the vessel offers comparable interior space to a 40 meter monohull yacht, but with lower power requirement, reducing capital and operating costs. To deliver the project, Curvelle founder Luuk van Zanten assembled a team of experts, including builder Logos Marine and Lila–Lou of London, who designed the vessel’s striking interior and exterior.

Incident response and environmental clean-up specialist Braemar Howells and its sister company Braemar (Incorporating The Salvage Association) are to work together to provide a 24-hour global response capability to the world’s shipping and marine insurance sectors. In what is being seen as a key development in the expansion of Braemar’s Technical Services (BTS) division, both companies have formed Braemar Marine Salvage Support Services which will provide on-site distressed cargo management and salvage support services to salvors, owners and insurers, together with additional expert technical advisory services from within BTS ranging from resolving LNG operational problems to offshore engineering solutions.
CAD/CAM
Autoship Systems Corporation (ASC) has developed a complete CAD/CAM suite to meet the CAD/CAM needs in marine vessel design and construction, including two key programs in the CAD/CAM suite: Autostructure 3.0 and Production Manager 3.0. Autostructure and Production Manager are key components in the Autoship CAD/CAM suite, offering shipyards complete solutions in structural design, pre-construction drawing preparation and part nesting. Autostructure is used to create a 3D model of a vessel structure and to output the parts of that model in CAD format. The CAD representation can be used either to prepare construction drawings or for input to NC cutting processors.
Bollinger Christens 8,000-hp Towboat, Bootsie B
Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, La., with the Riverway Co., Eden Prairie, Minn., christened the M/V Bootsie B., a 188-ft. (57.3 m), 8,000 hp towboat. Bootsie B. is the first such vessel for the Riverway Co., in 25 years. It was christened by Ms. Mary Sutton Becker, granddaughter of Mrs. Mary Sutton "Bootsie" Baskerville, whose family established Riverway's predecessor company, the Upper Mississippi Towing Corp. in 1937. "This is our first new construction project for Riverway," said Walter Berry, executive vice president and COO of Bollinger said. Bollinger Northshore Engineering designed the vessel, and Corning Townsend, with C.T. Marine, provided naval architectural services for proper water flow through the kort nozzle and across the rudders.
