Rose Point Navigation Systems is shipping the latest release of it's immensely popular commercial navigation product. Rose Point ECS 4 brings to the commercial customer new Voyage Planning tools to streamline Subchapter M Navigation Assessment workflow, automatically creating river routes showing locks and bridges, as well as updating AIS voyage information including encoded destinations and tow size.Rose Point ECS 4 with Services helps administrators and captains meet the requirement for paperless navigation outlined in the Coast Guard NVIC 01-16 for most inland vessels.

Newport International Boat Show Annouces NFNP Winners

iXBlue Gyrocompass Chosen for the French Navy

Newport International Boat Show Award Winners

Newport Exhibition Group, owners and producers of the Newport International Boat Show, announced today the results of this year’s Newport For New ProductsTM (NFNP) Awards. A highlight of the industry, NFNP entries were open to domestic and foreign products launched in the U.S. after April 1, 2014 that made their boat show debut at Newport. Transas Adds Piracy Information Overlay

Transas Marine has added a Piracy Information Overlay (PIO) to its Navigation product portfolio. The piracy overlay is integrated into the Transas FleetView Online SSAS-tracking software and Navi-Planner 4000 voyage planning software. The piracy data is provided by Bergen Risk Solutions and is based on intelligence from several recognized and authoritative sources on sea piracy. The service allows users to overlay piracy information onto existing data and provides them with up to date information, essential for planning avoidance measures when transiting a potential piracy area.

Weather Data Integrated for Transas FleetView Online

Transas Marine announced that it has integrated MeteoGroup weather data in its FleetView Online SSAS-tracking software. With this integration Transas will have one global weather data supplier across the company’s navigation product range. Utilization of weather service from the MeteoGroup in the FleetView Online (FVO) is a key advantage to Transas customers, the company said. FleetView Online weather interface provides current and five-day forecasted weather data over the entire chart folio, displaying sea conditions such as wind, waves and swell, current and other weather elements.

Transas Marine Launches Pay-As-You-Sail Solution

Transas Marine has launched its ‘Pay-As-You-Sail’chart solution for (S)ENC. Transas received approval for the ‘Pa-As-You-Sail’ service by PRIMAR and IC-ENC after succesful sea trials and verification by Det Norske Veritas (DNV). Traditionally, the navigator has to select and purchase charts prior to each voyage, using what is commonly called a  pre-licensing method. With Transas PAYS solution, the vessel will have a license and access to install, view and pre-plan using official (S)ENC’s, where the necessary PAYS permissions have been obtained without additional cost. With the new solution, recording and reporting of charts used is done with extraction from the TransasNavi-Sailor4000 ECDIS logbook. Vessels only pay for charts actually used for navigation monitoring.

Newly Launched Transas Wave Saves Fuel

ECDIS manufacturer Transas Marine has launched its fuel efficiency monitoring system, Transas Wave. Designed for commercial shipping, Transas Wave provides al solution for saving fuel and reducing environmental impact. It is designed to give the officer an easy tool for monitoring and recording of the ship’s fuel consumption. Wave is a standalone application, which fits on every ship. Integration with ECDIS for route optimization will be available later this year, together with the ECO module, which is designed to comply with new MARPOL requirements allowing recording and monitoring of vessels emission. Wave connects to navigation sensors, flow meter, engine data and emission sensors to collect information, which is then used to optimize the operation of a vessel.

European Funding Enhance INS NACOS

Research and development undertaken as part of FLAGSHIP, a part EU-funded maritime transport project, is being incorporated in to the newest version of SAM Electronics’ enhanced navigation product, the NACOS Platinum series. The success of NACOS is based on the unique concept to functionally integrate radar operation, ECDIS and also automation - a key achievement supported by the FLAGSHIP programme. This integration provides enhanced support to the Officer on watch, whose main tasks are navigation, collision avoidance and control of the vessel´s safe track.

Transas Launches Enhanced Navi-Sailor

In mid-July, Transas commercially launched the latest version of its new-generation marine navigation and information system, Navi-Sailor 3000. The Navi-Sailor 3000 ver.2 has been designed in line with the latest IMO regulations for UAIS interface. As such, Navi-Sailor 3000 has been provided with the capability to send, receive and display UAIS transponder information exactly as it is prescribed by international requirements. Compliance is achieved in the UAIS message format, content and interface of the send/receive facility, while full static, voyage and ship movement data are displayed on the electronic chart screen in strict accordance with the international standards.

Smooth Sailing

The entire suite of 1,000 official NOAA nautical charts has been available in digital raster form since 1995. These high quality, full color, geo-referenced images of NOAA's paper charts are made for use in computer-based navigation systems and work with GPS or other electronic positioning systems. They are produced jointly by NOAA and Maptech, Inc. under a cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA). Mariners quickly adopted raster nautical charts. Their rapid adoption was aided by first-rate navigation software available from many companies at an affordable price. Today, the raster charts outsell NOAA's paper charts by eight to five.
