New Navy Contracts
The Boeing Co., Anaheim, Calif., is being awarded a $33,888,986 cost plus incentive fee, cost plus fixed fee contract to provide the following efforts for the TRIDENT II (D5) Navigation Subsystem: (1) engineering support services, and problem investigations for US and UK owned Electro-statically Supported Gyro Navigator (ESGN) navigation inertial equipment, (2) modification, refurbishment, and repair of U.S., and UK ESGN instruments and components, (3) TRIDENT II (D5) shipyard overhaul field engineering, (4) US Fleet Documentation, Surveillance Program, and Training, and (5) US/UK Stable Platform Housing Refurbishment. Work will be p erformed in Anaheim, Calif., (90 percent) and Heath, Ohio, (10 percent), and work is expected to be completed Jun. 2012.
AIS: Operator Feedback Analyzed
Seaways, the international journal of The Nautical Institute, reports this month that although most mariners seem generally satisfied with the operation of the new Automatic Identification System (AIS), current users have reported certain anomalies. The Institute’s Papers and Technical committee has now identified some key causes and recommendations. A common fault was that ships are transmitting inaccurate information such as incorrect heading (which may be due to poorly defined offset data) or inaccurate data pertaining to static, dynamic or voyage information (i.e. being underway whilst AIS signal is indicating being stationary).

Lockheed Martin Awarded Navy Contract
Lockheed Martin Corporation, Mitchel Field, N.Y., is being awarded the options contained in contract N00030-06-C-0005 in the amount of $38,517,085 for FY07 US/UK TRIDENT II (D5) navigation subsystem engineering support services. Specific efforts include U.S. and U.K. fleet support, SSBN 732 engineering refueling overhaul, U.S. and U.K. trainer systems support, Shipboard Integration Program, and navigation - fire control integration. The work will be performed in Mitchel Field, New York. The FY07 optional items increase the contract value to $83,289,790 and extend performance through 30 September 2009. This contract was awarded based on a sole source acquisition. The Navy's Strategic Systems Programs is the contracting activity (N00030-06-C-0005).
Lockheed Martin Awarded Contract
$42.9M completion contract to provide the fiscal 2006 U.S. and U.K. TRIDENT II (D5) Navigation Subsystem Engineering Support Services requirements. Specific efforts include U.S. and U.K. fleet support, Strategic Weapon System Shipboard Integration support, D5 Backfit Shipyard Installation, U.S. and U.K. Trainer Systems Support, Engineering Refueling Overhaul Planning and Shipyard Start-up Support, and Navigation Sonar System New Technology. Work will be performed in Mitchel Field, N.Y., and is expected to be completed September 2008. Contract funds in the amount of $27.2M will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The contract was not competitively procured. The Navy's Strategic Systems Programs, Arlington, Va., is the contracting activity.
