New Cruise Ship Sea Trials Navis NavDP 4000 System

Finland headquartered Navis Engineering says that recently completed sea trials by the 99,430 gross tons cruise ship Mein Schiff 3 have confirmed the high performance of its  dynamic positioning (DP) control system, Navis Nav DP4000. Designed and constructed for TUI Cruises by STX Shipyard in Turku, Finland and delivered in May this year, the 294m long and 36m wide Mein Schiff 3 is to operate in the German premium class cruise market. The vessel incorporates a number of eco-friendly features, with particular emphasis on energy efficiency, and Navis says that the Mein Schiff 3 consumes around 30% less energy compared with cruise ships of similar sizes. The Mein Schiff 3 DP control system was designed in close cooperation with TUI Cruises.

New Finland Icebreaker Fitted with Navis Equipment

Navis Engineering says it has delivered its NavDP4000 system and Autopilot AP4000 for the new icebreaker 'Baltika'. Navis explains that its dynamic positioning control systems have met performance expectations in the sea trials of the multifunctional icebreaking rescue and emergency vessel Baltika.The state-of-the-art icebreaker, commissioned in early April 2014, is fitted with the Nav DP4000 (DP System) and the Navis AP4000 Heading control system (autopilot). Designed by Finnish company Aker Arctic, Baltika was built by the Arctech shipyard in Helsinki and its construction has involved a profound rethinking of icebreaking capability.

Aker Arctic & Navis Engineering Agree DP Collaboration

Aker Arctic Technology Inc and Navis Engineering Oy have signed an agreement on joint development of Dynamic Positioning systems for ice operation. The companies plan to jointly develop next-generation DP-system technology tailored for ice operation by utilizing their core know how and technologies. The development includes improved control algorithms, testing of the systems and utilising new more intelligent technology to overcome the ice challenges. The development work will take place in close co-operation with Aker Arctic Technology in Helsinki and Navis Engineering R&D Centre in St. Petersburg. The joint project aims to provide more energy efficient and capable and safe DP-systems especifically developed for ice operation.

Navis Joins Aker Arctic for Ice Class DP Design

Navis Engineering Oy and Aker Arctic Technology Inc. have signed a scientific and technical cooperation agreement covering the joint development of technology for dynamic positioning (DP) systems for icebreakers and ice-class vessels. The agreement was signed in St. Petersburg during NEVA 2013 at the end of September. Dynamic positioning systems manufactured by Navis Engineering have been installed on a number of icebreakers and ice-class vessels in recent years, including the Polar supply and research icebreaker SA Agulhas II, the Canadian Coast Guard Scientific icebreaker Amundsen and the Sovcomflot-owned multifunctional icebreaking supply vessels Vitus Bering and Aleksey Chirikov, operating for Exxon Neftegaz Ltd in Sakhalin waters in Russia.

Navis Wins DNV Autopilot Approvals

DNV MED-B certification opens yacht market for Navis AP4000 autopilot. Helsinki-based Navis Engineering Oy has passed an important milestone in the yacht sector, after receiving MED-B type approval for its latest generation type AP4000 autopilot from classification society Det Norske Veritas (DNV). Issued for a five-year period, the MED-B certificate provides assurance that the product complies with all the relevant international standards imposed on marine equipment of this type. The approval covers equipment delivery to newbuildings or existing vessels for retrofit.
