Vigor Delivers Los Angeles' New Pilot Boats

The Los Angeles Pilot Service has taken delivery of two customized 56-foot Camarc Design pilot boats built by Vigor Industrial at its Vancouver, Wash. facility, located on the northern side of the Columbia River. Hy-Line Cruises, a division of Hyannis Harbor Tours, Inc., Hyannis, Mass., has taken delivery of Grey Lady IV, a new 493-passenger, high-speed catamaran from Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, the Duclos Corporation. Furuno Debuts Remote Controller and Software

When Furuno added its Black Box system to their NavNet TZtouch family, it provided flexibility for captains that wanted a TZtouch system on larger displays. Shortly after that, Furuno introduced its new line of Multi-touch Marine Monitors that ranged in size from 17-24 inches. Customers then came back to Furuno requesting the added flexibility of viewing and controlling their TZtouch displays from a remote position. While Furuno offers its free “NavNet Remote” app for the iPad, some customers feel there is no substitute for buttons and tactile control.

Kvichak Nets Five-Year Coast Guard Contract

Transportable Port Security Boat (TPSB)

Kvichak Marine Industries, Inc., of Seattle, WA, was awarded a five year contract by the U.S. Coast Guard for the construction of up to 80 each Transportable Port Security Boats (TPSB) in 2011. Kvichak recently delivered the 30th hull of this contract to the USCG. The all-aluminum vessels are operated by a crew of 4 and include shock mitigating seats to minimize crew fatigue on extended missions. Ballistic Armor Protection and up to 4 mounted weapons provide increased mission capability and crew safety during tactical operations.

Furuno Named NMEA "Manufacturer of the Year"

Furuno has once again received the lion’s share of awards at the prestigious 2011 National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) Convention in Sanibel, FL. This brings Furuno’s NMEA Award total to an incredible 201 awards since NMEA started presenting awards in 1971. A total of ten NMEA Awards were presented this year and Furuno received half of the awards issued. For the sixth consecutive year, Furuno received the coveted Manufacturer of the Year - Support award. Kvichak Gets Coast Guard TPSB Contract

Kvichak Marine Industries, Inc., of Seattle, Wash., was recently awarded a five year contract by the U.S. Coast Guard for the construction of up to 80 each Transportable Port Security Boats (TPSB). The 32.8-ft vessels will be replacing the USCG’s current aging fleet of smaller, outboard powered fiberglass boats.

Jeppesen, Furuno Partner on Navigation

Jeppesen, a subsidiary of The Boeing Company, has teamed with Furuno and MapMedia to develop NavNet 3D-compatible C-MAP by Jeppesen vector charts. This will allow boaters to use advanced features and functionality of the NavNet 3D system while navigating with C-MAP by Jeppesen chart data. North American boaters will now be able to utilize C-MAP by Jeppesen charts processed into MapMedia mm3d format to work in their NavNet 3D systems. Furuno Manufacturer of the Year

Furuno, manufacturer of marine electronics, was honored with five awards at the 2009 National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) Convention in Sanibel, Fla. This year’s event, held Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, celebrated the 38th anniversary of the NMEA awards. This year, 10 NMEA Awards were presented and half were received by Furuno. For the fourth straight year, Furuno received the award for Manufacturer of the Year - Support. Furuno has secured this award every year the category has been included on the ballot. Furuno took top honors in the Best Radar Category for the thirty-fourth consecutive year with the NavNet 3D DRS Ultra Hi-Definition Radar Series. The NavNet 3D DRS Radars come in a variety of sizes, from the 2.2 kW, 19-inch Radome to the 25 kW, 6 ft. Open Array.
