VOS BWTS to Be Tested on APL Containership

Shipboard testing to be conducted on the vessel APL England as NEI takes the next step towards full USCG Type Approval for its Venturi Oxygen Stripping (VOS) Ballast Water Treatment System. NEI Treatment Systems announced that the container vessel APL England will be used for the shipboard testing phase of their VOS Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS), to begin in the early summer of 2015. The APL England is a 67.9K DWT container vessel, trading between China and multiple ports on the U.S. West Coast. The vessel utilizes a VOS system operating at 1,250 m3/hr., and was installed seven years ago. The retrofit project was completed as an in-service “riding” installation.

N.E.I. Receives Fifth BWTS Type Approval Certificate

N.E.I. Treatment Systems receives its fifth BWTS type approval certificate from the netherlands, issued with a treatment rated capacity of 6,500 cubic meters per hour. N.E.I. Treatment Systems announced today that the Netherlands has issued a Type Approval Certificate for the Company’s Venturi Oxygen Stripping™ (VOS) Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS) with a Treatment Rated Capacity (TRC) of 6,500 cubic meters per hour (m3/hr). The Netherlands is N.E.I.’s fifth Type Approval Certificate, adding to Certificates previously received from Panama, Malta, Marshall Islands, and Liberia. The Netherlands Type Approval was issued in July 2011 following the successful shipboard installation and commissioning of high-capacity VOS BWT systems aboard large Bulk Carriers and Tanker vessels.

N.E.I. Wins BWT Orders From Bohai Shipbuilding

N.E.I. Treatment Systems received its first order from Bohai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry for two Venturi Oxygen Stripping (VOS) Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWTS) to be installed aboard two 320,000 DWT VLCCs being built for Sovcomflot. Bohai is a subsidiary of the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), one of the largest shipbuilders in China, and Sovcomflot is the largest commercial shipping group in Russia. The two 6,300 m3/hr VOS Systems for the Bohai/Sovcomflot VLCCs will be delivered in the first and second quarters of 2012, representing the largest BWTS ordered to date by Bohai. N.E.I. Treatment Systems, a global leader in providing Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWTS) to the commercial shipping industry, announced today the achievement of a major milestone – the successful commissioning during sea trial of the world’s highest capacity BWTS installed and operating anywhere in the world. In July 2011, a 6,350 cubic meter per hour Venturi Oxygen StrippingTM (VOSTM) BWTS was successfully commissioned during sea trial of a VLCC built by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) of South Korea for Samco Shipholding Pte. Ltd. of Singapore.

Discussion at INTERTANKO's Council and Executive Committee meetings in London last week emphasized the depth work by the association and its members since the last Council meeting in April. This has reached from lobbying to both industry and politicians, to discussions and negotiations at IMO; from work in the EU and US to Asia; from environmental issues to industry relationships and chemical issues; and also an increasing range of member services. INTERTANKO has actively engaged in matters arising from the Prestige accident - specifically the accelerated phase-out of single-hull tankers, restriction on the carriage of heavy oils to double-hull tankers, expansion of the Condition Assessment Scheme (CAS).

NEI Treatment Systems Receives Ballast Water Management Certification

After many months of review and many years of testing, NEI Treatment Systems’ Venturi Oxygen StrippingTM (VOS) ballast water treatment system has been issued a Type Approval Certificate of Ballast Water Management System. The Certification was issued by the Liberian Register, with technical review by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). Land-based biological testing was conducted by the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory (CBL) of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science. U.S. Federal Government Laboratory. The testing was funded by the U.S. Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as part of the U.S. Program.
