Massachusetts Maritime Academy Launches Third Master's Degree
MMA Launches Third Graduate Degree, M.S. Maritime Business Management. The Massachusetts Maritime Academy has announced the launch of their third Graduate Degree, the Master of Science in Maritime Business Management. MMA developed the MSMB over a four-year period as a campus-wide collaborative effort with the Academic Dean, the Dean of Graduate & Continuing Education, the undergraduate International Maritime Business Department faculty and input gathered from employers, prospective students, the Graduate Education Council, and MMA graduate and undergraduate alumni. The MSMB program is certified by the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
First Woman in Command of U.S. Military Academy
A woman took command of a U.S. military service academy for the first time in history when Rear Adm. Sandra Stosz took over as the superintendant of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., Friday, June 3. “We are extremely proud to be the first service with a woman at the helm of our academy,” said U.S. Coast Guard commandant, Adm. Robert J. Papp. Stosz takes over as the school continues to see an increase in minority admissions, growing from 12 percent in 2008 to 24 percent in 2010.
USCG: First Woman Superintendent of Military Service Academy
The Coast Guard will have the first woman superintendent of a military service academy at the helm of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy when classes convene next summer. The commandant of the Coast Guard, Adm. Bob Papp, has selected Rear Adm. Sandra L. Stosz, Coast Guard director of reserve and leadership, for the superintendent position. “Rear Adm. Stosz has dedicated her career to developing professional Coast Guard men and women,” said U.S. Coast Guard commandant, Adm. Robert J. Papp. “We are also extremely proud to be the first service with a woman at the helm of our academy. In her current position, Stosz is responsible for policy affecting the recruitment and training of more than 8,000 Coast Guard reserve members.
Maine Maritime to Hold Celebration of Achievement
CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy will honor its best and brightest at a ceremony to be held on the college campus in early November. The college will formally recognize alumni success and achievement, student academic success, and faculty achievement at its annual Celebration of Achievement on Thursday, Nov. In total, 16 individuals associated with the college will be recognized for their outstanding accomplishments. teaching and academic commitment, student curiosity and scholarship, and alumni professional and civic success. Initiated in 1997, the college’s Wall of Honor was created to recognize alumni, who, through achievements in professional and civic life, have brought honor to themselves and to Maine Maritime Academy.
MMA Seeks Input for NEASC Study
Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) will undergo a comprehensive evaluation visit this fall by a team representing the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). NEASC last accredited MMA for a 10-year period in 1996, and the college is a candidate for reaccreditation this fall. As part of the comprehensive self-study leading up to the team visit, the public is invited to submit comments regarding the institution. Comments may be provided to the institution via the college’s Vice President for Academic Affairs and Academic Dean, Dr. John Barlow, or directly to the Commission. Self-study relies on the participation of many different groups, including the neighboring community.
