Middle East's maritime and logistics company Milaha (Qatar Navigation) will start a direct container shipping service connecting the Black Sea and the Mediterranean in its first foray into Europe.According to a press release from the Qatar-based maritime transport and logistics conglomerate the new feeder service marks Milaha’s first European service linking the Mediterranean and Black Sea. Oman Shipping Company (OSC) is launching a new freight service linking all Omani ports to the United Arab Emirates by mid-April, 2016, in a move that aims to boost trade links. OSC’s new fortnightly Oman Express Service will be the first freight feeder operator to connect all Omani ports. It will be run by OSC subsidiary Oman Container Lines (OCL). OSC chief executive Tarik Mohamed Al Junaidi said the new service will be cheaper and faster than the road transport which currently handles all freight to the interiors.

MOL Liner Ltd. (MOL) announced an enhancement of its Intra-Asia service network with new rotation of “HS3” and new Japan-Strait service “HS4,” offering competitive service despite potential schedule disruption as a result of recent port congestion in the region. MOL will introduce Singapore-Jakarta feeder service (AJS is operated by MOL) to stabilize the service schedule of “HS3”. This will help maintain competitive transit times from Japan to Jakarta by transshipment to this dedicated feeder service and reduce the risk of accumulated delays at ports. Furthermore, the new “HS3” will add a direct call at Shekou on the northbound rotation to cover service needs from/to the port of Shekou. MOL will offer a new service “HS4” to link Japan-Taiwan-Hong Kong-Jakarta.

The members of the G6 Alliance have decided to modify their network between the Far East and the Black Sea effective from week 36. The last sailing for the ABX service will be “MOL Performance” (ETA Ningbo on August 30). All port coverage will be maintained by a new dedicated feeder service with a connection via Port Said that will be added to the Loop 4 of the G6 Alliance. The G6 Alliance’s Mediterranean service, EUM, will also provide a connection to the newly deployed Black Sea feeder through the existing Port Said call. The rotation of the feeder service will be: Port Said – Ashdod – Istanbul – Constanza – Odessa – Istanbul – Ashdod – Port Said. The weekly service will provide a seamless coverage of the Black Sea with two vessels of approximately 3,000 TEU.

The Swedish paper and timber products manufacturer Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA) and its transport and logistics unit SCA Transforest have been operating a regular scheduled liner service called Container Express since March 1 2010, linking northern Sweden and the Port of Hamburg. The vessel Flintercape, with a carrying capacity of 809 TEU, sails from the ports of Sundsvall and Holmsund (Umeå) in northern Sweden to Hamburg every 10 days. The 1Aclass ice-strengthened FLINTERCAPE is 465 ft long and 71 ft wide. The vessel had not been in service since it was delivered to the Dutch Flinter Group. With a deadweight tonnage of 9,500 tons, the Flintercape has a draught of 24.5 ft. The maximum service speed is more than 18 knots.
