The Coast Guard Foundation announced that its annual Tribute to the U.S. Coast Guard in Washington, D.C., will take place on June 7,2022, at the historic National Building Museum in Washington.The event celebrates the Coast Guard and raises funds for Coast Guard Foundation programs that support service members and their families when and where they are most in need.“We look forward to coming together with policymakers, industry leaders and government officials to highlight the heroism of the U.S.

On August 9, 1992 – 25 years ago today – the motor yacht Destriero set the record for the fastest Atlantic crossing, a record that remains unbeaten to this day. The monohull, built in 1991 in less than one year in the Fincantieri shipyard of Muggiano and Riva Trigoso, sailed 3,106 nautical miles without refueling, from Ambrose Light, N.Y. to Bishop Rock lightship on the Scilly Isles, England, in 58 hours at an average speed of 53 knots (reaching a maximum speed of 66 knots), claiming once more the Blue Riband, awarded in 1933 to the legendary transatlantic liner Rex. The yacht also set a record on its return journey, awarded the Virgin Atlantic Trophy by the English business magnate Richard Branson on September 5, 1992, as well as the New York Yacht Club Columbus Atlantic Trophy.

Set for September 17-20th, 2015 on Newport Harbor is the Newport International Boat Show (NIBS), which flaunts its destination and sailing history to attendees making their fall travel plans. NIBS is the kick-off to the boat show season and a prime time to experience fall in New England. It’s also one of the largest in-water boat shows in the country – hosting exhibitors from around the world with an exceptional assortment of sailboats, powerboats, marine equipment, services and accessories for boaters. “In addition to attending the boat show, visitors should make plans to enjoy all that our seaside retreat has to offer,” said Nancy Piffard, show director of Newport Exhibition Group. Navatek, the naval research and design company based in Hawaii and Rhode Island, and NEB, a leading builder of high-tech composite and aluminum boats based in Portsmouth, R.I., announce the launching of the Sea Blade 35, a 35-foot rigid hull inflatable boat (RIB) with a top speed of 60 knots. The Sea Blade line of powerboats features a patented hull form designed by Navatek founder and Chairman Steven Loui, a native of Hawaii. The stabilized monohull design has a slender center hull with two stabilizing amas, which form entrapment tunnels between the main hull and amas. Hull panels of 0 or +50-degree deadrise are arranged in longitudinal steps starting with a pad keel.

Grave concerns are held for the crew of the historic American 21m (70ft) schooner Nina missing en route from Opua in the Bay of Islands to Newcastle, Australia. The vessel, built in 1928, left Opua on 29 May and has not been heard from since 4 June, 2013, when the vessel was about 370 nautical miles west-north-west of Cape Reinga. Uncrowned queen of the New York Yacht Club fleet, the incomparable 58-foot staysail schooner Niña was designed by Starling Burgess and built on Buzzards Bay at Monument Beach by Reuben Bigelow in 1928. There are seven people on board, six Americans (three men aged 17, 28 and 58, and three women aged 18, 60 and 73) and a British man aged 35.

The National Maritime Historical Society will host its 2012 Annual Awards Dinner on Wednesday, 10 October 2012 at the New York Yacht Club in New York City. The NMHS Distinguished Service Award, for outstanding contributions in the maritime field, will be presented to Admiral Sir Jonathon Band GCB DL, Captain Brian A. McAllister, and Captain Don Walsh, USN (Ret.), PhD. The David A. O’Neil Sheet Anchor Award, recognizing the contributions of those who further the work of the Society, will be given to Thomas F. Daly.

William B. Hamilton, Jr., of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and formerly Executive Vice President of Sea-Land Service, Inc., and President and CEO of its affiliate, Monterey Transportation Co., Inc., died February 18, 2011, according to his son, William B. Hamilton, III. He was a member of The American Bureau of Shipping, The New York Yacht Club and a past member of The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, The American Society of Certified Public Accountants, a director of J. J. Henry Co., Inc., and was a founding member of The Club at The World Trade Center. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean Patteson Hamilton, two daughters, Jean L. Hamilton of Houston, Texas and Ann E. Hamilton of Putnam Hall, Fla., one son, William B.

Commemorating its 140th anniversary, Germanischer Lloyd celebrated with a gathering in New York. A collection of dignitaries, representatives of shipowners, shipyards, supply industry and administrations of the U.S. maritime area convened at the esteemed New York Yacht Club. In addition, from Nor-Shipping, GL reported that the fleet management program GL ShipManager has its first international clients. Finnish shipping company Oy Langh Ship and Danish company Transmarine Management have entrusted Ms Logistik Systeme, a Germanischer Lloyd Group company, with the implementation of the GL ShipManager in their fleets.

Holland & Knight LLP and Ecology and Environment, Inc. are co-hosting a free, half-day seminar on January 16, 2003 at the New York Yacht Club entitled "How to Implement Your Offshore Natural Gas Terminal.” The seminar will focus on the recent amendment to the U.S. Deepwater Port Act (DWPA). The featured speaker will be Captain Michael Brown, USCG, Chief, Vessel and Facility Operating Standards Division at U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters. Other speakers will address legal issues; financing options; siting, permitting, and environmental concerns; and the role of classification societies.

The U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation will host a reception and dinner for friends at the New York Yacht Club on Wednesday, May 21, 2003, to award Joseph F. Cullman, 3rd, of New York City, with a Lone Sailor Award. A Lone Sailor statue, the symbol of the Navy Memorial, will be presented to Cullman to honor his distinguished career. Mr. Cullman saw combat action as a young naval officer aboard USS Montpelier (CL-57) in the South and Central Pacific in World War II. He is currently chairman emeritus of the Phillip Morris Companies, now known as Altria, Inc. Following his Navy service, Commander Cullman distinguished himself as an enormously successful business leader and an active supporter of charitable organizations and foundations.
