Maritime Administrator Paul “Chip” Jaenichen to Close NMDay 2014

Acting Maritime Administrator, Paul “Chip” Jaenichen will close the “Safety at Sea” Seminar being hosted by North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) at the National Press Club from 2:30-6:00pm. NAMEPA’s seminar will join industry and governmental leaders as they discuss issues of the day surrounding Safety at Sea. The seminar is designed to highlight both best practices and opportunities for improvement. Immediately following the “Safety at Sea” seminar is the AMVER Awards Dinner where over 150 companies will be recognized for their participation in the United States Coast Guard’s (USCG) Automated Mutual-Assistance Vessel Rescue (AMVER) system.

In light of the recent shipping vessel attack on the Suez Canal (Suez Canal Authority, August 31st, 2013), Nexus Consulting is announcing the release of recommendations for merchant vessels traveling through the canal. Advice on Choosing Private Maritime Security Protection

Nexus Consulting release their updated best practice guidelines for maritime security firm selection by shipowners. “As the number of private maritime firms has grown from a handful just a few years ago to over a hundred today, we felt it was important to help shipping organizations get a head start in their selection process,” said Nexus Consulting’s President Kevin Doherty in a statement. In addition to the best practices guidelines, Nexus was featured at the NAMEPA 2013 National Maritime Day Seminar and AMVER Awards in a panel discussion on the changing face of piracy. As piracy tactics evolve, Nexus Consulting’s Kevin Doherty led talks on how to keep cargo and crew protected in a dynamic, evolving environment.

'Safety at Sea' focus of NAMEPA's National Maritime Day seminar at the Washington DC National Press Club. The North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) will be offering a seminar “Environmental Intelligence in Maritime:  Safety at Sea", featuring shipboard safety, piracy, and an update on issues for seafarers. The seminar will take place on May 21st at the National Press Club in Washington DC commencing at 2:00pm. The seminar is intended to commemorate National Maritime Day, which is held on May 22nd to honor merchant mariners.

Nexus to Present Maritime Safety Workshop at CMA Expo

Nexus Consulting  announce their participation in the upcoming “CMA Shipping 2013” conference as exclusive maritime security exhibitor. The company is involved in the field of maritime security and piracy deterrance and will show at The Connecticut Maritime Association [CMA]-led conference, one of the largest in North America to focus on the international shipping trade. In addition to the expo, Nexus will be presenting a one-hour workshop Monday March 18th, 2013 from 5-6pm ET in the seminar area of the expo. The presentation is titled “The 6 'Ds' to a safe and secure maritime operation.” The workshop is targeted at ship owners, ship operators, company security officers, special projects, risk management staff, HQSSE and any other safety, security or operations staff.

US Merchant Ship With Anti-piracy Weaponry on Board Released

Nexus Consulting, says an 'administrative mistake' led to the Venezuala detention of a US-flagged ship. Background: Venezuelan authorites arrested a U.S. ship captain early Thursday after three assault rifles were found on board. Nexus Consulting is proud to announce that all charges against the master and crew of the US-Flagged vessel detained in Venezuela have been dropped. The vessel is finally on its way home, with all crew, cargo and anti-piracy weaponry having been returned by the Venezuelan government as of 1800 Sept 14th. Nexus would like to thank the maritime unions SIU and AMO as well as Congressman Delahunt of Massachusetts and the owners and operators for their support during this ordeal.

Just months after the Costa Concordia accident, and amid daily reports of piracy and needless accidents at sea, the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) will be offering a seminar “Environmental Intelligence in Maritime:  Safety at Sea, featuring shipboard safety, piracy, and an update on issues for seafarers. The seminar will take place on May 21st at the National Press Club in Washington DC commencing at 3:00pm.

World Maritime Day Observance in Tampa on 27 October

North American World Maritime Day Observance and US Coast Guard Missions Conference to feature Piracy, Stewardship, Safety and Security. Two day event draws maritime industry, regulators and regional representatives. Piracy will be the focus of this year’s North American World Maritime Day Observance being held in Tampa, FL on October 27th followed by a US Coast Guard Missions conference on October 28th which will feature panel discussions on the stewardship, safety and security missions of the Coast Guard. Both events will be held at the Marriott Waterside in Tampa and are free and open to the public. North American regional representatives from industry, government and NGO’s will dialog on these critically important regional issues.

N. American World Maritime Day Observance features Piracy, Stewardship, Safety

Piracy will be the focus of this year’s North American World Maritime Day Observance being held in Tampa, FL on October 27th followed by a US Coast Guard Missions conference on October 28th which will feature panel discussions on the stewardship, safety and security missions of the Coast Guard. Both events will be held at the Marriott Waterside in Tampa and are free and open to the public. North American regional representatives from industry, government and NGO’s will dialog on these critically important regional issues. The events directly follow the USCG Flag Officer’s conference and Innovation Expo. For the past several years, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has promoted awareness about the maritime community through World Maritime Day.
