The International Bunker Industry Association, (IBIA) has joined with South Shields Marine School at South Tyneside College, to develop a course unit on bunkering essentials for merchant navy cadets and engineering officers taking their Class one and Class two certificates of competency. The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) noted an improvement in bunker quality from across the marine fuels supply chain thanks in part to a campaign launched by the association. Addressing an audience of more than 1,000 marine fuel buyers, suppliers and traders at the association’s annual dinner in London last night, IBIA Chairman Jens Maul Jorgensen said that the early results for 2015 show that there has been a marked improvement in bunker fuel quality with 8% of samples found to be off-spec compared with 10% in 2014. In a bid to improve bunker quality across the marine fuel supply chain, the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has called on marine fuel suppliers to adopt the ISO 2010 specifications for bunkers. Despite having been introduced four years ago to improve bunker standards, it is estimated that only a quarter of bunker suppliers are currently supplying in accordance with the 2010 specifications. International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) chief Cliff Brand resigns to become Marine Director, King Abdullah Economic City Seaport. International Bunker Industry Association has announced that it is searching for a new chief executive following the resignation of its Chief Executive Cliff Brand. Cliff Brand will be leaving the organisation on 28 March, 2013. IBIA board member Trevor Harrison will act as interim chief executive until a replacement is found, having previously acted as IBIA chief executive for 15 months during 2011/12.

The International Bunker Industry Association’s (IBIA) has announced that it is seeking a new Chief  Executive to run the organisation from its Southampton headquarters. The 600 member trade association has been run by IBIA board member and maritime arbitrator Trevor Harrison on an interim basis since the resignation of its previous Chief Executive last year. “Representing interests from across the entire marine fuels industry at the highest level represents an exciting opportunity for someone with extensive shipping or oil industry knowledge.

Following an election, the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has appointed Robin Meech (Marine and Energy Consulting) and Ciric Cheung (Fratelli Cosulich Bunkers HK) to its board from 1 April 2012. They replace previous IBIA chairman Mike Ball (Gearbulk UK) and Mustafa Muhtaroglu (Energy Petrol) who have served seven and nine year terms of office respectively. Trevor Harrison was re-elected to serve another term.   The announcement was made at the IBIA Annual Dinner in London by Vice Chairman Nigel Draffin who, as previously announced, becomes Chairman on 1 April.

The International Bunker Industry Association's (IBIA) board has taken a formal decision to “become more closely engaged in LNG matters”. The move was announced at last week's IBIA's Annual Convention, held in Barcelona, by its acting chief executive Trevor Harrison. He told delegates that the association would become more involved in the ongoing discussions on LNG as a fuel at the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The potential of LNG as a fuel for merchant ships received considerable attention. Several speakers referred to the issue while addressing industry concerns about the 2015 implementation of the 0.1% sulphur content cap in bunkers used within Emission Control Areas (ECAs). In addition one session was entirely devoted to the prospects for widespread use of LNG.

Ian Adams has been appointed the first ever Chief Executive of the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) following the decision to change from a 25-member Council of Management to an executive structure headed by a Board of Directors. Adams was formerly Secretary-General of IBIA which, since its formation in 1993, has been governed by a Council of Management. The decision to restructure was unanimously agreed by members at the IBIA convention in Cape Town in November last year.
