Wärtsilä Gas Units Selected for Largest Ever Spar Platform

A new spar platform being built for Statoil's Aasta Hansteen field off the coast of Norway will feature Wärtsilä's Inert Gas and Nitrogen Generator systems, the power solutions company said. The contract has been issued in the first quarter 2014 by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) of South Korea, the yard building the platform. The Wärtsilä Inert Gas Generator will utilize titanium in its construction, the first time ever that this material has been used in such a system. Titanium was preferred due to its superior corrosion resistance in relation to sea water. Unitor Secures Significant Orders

Unitor, Norway's international ship supply specialist, has garnered its largest ever single order for ships equipment with a $6.8 million contract from Poland's Stocznia Szczecinska SA (Szczecin Shipyard) for nitrogen generator systems for eight 40,000-dwt chemical tankers under construction at the yard. The order encompasses the delivery of Unitor's 35-ton, hollow-fibre, air separation nitrogen generator system, to each tanker comprising four 360 kW compressors and nitrogen generators producing 3,750 cu. m. of 95 percent pure nitrogen/hour. The eight IMO Class II vessels, which are reportedly the most sophisticated of their type, will be delivered between January 2001-June 2003. The company's marine contracting division also landed insulation contracts by various U.K.
