Rolls-Royce Delivering First Gas Power System for Tugs

Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has signed a contract to deliver highly efficient engines and propulsion systems for the world’s first Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) powered tugs. NMD chosen for Australia's new Hobart Class Air Warfare Destroyers

Hatteland Display announce that our 20.1 inch NMD, full naval display, has been selected,for the C4 environment aboard the new Hobart Class Air Warfare Destroyers. The Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) project, also known as SEA 4000, will provide the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) with three technologically advanced air warfare destroyers. The work is led by the Air Warfare Destroyer Alliance (AWD) which comprises the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO), ASC and Raytheon Australia. The AWD project is one of the largest ongoing naval projects in Australia.

STX Europe to Build Simon Møkster PSV

STX Europe has entered into a new contract with Simon Møkster Rederi for the building of a Platform Supply Vessel (PSV). The vessel is of STX Europe PSV 09 CD design, featured with the new environmental friendly hull lines optimized for eco-drive in all weather conditions. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in Q4 2011. Norway Recognizes ABS MODU Rules

The maritime authority of Norway, the Norwegian Maritime Directorate (NMD), has extended its authorization to class society ABS to include Mobile Offshore Drilling Units (MODUs) in its scope as a Recognized Organization (RO). This entitles ABS to class Norwegian-flagged rigs without having to perform additional safety equivalencies or a GAP analysis to meet Norwegian law. The additional annex to the existing agreement between NMD and ABS was signed the week of Feb. 23 in Haugesund, Norway by ABS President and COO Christopher J.

Hatteland Chosen for Navy Freedom Class

Hatteland Display's Naval Multi Display (NMD), has been chosen for the US Navy Freedom Class LCS by Navantia, Spanish military ship building contractor. The Navantia system is an Electro-Optical (E-O) solution for the fire control system of the Freedom Class. It is a high-tech solution that is also selected by the American company Lockheed Martin. "We have worked closely with the Navantia R&D team in southern Spain, which has led to participation in various ship and submarine programs for local and export contracts," said Mehdi Bounoua, Manager Region South Europe, Hatteland Display. The new NMD meets the requirements of MIL-S-901D, Grade A, Class I shock, eliminating the need for shock isolation in the rack or console, as well as Mil-Std-167-1, Mil-Std-461E, and Mil-Std-810F.

GlobalSantaFe New-build Rigs Provide Model for Requirements

Technical advances in the offshore industry and regulatory developments have spurred an update of the ABS Guide for Certification of Drilling Systems. First published in 1985 and last updated in 1990, the Guide references current standards and the recommendations of American Petroleum Institute (API). Importantly, the new Guide provides industry with an option for a “Safety Case” or risk-based analysis approach to certification, rather than applying the more traditional prescriptive rules reflected in the 1990 version of the Guide, says Merih Unuvar, ABS project leader and principal surveyor. “We’re offering drilling unit owners and builders a more streamlined approach to ABS classification, with the option of certifying the drilling system,” said Unuvar.

Odfjell Reports on Accident Onboard M/T NCC MEKKA

Odfjell has confirmed that second injured crewmember passed away last night. Since the accident onboard M/T NCC MEKKA he has been under intensive medical treatment at a specialist hospital in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A Maritime Enquiry was held on board M/T NCC MEKKA on June 9 while the ship was at anchor in Rio de Janeiro. The Enquiry was administered by the Norwegian General Consul in Brazil and attended by Maritime Investigator John Ramsoy from the Norwegian Maritime Directorate (NMD) and Odfjell's Risk Manager, Capt. Toralf Sorenes. Several witnesses were heard during the Enquiry and a survey of the area of the explosion was also carried out.

Faster Than A Speeding...

It is little secret that as offshore oil production moves further from shore, the boats that service these offshore units must be bigger, stronger and more capable than their ancestors. Here's a peak at emerging technologies and the boats that house them. The technology to cost efficiently discover and recover oil and gas in increasingly deeper part of the Gulf of Mexico has quickly led to the development of bigger, stronger and more ruggedly equipped Offshore Service Vessels, not only on drawings boards but operating on the waterways. The discovery of oil and gas fields such as Auger, Marlim and Mars, have among others, highlighted the vast potential for drilling success and the inadequacy of the current fleet of OSVs to perform the job as cost effectively as possible.

Heerema to Invest $1b for New Deepwater Construction Vessel

Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) is investing $1b in a new deepwater construction vessel. The new vessel will feature unrivalled speeds and state-of-the-art equipment. It will enable HMC to operate in remote areas and ultra deepwater increasing the pace of field development worldwide. New Design for Workover and Subsea Support Vessel

Elliott Bay Design Group has introduced a new design for a workover and subsea support vessel, called Deepworker 2000. Maximizing working space and safety features, the new column-stabilized and dynamically positioned design is intended for worldwide use in distant, deepwater situations with conditions up to sea state 7. Deepworker 2000 is 260 ft. long, with a molded beam of 104 ft., which allows it to transit the Panama Canal. The vessel has a molded normal operating draft of 25 ft., and is designed to meet ABS DP3 and DNV NMD Class 3 Guidelines, with required failure mode redundancies. Principal characteristics include a displacement of approximately 7,170 lt at normal operating draft, a service speed of 12 knots, 21,000 sq. ft. of clear deck workspace and accommodations for 101.
