RoRo Facility Installed in Ostuferhafen

New RoRo facility for Berth No.1

The RoRo facility for Berth No. 1, which has been completely refurbished at ADM Kiel by Nobiskrug GmbH, was installed this morning. The pontoon-feeder for the ferry aft ramps weighing 1,800 tons was floated into position and moored. Dr. Dirk Claus, Managing Director at  Seehafen Kiel GmbH & Co. KG, said, “The new RoRo device is another milestone in extending Kiel’s freight and logistic activities. Abu Dhabi MAR Kiel

As of September 1, 2011, the contracts for the acquisition of the former HDW Gaarden GmbH in Kiel have entered into force. Abu Dhabi MAR Kiel GmbH starts with 172 employees, the facilities, equipment and infrastructure of the former HDW Gaarden, working on first orders of its target markets offshore, mega yachts and construction of special vessels. Management Directors of this new company are Ms Susanne Wiegand and Mr Holger Kahl. The operations manager is Mr Christian Schmitt, who already held a leading position at HDW Gaarden’s surface vessel division for several years. Abu Dhabi MAR Kiel is currently building a 75 m yacht and an offshore transformer platform.

‘New’ German Shipyard is Underway

With the closing on January 5, 2005, the marriage between ThyssenKrupp Werften and HDW has been formally consummated. This date also marks the official inception of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, the new group parent headquartered in Hamburg. Essentially, ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems comprises the following subsidiaries: Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH, Kiel; HDW-Nobiskrug GmbH, Rendsburg; Blohm + Voss GmbH und Blohm + Voss Repair GmbH, Hamburg; Nordseewerke GmbH, Emden; as well as Kockums AB, Sweden, and Hellenic Shipyards S.A., Greece. ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems represents a sales volume of around €2.2 billion and presently employs a workforce of 9,300. Dr. Klaus Borgschulte chairs the new company as CEO. Ulrich Ziolkowski is its CFO, while Reinhard Kuhlmann heads Human Resources.

Big Repair Order for Nobiskrug

The Rendsburg based Repair Division of Nobiskrug GmbH – a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems – has been commissioned to repair extensive fire damage to the 117.5 m “Josef Möbius”, a 5,939 GT suction dredger with drag nozzle. On the July 28, the superstructure and the bridge of the dredger were severely damaged in Spain by a fire that broke out in the engine-room. The ship is now on its way towards Rendsburg, towed by a Spanish tug boat at a speed of around 9 knots. It is expected to arrive at the shipyard on the 20th September 2005 – weather conditions permitting. Repair work will take almost three months.
