IUMI Encouraging Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging

During this year’s annual conference held in Edinburgh, the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) took the opportunity to explore and debate the question of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) with the ambition of taking concrete steps to enhance its own representation and that of the marine insurance community more generally.Patrizia Kern-Ferretti, Chair of IUMI’s Nominating Committee, is driving the initiative and explained: “In 2010, after IUMI having been in existence for more than 135 years, I was only the second woman to chair an IUMI Technical Committee.

Gulf Island Chairman Flick to Retire

Diana Shipping Appoints Semiramis Paliou

Richard Turner, European Director of Global Risk Solutions at RSA Insurance Group has been elected President of the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI).In accordance with the Articles of Association, IUMI’s Council formally elected Richard at their annual meeting which was held today, the final day of the IUMI annual conference in Cape Town. Kwan re-elected vice chair, Vancouver Fraser Port Authority board

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority board of directors has re-elected Eugene Kwan as vice chair for a third term commencing March 25, 2018. Mr. Kwan was appointed to the board of directors by the federal minister of transport as recommended by the Port User Group Nominating Committee. Mr. Kwan is also a member of the Governance and Stakeholder Relations Committee and the Major Capital Projects Committee. The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s board of directors is composed of 11 members: one federal appointee; one British Columbia provincial appointee; one appointee for the Prairie provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba; one appointee representing the 16 municipalities bordering the port; and, seven federal appointees recommended by port users.

Keppel's Independent Director Leong-Chee to retire

Keppel Corporation Limited (Keppel Corporation) announced that Mr Tony Chew Leong-Chee, Non-Executive and Independent Director, will be retiring from the Board of Directors of Keppel Corporation on 1 May 2015. Capuco is Chief Naval Architect of Gibbs & Cox

Gibbs & Cox, Inc., an independent naval architecture and marine engineering firm, announced the appointment of Mr. Benedict P. Capuco as Chief Naval Architect. In this role, Capuco will provide corporate leadership to the company's naval architecture and marine engineering capabilities and solutions across the Gibbs & Cox global portfolio. Prior to this appointment, Capuco served as Vice President and Group Manager of the Platform Solutions Group of Gibbs & Cox, leading full ship design projects including commercial projects, foreign navy projects, and U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard projects, most notably the FREEDOM Class Littoral Combat Ship and the Offshore Patrol Cutter.

Keppel T & T Appoints Lim Chin Leong to its Board

Keppel Telecommunications & Transportation Ltd (Keppel T&T) has strengthened its Board with the appointment of Mr Lim Chin Leong as an independent, non-executive Director with effect from 1 September 2014. Mr Lim will also be a member of the Nominating Committee and Board Safety Committee. Mr Lim, 59, was with Schlumberger for more than 30 years where he served in various roles from technical, personnel and line management positions in Asia, the Middle East and the US, including Vice President of Well Completions and Production (Middle East and Asia) and President of Schlumberger Oilfield Services. Mr Lim retired as Chairman of Asia for Schlumberger in 2010.

Star Bulk Proposes $75 million Backstopped Equity Rights Offering

Star Bulk Carriers Corp. announced that its Board of Directors approved a backstopped equity rights offering, which will allow the company to raise equity capital through the sale of its commonshares. The proceeds are expected to be primarily used for orders for fuel-efficient dry bulk vessels with some of the proceeds being reserved for working capital and general corporate purposes. NOL Appoints Leading Senior Counsel to Board

NOL Group has announced the appointment of Senior Counsel Mr Alvin Yeo to its Board of Directors. Subject to shareholders’ approval at NOL’s Annual General Meeting on 18 April 2013 (“AGM”),  Mr Yeo, Senior Partner at WongPartnership LLP, will join the Board after the AGM. Michel Named 15th President of Webb Institute

Dr. George Campbell Jr. R. Keith Michel, Chairman of the Board of the Herbert Engineering Group of Companies, has been appointed President of Webb Institute, the country’s foremost school of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, effective July 1, 2013. New Directors Named at NOL

Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) has appointed Ang Kong Hua and Willie Cheng Jue Hiang, to the Board of Directors, and confirmed Ron Widdows as CEO of its container transportation unit, APL. Ang Kong Hua becomes a Vice Chairman of the Board, joining Dr Friedbert Malt in this role, and will sit on both the Board’s Executive Committee and Nominating Committee. Willie Cheng Jue Hiang will serve on the Audit Committee in addition to his responsibilities as a member of the full Board.
