Shipbroking, financial advisory and logistics services provider Braemar Shipping Services said Wednesday it has appointed James Gundy as group CEO, effective January 1.Gundy has been the CEO of Braemar’s Shipbroking Division, the group’s largest operation, since joining the company in 2014 following the merger with ACM Shipping Group. He has been a shipbroker for 35 years specializing in tankers and sale and purchase projects. Kirby Executive Chairman Pyne to Retire

Houston based tank barge operator Kirby Corporation announced that Joseph H. Pyne will retire as Executive Chairman of the Board, effective April 30, 2018. ST Engineering Adds Nonexecutive Director

Singapore based defense and engineering firm Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) has appointed Neo Kian Hong as nonindependent and nonexecutive director of the company, effective June 30, 2017. Neo is Singapore’s Permanent Secretary (Defense Development) and has held various command positions in the Ministry of Defense, including Chief of Army and Chief of Defense Force. He was also Permanent Secretary (Education Development) at Ministry of Education until June 19, 2017. Neo holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) from the University of London, U.K. as well as a Master of Science (Management of Technology) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, U.S.

East to Succeed Rishton as Rolls-Royce CEO

John Rishton will retire as chief executive of Rolls-Royce on July 2, 2015 and will be succeeded by Warren East, whose appointment follows an extensive international search, the company announced today. Warren East was CEO of ARM Holdings from 2001 to 2013. Warren has been a nonexecutive director of Rolls-Royce since January 2014, also serving as a nonexecutive director on the boards of BT, De La Rue, Dyson, Micron Inc. and Digital Catapult. His intention is to stand down from all but one of his current roles as a nonexecutive Director, in line with Rolls-Royce company policy. Commenting on his appointment, East said, “[Rolls-Royce] is well positioned in growth markets, with world class engineering skills and a proud record of innovation and delivery.

Aschmann to Take CEO Helm at BSM

Rajaish Bajpaee will hand over CEO responsibility of Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) to his current deputy, Capt. Norbert Aschmann, through planned succession at the end of December 2014 after more than 27 at the Schulte Group. Bajpaee will then take up the position of Chairman in a nonexecutive capacity, with effect from January 1, 2015, where he will support the continued success of BSM. Bajpaee joined the Eurasia Group of Companies in 1987, commencing as Deputy General Manager before being promoted to the position of President & CEO.

Regulators Invited to Witness Ship Breaking in India

Global Marketing Systems, Inc (GMS) has challenged the European Commission’s intention to ban ship recycling by beaching, by inviting the commission and a major representative group of top level shipping industry stakeholders to India to witness the recycling process first hand at one of the country’s best yards. Addressing an industry conference in London, Dr. Nikos Mikelis, nonexecutive director of GMS, said ship recycling yards were improving in Southeast Asia, and the best way to see this was to visit the yards in person.

Nerbovik Named CEO of Aker Philadelphia

Aker Philadelphia Shipyard ASA announced that its board of directors has appointed Steinar Nerbovik as president and CEO of Aker Philadelphia Shipyard ASA effective today. Nerbovik has served as the company's managing director for the past seven months and was previously the company's senior vice president of operations. Kristian Rokke will continue as chairman of the board of AKPS, but in a nonexecutive capacity. "Today's announcement is mostly a formality given Steinar's prominent role at the company since 2013 and follows the plan set earlier this year, but nonetheless, it is an important milestone for AKPS," Rokke said. "The shipyard is in a robust position right now with an order book through 2018," remarked Nerbovik.

Lamprell First Half Results Beat Expectations

Lamprell today announced its financial results for the first half of 2014, reporting results ahead of expectations due to strong operational performance and early results from savings initiatives, generating improved margins. Revenues rose by $125.7 million against H1 2013 as a result of the high H1 activity levels and phasing of construction activity during the period. According to Lamprell, successful rights issue and refinancing provides a strong financial platform and enables delivery of long-term growth strategy.

Speedcast Announces Buyout

Speedcast announces buyout; also announces appointment of new Board Director and Chairman. SpeedCast Ltd. announced the buyout of SatComms Australia, a satellite solutions provider in Australia. The closing of the transaction is subject to regulatory approval. The acquisition will further consolidate SpeedCast’s leadership position in the Asia-Pacific region and provide SpeedCast with an expanded presence in Australia. SpeedCast also announced the appointment of Michael Malone as a nonexecutive Board Director and the appointment of John Mackay as Chairman of the Board.

For 35 years, Dr. Bidwell built and led Environmental Resources Management (ERM) the global environmental advisory firm employing more than 5000 employees in over 40 countries. BMT Group Ltd., an international design, engineering and risk management consultancy, has announced that Jan Kopernicki has joined the Board of Directors as a nonexecutive Director. Jan has extensive experience in the shipping industry, with his career at Shell spanning over 40 years. As Head of Shipping until his retirement in 2011, his global team was responsible for Shell’s portfolio of oil tanker, LPG and LNG vessels and for advising on safety and environmental aspects of shipping.
