10,000 km Kayak Journey Ends in Istanbul
Two French students arrived yesterday (9th October) in Istanbul, finishing a 14 month epic 10,000km journey by sea kayak, having set off from Gibraltar in July 2013. Sponsored by leading marine lubricant supplier Total Lubmarine, the pair conducted important research into toxic algae and noise pollution in the Mediterranean. The journey, part of the Mare Nostrum Project, saw Louis Wilmotte and Douglas Couet paddle the whole length of Europe’s Mediterranean coast in a sea kayak carrying out scientific, educational and cultural assignments.
New Lubricant Minimizes Risk of Cold Corrosion
Marine lubricant provider, Total Lubmarine today launched its latest product, TALUSIA UNIVERSAL 100. The lubricant is designed to reduce the risk of cold corrosion in Mark 8.1 and newer marine engines, as well as electronically controlled engines. Following the latest guidance from certain engine manufacturers on how to effectively manage severe cold corrosion, TALUSIA UNIVERSAL 100 supports the technical changes made to the latest generation of engines. In an effort to reduce fuel oil consumption and reduce emissions, new engines have been designed with lower rotations per minute, longer strokes and increased scavenge and combustion pressures.
Atlantic Energy Enters Total Lubmarine Fleet
A naming ceremony was held for Atlantic Energy, the newest addition to marine lubricant provider Total Lubmarine’s fleet. The ceremony for the the newly-built vessel took place on November 18 at Posttrans B.V in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Atlantic Energy is a 1,560 dwt, double-hulled barge. She features a 35-meter bunker boom, allowing delivery to the largest container ships in the world calling at Rotterdam port and Europoort. Her 16 cargo tanks will transport Total Lubmarine’s cylinder oils, system oils and trunk piston engine oils.
