New Cargo Ship MV Frijsenborg Calls Port Everglades

Broward County's Port Everglades today welcomed Nordana's newly built cargo ship MV Frijsenborg on the vessel's maiden call to South Florida. Port Everglades Chief Executive & Port Director Steve Cernak and Deputy Port Director Glenn Wiltshire presented a traditional plaque and port challenge coin to Frijsenborg Master Francesco Rafanelli to mark the occasion. Built by Cantiere Navale Visentini of Porto Viro, Italy, the Frijsenborg is 179.46 meters long with gross tonnage of 21,970.

Rickmers Acquires Nordana Project

Rickmers-Linie, the Hamburg based liner service specialist for breakbulk, heavy lift and project cargoes takes over the activities of tramp and chartering specialist Nordana Project & Chartering with offices in Copenhagen, Bangkok, Singapore and Houston. The business will continue under the name and brand “NPC” and become an independent division supplementing the Rickmers-Linie segment within the Rickmers Group effective 1 July 2016. In the new arrangement NPC will operate a multipurpose heavy lift fleet worldwide in the size range between 8,000 and 21,000 dwt with a lifting capacity of up to 500 tonnes. The core fleet will be made up of Nordana’s 12,000 dwt heavy lift vessels and will include Thai flag vessels.

Nordana Names Rickmers-Linie as China Representative

Nordana Project and Chartering and Rickmers-Linie, Hamburg announced that Rickmers-Linie represents Nordana in China effective as of March 17, 2016. With this step, the two companies extend an already existing partnership which began in June last year when Rickmers (Japan) Inc was appointed as the sole General Agent of Nordana Project and Chartering in Japan. The Rickmers-Linie Representative Offices in China will support Nordana on marketing in China and will also coordinate documentation including agency services through sub-agencies.

‘Nordana Sea’ Delivered to Symphony Shipping

After successful sea trials, Dutch shipbuilder Ferus Smit delivered a 10,550 dwt multi-purpose cargo carrier M.V. Nordana Sea to Symphony Shipping on February 11th 2016. Being the third unit in a series of 6 newbuilds Ferus Smit’s DP2 Ecobox design, departed on her maiden voyage in ballast to Esbjerg, where she will pick up large windmill components to be delivered in Greece. The Ecobox design is characterized by its flexibility of loading combined with very economical and ecological performance. * Main dimensions (Loa X B X T) 122.5 X 17.0 X 7.8 mtr. * 10550 DWT, 429.000 cft hold volume. * Iceclass 1A with 3000 kW main engine. * A large single hold of completely box shaped form. * Large loading floor area for project cargoes, including complete movable tweendeck.

Nordana Sea Delivered to Symphony Shipping

After successful sea trials, M.V. Nordana Sea was delivered to Symphony Shipping on February 11, 2016. Constructed by builder Ferus-Smit in the Netherlands (yard number 419), Nordana Sea is the third unit in a series of six newbuilds of the yard’s Ecobox design. The ship has now left the river Ems on her maiden voyage in ballast to Esbjerg, where she will pick up large windmill components to be delivered in Greece. According to the shipbuilder, the Ecobox design is characterized by its flexibility of loading combined with very economical and ecological performance.

Maersk Orders BWTS for 7 Newbuilds

DESMI Ocean Guard A/S to supply ballast water treatment systems to a series of new container vessels to be built at COSCO Zhoushan shipyard in China, for Danish shipper Maersk Line. DESMI Ocean Guard announced that its RayClean ballast water treatment system (BWTS) has been selected for installation on Maersk Line’s series of new containerships to be built at COSCO Zhoushan Shipyard Co., Ltd. The order is for seven vessels each equipped with two RayClean 500 BWTS, with options for two additional vessels. The systems will be delivered in 2016 and 2017.

NORDANA Nominates Rickmers as General Agent in Japan

NORDANA Project and Chartering (NPC) and Rickmers (Japan) Inc. announced jointly that Rickmers (Japan) Inc. was nominated as sole General Agent of NORDANA Project and Chartering in Japan effective from June 15, 2015. NORDANA’s name is taken from its NORwegian and DANish background. The company started business in 1957 and its Asian Head Office is located in Thailand. Nordana is part of the Weco Group which consists of amongst others tankers (StenaWeco), RoRos, a bulk division and multipurpose tweendeckers. Weco Group operates more than 90 vessels and is a privately owned company. NORDANA owns and operates a fleet of more than 25 Breakbulk and Heavy Lift Multipurpose tweendeck vessels with an average age of four years…

Ferus Smit to Launch Nordan Star

Ferus Smit informs it will launch Nb. 418 Nordana Star for Symphony Shipping on Friday, July 3, at its shipyard in Leer, Germany. Nordana Star is the second vessel in a series of six to be delivered to Symphony Shipping. As her name reveals, the ship will be chartered out to the Danish company Nordana and sail in her fleet after delivery. Nordana Star is of Ferus Smit’s Ecobox general/project cargo ship design, which is characterized by its flexibility of loading combined with very economical and ecological performance.

The German Shipbuilding Rebound

German shipbuilding has made a significant turnaround. The country’s shipbuilding industry has seen increases in the number of employees, orders and deliveries compared to 2013, according to the German Shipbuilding and Ocean Industries Association (VSM). The special shipbuilding sector drove this growth, as 20 of the 34 delivered new builds could be classified as high-quality special vessels or naval units. Although VSM announces its annual balance officially in May of each year, MR was able to obtain some early insights into the results.

Rejig at Pan Ocean

South Korean bulker operator Pan Ocean re-sumitted its rehabilitation plan to the South Korean court that will see discount rate of cash repayment and decision of reduction of capital. The shipowner will see it reduce payments to creditors as it raises KRW 850bn ($785m) through a new share sale. Pan Ocean went into receivership after incurring over $ 5 billion in debts in 2013, after being battered by tonnage overhang following the global financial crisis. A series of debt-to-equity swaps saw Korea Development Bank become Pan Ocean's biggest shareholder. The restructured company plans to issue 757,844 shares on April 29. The move comes as Pan Ocean settles claims arising from its recent bankruptcy. The main creditor listed is Merrill Lynch, which is awarded 595,924 shares.

First Ecobox Nordana Sky in Operation

MV Nordana Sky was delivered to Symphony Shipping on March 26 after the vessel completed sea trials, the builder Ferus Smit announced. Nordana Sky is the first vessel in a series of six ships in the new ECOBOX general/project cargo ship design. It features a single large boxshaped hold of 429,000 cft that can be optionally sailed ‘open top’ without maindeck hatches. Her hull caries 10550 DWT at main dimensions (Loa X B X T) 122.5 X 17.0 X 7.8 mtr. The deckhouse is placed on the foreship to optimally protect the cargo. Cargo handling can be done with the ships own 50/85 tons double cranes.

Ferus Smit announced it will launch Newbuuld 417 on Saturday, February 21 in Leer. Newbuild 417, a multipurpose vessel to be christened Nordana Sky, is the first vessel in a series of six that will be delivered to Symphony Shipping. The ship will be chartered out to the Danish company Nordana and sail in her fleet after delivery. Nordana Sky is the first vessel of Ferus Smit’s new ecobox design, which is characterized by its flexibility of loading combined with very economical and ecological performance, the builder said.

MacGregor Heavy-lift Electric Cranes Ordered for Nordana MPVs

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has won a contract to deliver four 250-metric-ton heavy-lift electric cranes to two 12,000 dwt multipurpose vessels (MPVs) for a Danish operator Nordana. As part of a fleet refurbishment plan, the long-established Danish operator, Nordana, ordered four heavy-lift versions of MacGregor's variable frequency drive (VFD) electric cranes which are scheduled for delivery during 2014 and 2015. "Nordana is recognized as a specialist operator with a fleet of vessels able to carry a wide variety of cargoes," said Svante Lundberg, Sales Manager, MacGregor cargo cranes.

CP Ships to Acquire Nordana Line

CP Ships, one of the world's top ten container shipping companies, has reached agreement with Dannebrog of Denmark to acquire Caribbean/Latin American market specialist Nordana Line. The acquisition includes Nordana's business and services and its 10,000 teu container fleet. roll-on/roll-off ships owned by Dannebrog and the sub-charter of three chartered-in ships. commented Chief Executive Officer Ray Miles. CP Ships and Dannebrog Agree To End Nordana Acquisition

CP Ships and Dannebrog have decided not to proceed with the planned acquisition of Nordana Line by CP Ships. In the month since the acquisition plan was announced on November 14, further discussions revealed a number of issues that prevented the transaction from being completed to both parties' satisfaction. CP Ships remains committed to its strategy of making selective acquisitions to reinforce its position in its principal regional markets.
