Nordex Wind Energy Orders Top 6.2GW in 2019

The turbine manufacturing and installation company Nordex Group booked turbine orders totaling 6207MW in 2019, up 31% on the 4754MW in 2018.The German manufacturer secured deals with a combined capacity of 1477MW in the fourth quarter of last year, which was down on the 1679MW in the last three months of 2018.Overall, the Nordex Group received orders to deliver 1,616 wind turbines with a total output of 6,207 MW in 2019, representing a 31 percent increase on the previous year (2018: 4,754 MW).In the fourth quarter of 2019, the majority of this volume (57 percent) was attributable to turbines in the Delta4000 series. Top Turbine Makers to Spend $2.6bln on R&D

Research and development (R&D) expenses among the world's top ten wind turbine manufacturers are expected to exceed $2.6 billion by 2023.The  R&D expenses more than doubled in the last four years, reaching $1.8m in 2018, as demand grows for ever-bigger on- and offshore models, according to the latest research from Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables.The analyst said that over 90 new onshore and offshore turbines are expected to be launched within the next five years by the top 10 leading manufacturers."Turbine OEMs have accelerated R&D investments in next-generation turbine platforms, battling against new unit sales margin compression and the market’s need to further reduce wind energy’s Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE).

TRIG Acquires French Wind Farms

UK-based investment fund  The Renewables Infrastructure Group (TRIG) has acquired stakes in four French onshore windfarms, with a total capacity of 107.8 MW. InfraRed’s listed renewables vehicle did not disclose financial details of acquisitions. Watson Farley & Williams (WFW) has advised British investment fund.WFW assisted TRIG on the acquisition, from their operations manager Renewable Energy Systems (RES), and financing of the two ready to build “Rosières” and “Montigny” wind farms in the Northern French departments of Meuse and Aisne with a total installed capacity of 31.8 MW.It also assisted the acquisition from the Chinese energy…

Europe Invests in African Renewable Energy

Vattenfall's Groebler Named WindEurope Chair

Gunnar Groebler, Senior Vice President, Business Area Wind at Vattenfall,  has been named chairman of WindEurope’s board of directors.Groebler will replace RES CEO Ivor Catto and will serve an 18-month term. Nordex’s Tony Adams becomes the association’s new vice chair.Groebler, a mechanical engineer by background who has been with the Swedish utility since 1999, said: “We’re at an exciting time for wind energy. The technology continues to evolve and with it costs are coming down. Wind is an increasingly affordable source of power for people and businesses.”"The next challenge that we face as an industry is to continue ramping up scale as Europe phases out fossil fuels and electrifies its economy.

Offshore Wind Energy Market to Grow 20%

Global offshore wind energy market was valued at $2,727 thousand in 2019, and is expected to reach $11,334 thousand by 2025, registering a CAGR of +20% from 2019 to 2025, said a study.The global offshore wind energy market has been set blazing with a number of schemes that have recently began power production, according to Researchnreports. Acciona Gets DNV GL Certification

Acciona Energia, the biggest global operator exclusively in renewable energies,  received the first ever prototype certificate for a grid-scale energy storage solution by DNV GL, the world’s largest resource of independent energy experts and certification body. New CEO, Co-CEO to Lead MHI Vestas Offshore Wind

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Vestas Wind Systems (Vestas) have appointed Philippe Kavafyan to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Lars Bondo Krogsgaard to Co-Chief Executive Officer (Co-CEO) of MHI Vestas Offshore Wind. The appointments will take effect on 1 April, 2018, and are made in accordance with the joint venture agreement's principle of changing its leadership every four years. First Dividend from Nordex Likely

German wind turbine maker Nordex is mulling paying a dividend for the first time since listing on the stock exchange as part of efforts to create a long-term investor base, its chief financial officer told a German newspaper. "We will think about it but I cannot already today promise a dividend," Bernard Schaeferbarthold told Boersen-Zeitung newspaper in an interview published on Saturday. Nordex, which is part-owned by Germany's richest woman Susanne Klatten, wants a stable base of long-term investors, Schaeferbarthold said. "Dividends could help us in that regard," he said. Nordex has not paid a dividend since it floated on the stock exchange in 2001.

Nordex Wins Turkish Turbine Contract

Nordex has received a further contract from the Turkish customer Erdem Holding. The manufacturer will deliver of 20 N117/2400 turbines for the “Bagarasi” wind farm. The order also includes a premium-service contract for a minimum period of five years. “Bagarasi” is located in Aydin, 90 kilometres south east of Izmir, close to the Aegan coast of Turkey. At its altitude of up to 800 metres, mean annual wind speeds are what by Turkish standards is a low 6.6 m/s. Accordingly, the N117/2400 turbine is to be used. With its design, this turbine is specifically configured for locations with light average wind speeds. Nordex will be supplying the turbines on towers with a hub height of 91 metres.

Wind turbine maker Nordex turns corner in overhaul

Shares rise 4.6 percent to top TecDAX. German wind turbine maker Nordex on Friday said it had swung to an operating profit last year, boosted by stronger demand in its core European market as well as cost cuts after shutting down production in China and the United States. Nordex said its earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) reached 44.3 million euros ($60.6 million) in 2013, up from a loss of 61.1 million euros in 2012. Sales grew a third to 1.429 billion euros, the group said. Analysts had, on average, expected an EBIT of 46.9 million euros on sales of 1.417 billion. German Greens Cool on Sustainable Energy Subsidy Cuts

The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, has agreed to proposals to curb aid for new onshore projects to cut the cost of the country’s unprecedented switch from nuclear energy to renewables. The output energy goal for sea-based wind farms is also to be cut to 6.5 gigawatts by 2020 and 15 gigawatts by 2030, from 10 gigawatts and 25 gigawatts, respectively, reports Bloomberg. Germany plans to reduce the cost of renewable power after deciding to close down its nuclear plants by 2022.
