Maritime Consolidation: Palfinger Aims to Acquire Harding

As maritime markets continue to struggle, merger and acquisition activity should heat up. Today, Austria's Palfinger Group announced that it intends to acquire 100% of the shares in Herkules Harding Holding AS and thus, the globally operating Harding Group. The seller is the Norwegian private equity fund Herkules. Harding is a leading suppliers of lifesaving equipment and lifecycle services for maritime installations and ships. Through this acquisition, PALFINGER will add new products and an international service network to its marine business.

Styrk Bekkenes Named CEO of Harding

Since new owners took over Schat-Harding and Noreq in June, Styrk Bekkenes, chief executive of Noreq, has been appointed CEO of Harding – a new large joint company for the development and production of life-saving equipment. Harding will have more than 900 employees in 30 different locations worldwide. Its head office will be at Seimsfoss in Kvinnherad. The new owners, spearheaded by the investment fund Herkules, wish to further develop the best life-saving equipment from Schat-Harding and Noreq.

PaxOcean Contracts Noreq for Lifesaving Boat Package

PaxOcean Engineering in Singapore recently awarded Noreq the contract for the delivery of a full lifesaving package for two semi-submersible accommodation rigs. The contract is for eight lifeboats and davits and one fast rescue boat and davit per rig. PaxOcean consists of six shipyards in Asia offering Ship repair, conversion, offshore vessel newbuilding and rigs construction services. In 2012, Pacc Offshore Services Holdings (POSH) awarded PaxOcean the contract for conversion of one unit well intervention vessels to a high specification DP3 Semi-Submersible Accommodation Vessel (SSAV).

Herkules Acquires Umoe Schat-Harding and Noreq

On Monday, June 10, Herkules signed an agreement to acquire Umoe Schat-Harding AS. The acquisition is being carried out in cooperation with the owners of Noreq AS, who, in parallel, are selling Noreq to Herkules and reinvesting a substantial amount in a new, joint holding company. The transactions are expected to be finalized the first half of July. The intention with the acquisition is to build on Schat-Harding's and Noreq's strong market positions in the new combined company. For 2013 the companies expect total revenues of approximately NOK 1.2 billion.

Nominees Announced For Three Nor-Shipping Awards

Nor-Shipping announced the nominees for the 2013 Nor-Shipping Awards which recognize achievements in three different areas – energy efficiency, innovative ship design and young entrepreneurship. HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway will present the awards when they are announced at the Opening Conference on June 4. The Energy Efficiency Award (previously Clean Ship Award) pays tribute to the ship with the greatest contribution towards energy efficiency in relation to its function or operation.

Noreq Cranes for German Offshore Wind Farm

Noreq to deliver Wind Turbine Platform Cranes (WTPC) for use on the Borkum Riffgrund 1 offshore wind farm. The contract is with DONG Energy, a company Noreq has worked with before on other offshore wind farm installations. Two private investors, KIRKBI – the parent company of the LEGO Group – and William Demant Invest, are also involved as owners. DONG Energy will build the Borkum Riffgrund 1 wind farm, (located approx. 55 km off the north-west coast of Germany) in the German sector of the North Sea.

Noreq Cranes for Offshore Wind Farms

Noreq’s Danish subsidiary, NoreqActa, has been awarded the contract for 108 pieces WTPC’s (Wind Turbine Platform Cranes) to be placed on the West of Duddon Sands (WODS) offshore wind farm. The West of Duddon Sands wind farm is a joint venture between Scottish Power Renewables and Danish company DONG Energy. The total capacity of the farm after start up will be 389 MW. West of Duddon Sands is located next to two other offshore wind farms by DONG Energy, Walney 1 and 2 where NoreqActa also delivered the WTPC’s. The farms are all located in the Irish Sea.

Big Rig Orders to Noreq

During recent weeks, Noreq has been awarded several major contracts with Asian yards. Both Korea and Singapore is growing to be very important markets for Noreq. Some weeks back it was made official that Noreq was awarded the contract for Lifeboat packages for Maersk drillships being built with Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea. This week, even more rig orders have been landed by Noreq. At Jurong Shipyard in Singapore, Noreq has been awarded the lifesaving package for 8 plus 6 optional Jack Up rigs they are building for Seadrill and Noble Drilling.

SHI Awards Noreq Largest Ever Contract

Noreq won the contract for Lifeboats, davits, Fast Rescue Boat and Rescue boat davit for the six drill ships Maersk Drilling are building with Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea. The contract is valid for all drill ships and is consisting of 6pcs 80-persons lifeboats together with belonging davit and one fast rescue boat with davit for each ship. Noreq AS Creates Subsidiary in Dubai

Noreq AS continues to expand. The increasing demand for our products has resulted in a new company etablishment, NOREQ FZE, a subsidiary with an office in Dubai - the most important business and financial center in the Arab world. Noreq has been represented in UAE for several years by Mr. Chacko John. He is now permanently employed in Noreq, and he looks forward to serve ship owners, yards, consultants and the offshore industry with deck equipment from Noreq. “It is a great pleasure to introduce our new office in a market with such great activity. Noreq AS Acquires Bergen Group Idntækni

Noreq AS has acquired the Icelandic company Bergen Group Idntækni, which it will rename Alu1. Idntækni is a technology-based company with a work force of highly qualified engineers. The company is specialized within the aluminum industry, and is known for its consultative work as well as its own products. Idntækni has been in operation for nearly 25 years, and was formerly owned by Bergen Group Technology. The group behind Alu1 has experience within the aluminum industry and its goals are high for further product development and growth on Iceland. The shareholders are also planning to take advantage of the Icelandic personnel for ongoing projects in Norway. Due to lack of engineers in Norway, this acquisition comes at the right time.

Noreq AS acquires Acta AS

Maritime supplier, Noreq announced the acquisition of Acta in Denmark. Since 1955, Acta has been a supplier of offshore marine cranes, life raft- and MOB davits as well as deck machinery. Acta is the only crane manufacturer in the world having CE marking on offshore cranes for wind power installations off shore. Noreq Orders Worth $3.5M

Noreq AS has seen several new contracts signed, worth a total of $3.5m, in the last few weeks. In addition to the size of these contracts Noreq is happy to announce that we have managed to enter new important markets. - We have won a contract of enormous importance with world's biggest shipyard, Hyundai, in Korea. This is really a milestone for Noreq, and shows that the development of our new davit system has been a right initiative. Hyundai has ordered four lifeboats and four sets with rig davits.

Noreq - Bergen Group Dreggen Join Forces in Brazil

The two Norwegian companies, Noreq and Bergen Group Dreggen have recently established their office in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Both the companies are well known as suppliers of quality marine equipment to both the offshore and shipping industry world-wide. The increasing activity and the development of new fields in Brazil have lead to a greater demand for the equipment in question and this have now resulted in the establishment of our local office. This will gain our ability to better serve existing and new clients in the area.

Noreq Aids Greek Cruise Ship

On August 7, the cruise ship Thomson Spirit collided with another cruise ship, Ocean Majesty - on the Geirangerfjord in Norway. A lifeboat and the davit for a tender vessel were damaged which resulted in Ocean Majesty being refused permission to continue its cruise. No passengers or crew were injured. Noreq AS, a Norwegian manufacturer and equipment supplier, helped the Greek shipping company. A temporary solution was found in record time, and the ship was allowed to continue its voyage to Iceland. The solution was to installa new life-raft davit, ensuring the necessary safety until the shipping company is able to repair or replace the damaged lifeboat and davits.
