China Navigation Company Opens Shanghai HQ

Swire Group’s shipping arm China Navigation Company establishes presence in Shanghai where it was founded 147 years ago!The China Navigation Company (CNCo) opened its China headquarters officially in Shanghai on 05 November 2018, marking a significant return to its birthplace 147 years ago, and a significant milestone in its history, said a press release from the company.CNCo started operations on the Yangtze River in 1872, operating a modest fleet of Mississippi-style paddle steamers.CNCo is a major global player in the shipping scene today, with operations spanning Australia, China, PNG, Fiji, India, New Zealand and the US. Launceston Deploys North

Australia's Armidale class patrol boat HMAS Launceston has tested trainees and strengthened regional relationships in a recent deployment to south-east Asia. Launceston departed Australia after sailing from Darwin on 10 March in-company with sister-ship HMAS Pirie. The crews conducted 25mm, 12.7mm and small arms firing serials and undertook close quarters steaming, internal damage control, boat drills and communications training to help their junior warfare officers to practice their mariner skills. Upon completion Pirie commenced border protection duties in Australia's northern waters, whilst Launceston continued north to the Indonesian archipelago through the Sape Strait between the islands of Subawa and Komodo pasing an active volcano.

New Chair for Townsville Port

The Palaszczuk Government has appointed one of Queensland’s most respected businesswomen, Renita Garard as the new Chair of the Port of Townsville. In a statement released earlier today, Acting Premier Curtis Pitt said that Ms Garard was being appointed at a pivotal time in Port of Townsville Limited’s (POTL) 150 year history, as it embarks upon a strategically important phase of growth and expansion. “Ms Garard brings a wealth of commercial and leadership experience to the Board, having provided financial and taxation advisory services through senior roles with leading professional services firms for more than fifteen years,” Mr Pitt said. “She is currently a Director with PwC Australia, LifeTec and Northern Australia Primary Health.

Defence ties between Australia and Indonesia enhanced by the biennial patrol boat exercise CASSOWARY. Royal Australian Navy Armidale Class Patrol Boats HMA Ships Ararat and Larrakia joined with Indonesian Armed Forces patrol boats KRI Kakap and KRI Tongkol for the exercise off Darwin, North Australia.
