Scotland Site for World's Biggest Tidal Array

The world’s biggest tidal array is to be built in North Scotland bringing jobs and energy security to the Pentland Firth region, informs a UK Government news release. The Government has provided £10 million worth of grant funding to the Meygen project, which will provide enough electricity to power 175,000 homes and provide up to 100 jobs when fully completed. Other funders include the Scottish Government, and The Crown Estate. The £51m scheme could inspire further projects in the Pentland Firth - helping to provide clean, sustainable and secure energy and jobs for the local community for decades to come. “The project also shows what can be done when the UK and Scottish Governments work together to provide a lasting benefit for the people of Scotland.

NorSea Group Adds U.K. GM

Kim Christensen, NorSea’s new General Manager in the U.K.

NorSea Group, a supplier of base services and integrated logistics systems to the oil and gas industry in Norway, appointed Kim Christensen as its first U.K. General Manager to lead the group’s future developments in Scotland. Mr. Christensen will head up NorSea Group (U.K.) Ltd, a new company within the Group, which has been established to reinforce the Group’s commitment to enhance its business activity in the U.K. To support this, NorSea Group will open its first U.K. office in Aberdeen.

Energy North Launches First Annual Energy North Awards

Energy North, formerly North Scotland Industries Group (NSIG), is launching the first annual Energy North Awards to celebrate energy in Scotland. The 130-plus member organization’s awards will recognize contribution to developing the energy industry in the Highlands and Islands region made by suppliers, brokers, product manufacturers, experts and consultants working in the oil and gas, fossil based energy, renewables or the nuclear industry. The inaugural black tie ceremony will be held at Drumossie Hotel in Inverness on Thursday, September 29, 2011.

Event Highlights Opportunities In Marine Energy For North Companies

Businesses will have the chance to learn more about the marine energy opportunities for the Orkney and Pentland Firth waters at an event in Caithness on Tuesday 5 April. Organised jointly by North Scotland Industries Group (NSIG), Caithness Chamber of Commerce, Orkney Islands Council, The Crown Estate and Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), the event is open to members and non-members and will be held at North Highland College, Thurso from 10am to 4.30pm. John Thurso MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross will be the keynote speaker.
