German Wind Sector Welcomes Offshore Terminal Funding

The German Offshore Wind Energy Foundation said the government's decision to help fund the expansion of an offshore terminal is important to achieve expansion goals for wind energy at sea.In a statement late Friday, the foundation said it welcomed a government move to contribute to the costs of expanding the terminal at the port of Cuxhaven, on the North Sea coast.The government has agreed to finance the 30-hectare (74 acres) expansion of the offshore terminal, together with the state of Lower Saxony and the private port industry

Neste Offers LSFO in Germany

Finland’s oil refiner Neste Corporation has made low-sulphur fuel oil (LSFO)available in Bremerhaven, Germany in response to the upcoming IMO 2020 global regulation.Neste and the German BMT Bunker und Mineralöltransport GmbH have signed a partner agreement concerning distribution and sales of Neste MarineTM 0.5. This new marine fuel, containing maximum 0.5% sulphur, has been available in Bremerhaven, Germany, since the beginning of November 2019. Uniper Sees Merit in Building LNG Terminal at Wilhelmshaven

Wärtsilä Opening ‘Digital Acceleration Centers’

Wärtsilä has set out to accelerate new business ideas using a collection of “Digital Acceleration Centers” (DAC) scattered around the globe. The first DAC in Helsinki has been running in beta for several months and was officially launched today, and will be followed by the second to open in Singapore in December, as well as one in Central Europe and one in North America anticipated during 2018. Additional “pop-up” DACs will be tested with customers at other locations. Wärtsilä said opening the DACs is part of its digital transformation, which aims to help the company shift toward a data-driven, insights led, smart technology. Wärtsilä Tests Remote Control Ship Operating Capability

Wärtsilä said it has taken a further important step toward developing its Smart Marine capabilities by successfully testing the remote control of ship operations. The testing, which involved driving the vessel through a sequence of manoeuvres using a combination of Dynamic Positioning (DP) and manual joystick control, was carried out on August 21 off the North Sea coast of Scotland in collaboration with Gulfmark Offshore, the U.S. based operator who provided the vessel for the project.

United European Car Carriers (UECC), which is jointly owned by Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) and Wallenius Lines, held a naming ceremony for the M/V Auto Eco, a s historic ship in that it is the first of two dual fuel LNG PCTCs with 1A Super Finnish/Swedish ice class. The world’s first dual fuel LNG PCTC M/V Auto Eco had her formal naming ceremony at the Port of Zeebrugge, Belgium on November 21, 2016.

Statoil Picks MacGregor Mooring Systems for Hywind

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has won an order for substructure connection mooring systems for the world's first floating offshore wind farm: Statoil's Hywind pilot park in Scotland. MacGregor will be responsible for the delivery of the Pusnes substructure mooring connection system for the pilot project's five floating wind turbines. Delivery of equipment is planned from the second through the fourth quarter of 2016 and installation of the wind turbines is scheduled for 2017. "This contract represents a step change for MacGregor in terms of entering a new industry sector," says Jan Martin Grindheim, Director, Sales and Business Development, MacGregor Offshore Mooring Systems. "The project hinges on applying proven technology in new applications.

On her maiden voyage in the AEX1 service, China Shipping Container Lines’ containership CSCL Globe, currently the world’s largest container vessel, moored at Belgium's Port of Zeebrugge after embarking on its first voyage in China last December. The CSCL Globe, which measures 400 meters in length and approximately 59 meters wide, features a maximum capacity of 19,100 TEUs. Lining the containers up in a row would result in a container chain of 115 kilometers. The continuously growing dimensions in shipping allow freight to be transported more economically.

Siemens to Supply Eighty N. Sea Wind Turbines

Siemens contracted by Germany's wpd group to supply & install 80 wind turbines for the Butendiek offshore wind power plant. The agreement also covers a long-term maintenance contract for a period of ten years, the first of its kind for an offshore wind project. Siemens is to provide a new logistics concept that includes a service operation vessel specially developed for deployments to offshore wind facilities. The order volume including service is more than EUR 700-million. When the Butendiek offshore wind power plant off Germany's North Sea coast comes online in 2015

Dutch shipbuilding and repair company Damen Shipyards Group has taken over the shares of Swedish shiprepair and maintenance yard Oskarshamnsvarvetin Oskarshamn. The acquisition was prepared in close cooperation with the owners and includes the full continuation of the repair yard, both as to current operations and personnel. Oskarshamnsvarvet is a shiprepair yard on the south-east coast of Sweden. It is specialized in the maintenance and repair of vessels up to 80 m and has built, repaired and maintained a substantial part of the Swedish coastal fleet since 1863. Apart from a floating dock, the company operates a slipway covered by a portal crane of 100 tons.

Largest Container Ship at Zeebrugge Port

While on her maiden voyage in the AEX1 service, the container vessel China Shipping Container Lines Globe, currently the world’s - or the “globe’s”- largest container vessel, moored at the port of Zeebrugge. The ship embarked on its first voyage in China last December. The CSCL Globe measures 400 meters in length and is approximately 59 meters wide. Its stunning maximum capacity is 19.100 twenty feet equivalent units. Lining the containers up in a row would result in a container chain of 115 kilometers. The Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea will be delivering four sister vessels in the course of the year. The continuously growing dimensions in shipping allow freight to be transported more economically.
