Konecranes Port Services, the team of crane and lifting engineers, software developers and product technicians, will retrofit electrification to a Model 2 Konecranes Gottwald Mobile Harbor crane in DP World’s Liège Container Terminal in Belgium, lowering the terminal’s local emissions and noise.The Port of Liège, strategically located along the Meuse river in eastern Belgium,  is the third-largest river port in Europe, directly linked to both Antwerp and Rotterdam.The DP World Liège Container Terminal (DPW LCT) is the only trimodal terminal in Wallonia, operating four barges to Antwerp every week.The Konecranes Gottwald Model 2 Mobile Harbor Crane was purchased in 2016 and has been working at DPW LCT’s South Terminal.

Today at Gondan Shipyard in Figueras, at high tide, the second Dual Fuel tug ever built in Europe – and the second of a series of three currently under construction for the Norwegian shipowner Østensjø Rederi - has been successfully launched. Designed by the Canadian company Robert Allan, the new escort tug, with 40.2 meters length and 16 meter beam, will provide tug services to Norwegian state-owned energy company Statoil, at the far-north terminal located at Melkøya. Built to withstand freezing cold, the vessel is shaped specifically to grant full operational availability at temperatures of 20ºC below zero and combines environmental sustainability trough the use of LNG in most of its operations, with the flexibility of diesel power to ensure a high level of operational security.

Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound Command Center was notified at approximately 5:20 p.m., via VHF Channel 16, that a 38-foot pleasure craft was tipped over with the motor still running and six mariners in the water just south of the Greenport Ferry North Terminal. Petty Officer 3rd Class Patrick O’Halloran, 27, a boatswain’s mate at Station Chatham, was nearby on a private vessel and was the first on scene just 4 minutes later, to assist the mariners out of the water. “I’ve been in the Coast Guard for three years and it was unreal watching this happen in front of me,” said O’Halloran, a Shelter Island, N.Y., native. “I realized I needed to make sure they were safe and that the boat was away.

APM Terminals Callao invests US$307-million for Phase l & ll port expansion. Executives from APM Terminals Callao and the Minister of Transport and Communications of Peru, Mr. Carlos Paredes were on hand to start the demolition of Patio Guadalupe – an old, abandoned train station to pave the way for a port modernization project vital to Peru’s economic growth. The train station demolition and port construction project will create 600 new jobs in the community over the next two years. APM Terminals to grant USD$3-million for development of a new modern commercial fishing terminal at the Port of Callao, Peru. The local fishing industry had been concerned about potential displacement with the ongoing construction of a new expanded cargo facility at the port. The recently signed agreement clears a potential obstacle for the scheduled development and expansion of the port’s North Terminal, now operated as APM Terminals Callao. The Callao fishing fleet is comprised of approximately 400 fishing ships, which will now receive improved anchorage and support facilities distanced from the large commercial vessels calling the adjacent new container quay called for in the first phase of the North Terminal expansion project.

The Hanjin Oslo sailed into the harbor of Pusan Newport becoming the first container vessel to arrive at the new Mega Hub. The 279 meter vessel’s arrival was a commemorative event carrying 45 distinguished passengers on a short voyage from the old Busan port to the new state-of-the-art Pusan Newport facility. Passengers included the Minister of Maritime and Fisheries (MOMAF), the President of Busan Port Authority, PNC executives, Pilot Association President, Tugboat Association President, Busan Port Union President, National Maritime Union President and other government officials. The Hanjin Oslo arrived carrying guest in order to showcase the harbour and facility which is engineered for safe and efficient vessel navigation.
