Mozambique: Ferry Carrying Survivors from Deadly Militant Attack on Gas Town Arrives in Pemba

A boat carrying more than 1,000 survivors of a highly organized, deadly attack by Islamic State-linked insurgents in northern Mozambique arrived in the port of Pemba on Thursday, a Reuters reporter and a diplomatic source said.Aid workers were at the crowded port to give food to those disembarking from the green and white ferry, while police and soldiers kept control of crowds of people excited to see their relatives rescued after the attack that began last week in Palma, the reporter said.Islamist insurgents have been increasingly active in the surrounding province of Cabo Delgado since 2017…

Insurgents Seize Port Near Total's Mozambique LNG Project

Islamist insurgents have captured a heavily-defended port in the far northern Mozambique town of Mocimboa da Praia, close to the site of natural gas projects worth some $60 billion, local media reported on Wednesday.It was one of several attacks on the town - 60 km (37 miles) south of the projects being developed by oil majors like France's Total - this year as insurgents with links to Islamic State have stepped up attacks in the region.

MSC Sinfonia Kicks Off SA's Cruise Season

The South African 2016/17 cruise season kicked off this morning with the arrival of the first international cruise liner, MSC SINFONIA, at the Port of Durban. Carrying a full capacity of 2600 European and South African passengers, the vessel arrived from Venice in Italy and was greeted by the traditional welcome including a tug water spraying drill, as well as marimba bands and traditional dancers. The ship also received a warm Durban welcome from senior officials including KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Sihle Zikalala, Her Worship the Mayor of eThekwini, Councillor Zandile Gumede, representatives of the maritime and tourism industries and Transnet National Ports Authority’s leadership team.

KOTUG Begins Operations in Mozambique

KOTUG Mozambique has begun exclusive port and terminal towage services with two Rotortugs in the new port of Nacala-a-Velha in northern Mozambique for Nacala Development Corridor (CDN), effective May 5, 2016. The RT Magic and RT Spirit welcomed the largest bulk carrier Shining Dragon, to assist her safely to her berth. The Rotortugs, pioneered by KOTUG and featuring three separate azimuth propulsion units to provide improved vessel safety, power and maneuverability, were selected by CDN to optimize turn-around time and to have minimum tugs needed per ship assistance.

Keel Laid in S. Korea for 1,200-passenger Vessel

The keel of the 1,200 passenger vessel designed by the engineering and technology group SENER was recently laid in the Factory No. 2 of POSCO PLANTEC, in Ulsan, South Korea. SENER said its representatives attended to the keel laying ceremony, which was presided by members of the Zanzibar’s Government, the owner of the vessel. The ship will operate in Northern Mozambique, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Tanga and Mombasa. Sener Signs a Contract With Posco Plantec

The contract for the design of a 1,200 passenger vessel was signed between Sener and Posco Plantec  (part of the South Korean group POSCO Family) in Madrid on June 13, 2013. The vessel is to be build and designed for the following operational areas: Northern Mozambique, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Tanga and Mombasa. The scope of the project to be developed by Sener includes conceptual and classification engineering and the 3D model to extract the production information, and is going to be developed with the 3D CAD system Foran, developed by Sener.

Fugro Performs Largest UAV Survey for Offshore Industry Yet

The largest AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) survey in the oil and gas industry comprises a core element in two contracts awarded to Fugro that also include metocean measurements and geohazard consultancy services for ENI East Africa. he data is being acquired for the Area 4 Rovuma basin development offshore northern Mozambique. The challenging AUV survey is the largest ever commissioned and one of the first in this new and remote frontier area off the coast of East Africa.
