US Navy Upgrades Mine Hunting Capabilities

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) delivered the first of three lots of mine hunting sonar upgrade kits to the U.S. Navy’s Naval Surface Warfare Center, Panama City Division. The ultimate end users will be the HM-12, -14 and -15 Mine Countermeasures Squadrons. The production contracts from the Navy’s PMS-495 are for upgrading 27 AQS-24A mine hunting systems into the more advanced AQS-24B system. The kits contain all the components necessary to upgrade the existing 27 AQS-24A mine hunting systems into the more advanced AQS-24B system. Work is being done in three production lots.

US Navy Shipboard Networking Milestone Complete

Northrop Grumman Corporation informs it has completed the Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) program's design, development and limited deployment phase for the U.S. Navy. CANES is a programmatic and technical consolidation of five legacy shipboard network programs. CANES provides a modern, common computing environment across the fleet to upgrade cybersecurity, command and control, communications and intelligence (C4I) and streamline logistics. Since winning the contract for the design and limited-production run for CANES in early 2012, Northrop Grumman has delivered 37 shipsets for various ship classes. The company leveraged its cyber expertise to ensure cyber-robust CANES systems.

Northrop Grumman VMS Approved for US Navy Subs

Northrop Grumman's Voyage Management System approved for use on U.S. The U.S. Navy has approved the use of Northrop Grumman Corporation's Voyage Management System (VMS), version 9.3, onboard SSN and SSGN nuclear powered submarines. The VMS software package will be installed on 55 SSNs and four SSGNs operating globally from all U.S. Navy submarine homeports. Installations have already begun and will be completed by the end of 2016. Version 9.3 which supports polar operations has significantly increased rendering speeds, integrates seamlessly with combat radar and mission planning submarine systems and allows for real-time checking of installed charts.

Northrop Grumman Navigation Systems for Canadian Navy

Northrop Grumman Corporation's Sperry Marine business unit has been selected to design and supply gyrocompass navigation systems for 12  Kingston Class coastal defence vessels for the Royal Canadian Navy, as a subcontractor to SNC-Lavalin Defence Programs Inc. The contract will include Dual NAVIGAT X MK1 gyrocompass systems, NAVITWIN IV Heading Management Systems and a complete suite of Heading Repeaters. Northrop Grumman to Deliver Navy LCS Mission Packages

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NOC) has received a $21.6 million contract from the U.S. Navy for two additional Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) mission packages  As the mission package integrator, the company will deliver one mission package for surface warfare and one for mine countermeasures. The capabilities contained in the various mission modules directly support the three LCS primary missions – surface warfare, mine countermeasures and antisubmarine warfare. Mission modules facilitate modular mission package embarkation, mission package operations at-sea, and debarkation / logistics support. Northrop Grumman has delivered three mine countermeasures and three surface warfare mission modules for LCS.

Northrop Grumman Sponsors Jubilee Sailing Trust

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) is among the sponsors of  the Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST), a registered charity whose mission is to promote the integration of people of all physical abilities, including injured and recovering servicemen and women, through the challenge and adventure of tall ship sailing. As part of its sponsorship, Northrop Grumman's Sperry Marine business unit replaced the navigational electronics on the Lord Nelson, one of JST's two tall ships. This update included the main gyro compass system originally fitted in 1985. Since the JST was established in 1978, they have welcomed more than 40,000 people on board, of whom 15,000 have had a disability and 5,500 have been wheelchair users.

Northrop Grumman, Carisbrooke Renew Service Contract

Northrop Grumman Corporation has renewed its service agreement with U.K.-based Carisbrooke Shipping Limited. The contract will cover spares and labor for navigation systems, communication equipment and voyage data recorders onboard the 23 vessels, which include 6,000-, 8,000- and 12,500- Dead Weight Tonnage bulkers. Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine has supplied gyro compasses, autopilots, speed logs, radar and Electronic Chart Display Information Systems (ECDIS) to these vessels. "This contract furthers the relationships between Carisbrooke and Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine," said John Fletcher, global service manager, Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine.

Leavitt tapped to head Northrop Grumman Maritime Systems Business

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) named Todd Leavitt, vice president of the company's Maritime Systems business unit, effective immediately. Leavitt will have executive responsibility for all Maritime Systems programs and products. He will lead all domestic and international programs within the Maritime Systems business area to include naval radars, electronic warfare capabilities, navigation systems, machinery controls, and power and control systems. Leavitt joined the company in 2007 as manager, Surface Navy Futures. In 2010, he was appointed director, Maritime Sensors and Shipboard Integration, and served in that role until his present appointment. Prior to joining Northrop Grumman, Leavitt served 21 years as a surface warfare officer in the U.S.

Mine Detection Robot Performs in Bahrain

As the demand for naval technology rapidly escalates globally, the Middle East remains a hotspot for investment and innovation. To this end, Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC), in support of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command in Manama, Bahrain, announced the successful demonstration of an unmanned mine-hunting mission. In the demonstration, the Mine Hunting Unmanned Surface Vehicle (MHU) was used in tandem with Northrop Grumman's AQS-24A Mine Detecting Sensor System in the Arabian Gulf.

Northrop Grumman Corporation announced that its latest VisionMaster FT (VMFT) software now includes ADMIRALTY Information Overlay (AIO) as an integral element of its Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) based navigation system making additional chart information available to ship’s navigators. In the past, navigators have relied on the ADMIRALTY Temporary and Preliminary Notices to Mariners (T&P NMs) to manually update their paper charts. AIO is a free service included with the ADMIRALTY Vector Chart Service (AVCS).

Remotec Awarded US Navy Repair Contract

The U.S. Navy has awarded Northrop Grumman Corporation subsidiary Remotec Inc. an $8.8 million contract to repair and upgrade 103 MK3 Series Remote Ordnance Neutralizations Systems (RONS), increasing the capabilities and availability of the explosive ordnance disposal robots. The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division, Indian Head, Maryland, awarded Remotec a sole-source, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract (IDIQ), which has a potential value of more than $12 million if contract options are exercised.

Northrop Grumman Corporation recently presented the 2014 Elmer A. Sperry Junior Navigator of the Year Award for 2014 to Midshipman Robert Francisco Yerkes-Medina in ceremonies at the U.S. Naval Academy. The award recognizes a member of the graduating class who has demonstrated outstanding navigation skills and knowledge during his or her four years at the academy and is part of a naval support tradition at Northrop Grumman. This is the fifth year the company has sponsored the award.

Northrop Grumman, US Navy Conduct Successful Simultaneous Tests

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) and the U.S. Navy successfully flew the unmanned MQ-8B Fire Scout simultaneously with the MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter for the first time. The capability demonstrates how a mix of aircraft can increase a ship commander's intelligence-gathering capabilities aboard the Littoral Combat Ship. The flight tests took place May 12, aboard the USS Freedom (LCS 1) off the coast of San Diego. Fire Scout complements the Sea Hawk because it can fly longer to maintain constant surveillance on a target or area of interest.

Northrop Grumman Turbine Generators Selected for USN ORP

Northrop Grumman selected to provide turbine generator units for U.S. Northrop Grumman Corporation announced it has been awarded a contract by shipbuilder General Dynamics Electric Boat to complete detailed design and subsequent manufacturing, assembly, qualification and delivery of the first turbine generator units for the Ohio Replacement Program (ORP), the U.S. Navy's next-generation ballistic nuclear submarine. The turbine generators provide all of the submarine's propulsion and other electrical power requirements.

CANES Sets Sail Aboard USS McCampbell

The U.S. Navy and Northrop Grumman Corporation have installed Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) on the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS McCampbell. The installation was completed during the ship's approximate five-month scheduled maintenance at U.S. Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan. Prior to installation, Northrop Grumman produced, integrated and tested the CANES system and delivered it for acceptance to the Tactical Networks Program Office, Program Executive Office of Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I).
