DNV Certifies NYK's Online Cargo-handling Training

On February 3, NYK released the NYK Group ESG Story,*** which aims to further accelerate the integration of ESG into the company’s management strategy. This online cargo-handling training achieves this ambition. To strongly promote ESG management, NYK is encouraging new value creation as a sustainable solution provider.

Cargo-handling simulator training for liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers and oil tankers conducted by NYK SHIPMANAGEMENT PTE LTD (NYKSM) in an online environment has been certified classification association DNV.The DNV certification confirms that the training content follows the guidelines provided in the IMO model courses and that the training is conducted effectively. NYK Inks Charter Deal for Pair of Methanol-fueled Chem Tankers

NYK Bulkship (Asia) Pte. Ltd., an NYK Group company based in Singapore, signed a long-term time charter contract with Waterfront Shipping Company Limited (WFS) for two newly built chemical carriers, each equipped with a dual-fuel engine that enables the vessels to be powered not only by marine fuel oil but also methanol.Planned for delivery from the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (Korea) in 2022, the vessels will be delivered to WFS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Methanex Corporation, the world’s largest producer and supplier of methanol.

NYK Conducts Crisis-response Drill with ONE

Japanese shipping line Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) conducted a crisis-response drill based on the scenario of a serious fire occurring on a containership operated by Ocean Network Express  (ONE), an integrated global container shipping company headquartered in Singapore.The drill scenario had a fire breaking out inside a containership while the ship was at Tokyo’s Oi Container Terminal.The drill continued with an assumed explosion followed by fire-fighting, rescue of the injured, and evacuation of neighborhoods. The drill had the vessel managed by NYK Shipmanagement Pte. Ltd. (NYKSM), an NYK Group company.A total of 60 related parties from NYK, NYKSM, ONE’s headquarters in Singapore, and ONE’s Japan branch participated in the drill.

ClassNK Issues First Approval for Maritime Training

NYK Shipmanagement ECDIS course first to be recognized by top class society. ClassNK issued its first approval for maritime training programs to an Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) course offered by NYK Shipmanagement Pte. Ltd. (NYKSM). The approval of the course, which certifies that the course fulfills International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards, follows ClassNK’s entry into the training program certification field as part of a broader expansion of the classification society’s activities announced earlier this year.
