Green Yard Kleven Lands Another Retrofit Project with Brazilian Offshore Vessel Owner

Norwegian shipyard Green Yard Kleven AS has secured a retrofit project with Brazilian offshore vessel owner Oceanica.This is the fourth contract signed with the same shipowner that includes the reactivation and rebuilding of offshore ships bought from Norwegian shipowners.The vessel, named Oceanicasub X, is a 78-meter anchor handling vessel which will be rebuilt for operations off the coast of Brazil. The vessel has already arrived at Green Yard Kleven.The contract comes after the recent delivery of Oceanicasub VIII and Oceanicasub IX from the same shipowner, Brazilian Oceanica.

Green Yard Kleven to Refit Two Oceanica PSVs

Green Yard Kleven in Norway said it has signed a contract with Brazilian shipowner Oceanica to convert two platform supply vessels (PSV) for operations with remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROV) and offshore crane.The two ships, both Marin Teknikk MT6009 design, have recently been purchased by Oceanica. One is already at Green Yard Kleven, and the other will arrive at the shipyard in the next few days. The retrofit is scheduled to be completed toward the end of the year, and work will start immediately.After the conversion, the ships will operate in Brazil in deep water.

Dive Support Vessel Delivered in Brazil

Oceanicasub V, the second of a pair of 43m Monohull Subsea Dive Support Vessels (SDSV), has been delivered for owner and operater Oceanica of Rio de Janeiro for charter by Petrobras. Oceanicasub V was constructed by Arpoador Shipyard in Guaruja’, Brazil. The design is the culmination of a close collaboration by the designer Incat Crowther, builder and operator. The RINA-classed vessel is equipped for a crew complement of 36 and features an array of dive support equipment including deck crane, ROV A-frame, dive bell A-frame, hyperbaric chamber, HIPAP, rescue/workboat with associated davit and all necessary dive operations related spaces and equipment.

BMT – DoT Partnership Extended

BMT JFA Consultants, together with sister company BMT Oceanica, subsidiaries of BMT Group (BMT), have announced that the Western Australian Department of Transport (DoT) has taken up the Contract option to extend its current contract for a further two years. BMT will continue to provide a range of project management services for the Department from the early stage review of hydrographic survey data to assess the maintenance dredging requirements, through to the project planning process leading to the management of the project execution and site supervision.

New 43m DSVs Designed by Incat Crowther

A pair of 43m Monohull Dive Support Vessels has been designed by Incat Crowther, with input from the builder and operator, to meet RINA class requirements for special service, diving and dynamic positioning. The vessels are currently under construction at Arpoadar Engenharia, in Guaruja, Brazil and will be delivered to Oceanica Offshore for service in Brazil with Petrobras. The aft main deck features a large working deck to house the Hyperbaric Chamber, Dive Bell Crane, Portside Deck Crane and ROV Crane.

BMT Oceanica Wins APPEA Study

Marine and coastal environment specialist, BMT Oceanica (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, has been awarded the Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association’s (APPEA) “Understanding the Risks of Unplanned Discharges” study. BMT Oceanica will be working with Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) to deliver this key project which will update current knowledge on the potential environmental impacts of unplanned releases of hydrocarbons and other chemicals into the marine environment. Phase one of the project is already underway and includes an international scientific review and the development of vulnerability assessment model that will help APPEA members enhance environmental and oil spill response plans.

BMT Oceanica Is Lead Consultant for Australia Aquaculture Development Zone

Marine and coastal environment specialists, BMT Oceanica (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, announced today its appointment as Lead Consultant for the Western Australia Department of Fisheries (DoF) in a project to establish an aquaculture development zone. BMT Oceanica, in partnership with BMT WBM and the University of Western Australia, will play a key role in the strategic assessment of the proposed Mid West aquaculture development zone in the southern Abrolhos Islands, off the west coast of Australia. As part of the Western Australia Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process, a number of technical studies need to be conducted.

Marine Fauna Research Project: Pluton Enlists BMT

Marine and coastal environment specialists, BMT Oceanica (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, has commenced its latest project with Pluton Resources Ltd (Pluton) to increase knowledge of marine fauna around the Irvine and Cockatoo Islands off the Kimberley coast of Western Australia. The collection of marine fauna data will assist Pluton to meet their environmental approvals requirements for any expansion plans of mining operations on Cockatoo Island and the possible infrastructure development of iron ore mining on Irvine Island.

BMT Reports Strong Full Year Performance

Treasure Hunters, Odyssey, Came Up Silver in 2012

Odyssey Marine Exploration reports financial results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2012. Total revenue in the fourth quarter was $7.9 million as compared to $0.9 million in the same year-ago quarter. The majority of the silver recovered in 2012 from the SS Gairsoppa shipwreck was sold in the quarter with fourth quarter proceeds of $30.1 million to Odyssey ($17.8 million of this was credited in third quarter to expenses as recoupment of project costs). Shareholder value was created through mineral exploration and resource estimate operations which resulted in the development of Oceanica Resources in the first quarter of 2013 providing $15 million in cash and 62.6% ownership in Oceanica to the company.

Brazil's Container Shipping Sector Undergoes Changes

Brazil's container shipping sector is undergoing another scene change as players in the sector again change partners. Carriers Transroll Navegacao and Alianca Transportes Maritimos SA are to launch a Brazilian coastal service following the collapse of an agreement between Transroll and bulk shipping group Docefrota, according to sources at the companies. The news follows weeks of speculation about talks between the two Rio de Janeiro based companies and various other Brazilian shipping lines. Rival carriers Docenave, Global Transporte Oceanico, Frota Oceanica y Amazonica, Neptunia Companhia de Navegacao have all been involved in talks regarding coastal services, known as cabotage, shipping sources say.

SSP Completes Environmental Tests

SSP Offshore Inc. announced that the SSP team and its proprietary platforms, the SSP320 and SSP Plus, reached a major development milestone, completing a full spectrum of global environment performance tests carried out at the LabOceano/Coppe testing basin in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The MARIN Institute operating in collaboration with Oceanica Offshore supervised these tests. SSP Offshore hosted a Showcase Day on November 19, 2009 for selected participants at the LabOceano facilities.
