Dr. Ibrahim Named CEO of OSC, ODC

Dr. Ibrahim Al-Nadhairi was named CEO for both the Shipping and Drydock business units.

As ASYAD Group continues the integration of Oman Shipping Company (OSC) and Oman Drydock Company (ODC), it has appointed Dr. Ibrahim Al-Nadhairi as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Shipping and Drydock business units.Prior to his role, Dr. Ibrahim was Chief Operating Officer of Oman Shipping Company and in charge of the ship management segment looking after the technical management of the fleet and overseeing the running of the company’s asset. In his new role he will lead a multinational organization with 1900 people.

India Develops 111 Inland Waterways

The government of India has informed that 111 waterways are being developed in phased manner as National Waterways (NWs) in the country for the purpose of shipping and navigation.The Minister of State for Shipping Mansukh Mandaviya that various initiatives have been taken by the Government to increase the use of Inland Waterways and Coastal Shipping for greater cargo shipment.These include providing assured depth of water in the channels, navigation aids like GPS and River Information System, terminals at regular intervals, facilities for mechanized handling of cargo handling etc.The Minister also informed that cargo transportation on waterways rose to 72.31 Million Tonnes in the year 2018-19…

Two ODCs Loaded at Hamburg Port

On 25 April, two Over-Dimensional-Cargos (ODC) tanks manufactured by Chart Ferox were loaded by Wallmann & Co., the long-established Hamburg company specializing in handling heavy lift cargoes. With a length of almost 50 metres and a width of more than 6 metres, following brief preparation for loading, these were heaved one after the other into the cargo hatch of the motor coaster MOANA. Two Liebherr LHM 600 cranes were used for the tandem loading process. This commenced with the positioning of the first tank on the port side of the loading hatch. The second tank was then precisely placed to starboard alongside the first. Loading, stowing and securing these gigantic tanks, each measuring 49.2 x 6.0 x 6.2 metres and weighing 234 tons, required precise maneuvering to the last centimetre.

Oman Drydock Closes 2015 with Busy Second Half

Oman Drydock Company (ODC) has reported one of its busiest half year periods to date for drydockings, conversions and repairs. Oman Drydock Company (ODC) informs it has appointed one of Oman’s most experienced maritime professionals as deputy CEO to help support and grow its expanding operations. Taking up the role of deputy CEO, Dr. Ahmed Al Abri, draws on 17 years experience working as a naval architect overseeing major projects in shipyards around the world in the U.K., Holland, Romania and Singapore. “When I first went to study naval architecture at Southampton University in the U.K., there were no shipyards in Oman,” he said.

Oman Drydock Bags VLCC Contracts

Onassis-controlled Springfield Shipping will convert two oil-bulk-ore (OBO) carriers to VLCCs at Oman Drydock Company (ODC), Oman. The multi-million pound contracts will see ODC convert the recently bought 319,869 deadweight tonnage (DWT), 2010-built Selma B to the Olympic Lion and the 2009-built Camilla T to the Olympic Leopard. The ships will be converted from oil bulk ore (OBO) carriers to very large crude carriers (VLCCs). The deal follows an identical job ODC completed for Springfield on the Olympic Luck (ex B Whale) that was successfully completed in January this year. Somali officials say foreign ships plundering fish stocks; Somali piracy greatly reduced due to security measures. A rise in illegal fishing off Somalia could spark a resurgence in piracy, United Nations and Somali fishing officials have warned, nearly three years after the pirates' last successful hijacking in the Indian Ocean. The last outbreak of Somali piracy cost the world's shipping industry billions of dollars as pirates paralysed shipping lanes, kidnapped hundreds of seafarers and seized vessels more than 1,000 miles from Somalia's coastline. Since then, growing use of private security details and the presence of international warships have effectively neutered the pirates.

Oman Drydocks Handls 300th Vessel

The Oman Drydock Company has celebrated the handing over of the 300th vessel since starting its operations in 2011, under the auspices of Said bin Hamdoon al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications for Ports and Marine Affairs. The vessel, Olympic Luck, which was delivered yesterday (Jan 21) was converted from a multipurpose vessel to an oil tanker, a milestone achievement and an important project for Oman Drydock Company, said a statement from the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications for Ports and Marine Affairs. Berthing Delays At Indian Ports For Heavy Lift & ODC vessels

Because of their longer turnaround time heavy lift and project cargo vessels are not being given preferential berthing at most leading Indian ports creating in a kind of a 'pseudo congestion' situation at most ports. Besides, there is a lack of storage space generally at most ports for heavy lift and ODC (Over dimensional cargo) further aggravating the situation. 1) In Mumbai Port as on date there is berthing delays of approx 2 to 3 days for BPS & BPX berths and for Harbour wall berth the delay in getting berthing is approx 1 day. However, there is no delay inside Indira docks. 2) Waiting time at Nhava Sheva shallow water berth is nil to 1 day and depends further on the performance of ships at berth and cement vessel calling in near future.

ODC Awarded GTT License for LNG Market

Oman Drydock Company (ODC) said it has made a “giant leap” forward in its campaign to become one of the leading shipyards in the world for LNG repairs after it was formally awarded the \ Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) license at the Posidonia Shipping Trade Fair in Athens, Greece. ODC chairman Dr. Abdulmalik Al Hinai was joined by GTT CEO Phillippe Berterottiere at the ODC stand to make the announcement. Berterottiere said it is highly important that ODC is able to put into place a solid quality system as a centre for LNG expertise.

First Indian vessel moves ODCs in one go

Allcargo’s multi purpose vessel “Allcargo Susheela” successfully loaded 9 pieces of Heavy lift & ODC cargo from Jawaharlal Nehru Port’s shallow berth last week. It is for the first time that an Indian flag vessel has moved multiple heavy lift cargo in one go. Same vessel had earlier carried 2 nos. generators weighing 105 MT each from Mumbai to Cochin. During last few months she was engaged in carrying project cargo in the Persian Gulf. Oman Drydock Targets LNG Repair Market

Oman Drydock Company (ODC) is to formally launch a new partnership targeting the LNG carrier repair market at next month’s Posidonia trade fair in Greece. The new package is being launched with DSEC a subsidiary of Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Company Ltd (DSME), which is ODC’s official partner. ODC Chief Executive Yong Duk Park said Posidonia, which is one of the shipping industry’s biggest trade fairs, is an ideal location to raise the profile of ODC and the new partnership. Oman Drydock Announces 200th Drydocking

Oman Drydock Company (ODC), based in the Middle East’s new mega city of Duqm, signaled its "passionate and driving ambition" to catapult itself further into the region’s multibillion dollar ship repair industry after completing its 200th drydocking since launching in 2011. A ceremony was held at the shipyard, which cost $1.5 billion to build, to celebrate the landmark with shipping giant Maersk whose vessel, the 4388 TEU Maersk Wisconsin, was the 200th ship to be drydocked by ODC.

Oman Drydock Announces Strongest Year of Trading

The Oman Drydock Company (ODC), one of the Middle East’s newest and biggest shipyards, is announcing its strongest year of trading. The shipyard undertook 75 drydockings and repairs in 2013 taking the total number to 190 since the yard which was opened in Duqm in Central Oman in 2011. ODC also saw staff numbers increase to more than 2,000 in 2013. The vessels ODC has worked on include Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), crude oil tankers, container ships, LNG and LPG carriers, chemical carriers, bulk carriers, as well as dredgers, RO-ROs and barges.

GAC appointed as Sarjak's Liner Agent in Chennai

GAC India has entered into an agency agreement with Mumbai-based Sarjak Container Lines Pvt Ltd (Sarjak), to handle its operations requirement in Chennai. This latest development comes twelve months after its appointment to manage Sarjak's operations in Delhi and northern India. Sarjak specializes in the transportation of Over Dimensioned Cargo (ODC) in containers, by its fleet of hard top, open top, flat rack, super rack and GP containers. Sarjak's substantial asset base of special equipment enables the company to handle shipments that cannot fit into normal containers. Oman Drydock Receives Largest Two LNG Carriers Yet

Oman DryDock Company (ODC) has made another milestone achievement when it received the largest two carriers since starting the soft operation last April. The earlier gas carrier received by the company last year, Muscat LNG which is owned by Oman Shipping Company, was smaller in size compared to the carriers received by the dock during this period. Commenting on this milestone achievement, Sheikh Khalil bin Ahmed al Salmi said Oman DryDock Company received the German Crude Carrier Alpha Glory that has a capacity of 309,636 tons. The carrier, of dimensions  333 m x 58 m x 31.2 m will receive the required maintenance and repair service at the dock. The service includes the replacement of a large quantity of steel in addition to cleaning the tanks.

Oman Dry-dock Growth Prospects Good

Oman Dry-Dock Co eyes $20 million annual revenue by year 2020 Oman Dry-Dock Co (ODC), which owns and manages the Sultanate's newly operational ship repair yard at Duqm, has said it is eyeing annual revenues of around $200 million by the year 2020, Oman Daily Observer has reported. Over the past 12 months, the yard had successfully dry-docked, repaired and maintained a total of 76 ships across all classification types and sizes. The yard's two huge graving docks can accommodate the world's largest vessels of up to 600,000 dwt, and as many as 10 ships of different sizes can be repaired at once at the two docks.
