Marlink Helps Drive Odfjell’s Digital Strategy

Marlink signed an agreement with Odfjell Management AS to provide seamless access to global enterprise and crew applications across 52 vessels. Major Oil Spill in Rotterdam

The Odfjell tanker Bow Jubail struck a jetty at the Port of Rotterdam, rupturing her hull and releasing an estimated 220 tons of bunker fuel into the water. No injuries were reported, and she berthed without further incident. According to a Reuters report, a clean-up operation was underway after an oil freighter punctured its hull while mooring, releasing a “considerable” amount of heavy fuel oil. Odfjell, the owner of the freighter Bow Jubail, said in a statement the ship had lost 220 tons of heavy fuel oil in the incident, which took place Saturday afternoon. Odfjell press release said that it caused a release of about 217 tons of heavy fuel oil (HFO) from the fuel tank inside.

ASRY Repairs 4,000th Ship

Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard (ASRY), said it has recently achieved a milestone with the repair of its 4,000th ship. The vessel, the Gas Al Gurain, is an LPG Tanker owned by Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC) one of ASRY’s longest standing customers. ASRY, established in 1977, noted that reaching the 4,000-ship mark was achieved in part thanks to some of the world most prestigious fleets, including KOTC, Maersk, UASC, Odfjell MidEast and many more. Installation of a new Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) system, exhaust gas economizer which utilizes the heat energy from diesel generators.

Odfjell, Lloyd’s Register in Green Passport Deal

The Norwegian company Odfjell Management AS has contracted Lloyd’s Register EMEA to certify 18 ships with the Green Passport and to offer staff training on the issues around certification. Staff training at Odfjell’s headquarters in Bergen, Norway, will start on May 19, 2009 before the completion of the Green Passport inventories. Further training will follow in Asia as Lloyd’s Register EMEA fulfils its first ever significant contract with the Norwegian parcel tanker operator. The Green Passport is essentially an inventory of all the materials onboard a ship that may be hazardous to people’s health or the environment, and that require careful handling or special awareness. The inventory accompanies the ship throughout its operational life.
