WWII Museum’s PT Boat Readies for Passengers

A cadre of volunteers navigate the regulatory labyrinth and a host of safety requirements to bring back to life an enduring symbol the nation’s can-do spirit and resiliency. Early next year, a 78-foot Patrol Torpedo 305 boat, being restored at the National WWII Museum, should be U.S. Coast Guard compliant and ready for passengers. The fast-attack PT-305, equipped with cannons, torpedoes and machine guns, served in the Mediterranean in 1944 and 1945, operating from Bastia, Corsica.

Sulzer Sells Of Its Metco Division To Oerlikon

Sulzer has successfully completed the sale of its Metco division to Oerlikon. This sale was announced on January 31, 2014. The transaction is based on an enterprise value of CHF 1 billion. Sulzer’s net cash proceeds after all taxes will be approximately CHF 850 million. Sulzer CEO Klaus Stahlmann said, “This transaction is an important step towards focusing Sulzer’s activities on three attractive key markets—oil and gas, power, and water. After the divestment, almost 80 percent of Sulzer’s sales are in the three key markets. Sulzer intends to use the funds generated from the divestment for targeted acquisitions and further investments towards organic growth in these pivotal markets.

Head of ABB Power Systems Leaving

Brice Koch, head of the Power Systems division at ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has decided to leave ABB to become chief executive officer at Oerlikon, based in Pfaeffikon, Switzerland. Koch joined ABB in 1994 and held a number of roles in Switzerland before taking over as global head of the Transformers business unit in 2002. In 2007, he became head of ABB in China and North Asia, and joined the Executive Committee in 2010 as head of Marketing and Customer Solutions. He has been responsible for the Power Systems division since March 2012.

Lockheed Martin's Sea SLICE Will Participate in FBE-J

Lockheed Martin's advanced hullform ship Sea SLICE will participate as a littoral warfare ship in the Navy's Fleet Battle Experiment Juliet (FBE-J) this summer. Sea SLICE, designated as a High Speed Vessel (HSV) for the exercise, will demonstrate the flexibility achievable by "modularity" in a small, fast, highly maneuverable platform. Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics and Surveillance Systems (NE&SS)-Marine Systems has overall responsibility for developing Sea SLICE. Systems, NE&SS-Surface Systems, Missiles and Fire Control, Mission Systems and Information Systems, are contributing technologies that will be included in the ship. During FBE-J…
