The kick-off ceremony for the realization of Gastrade SA's LNG FSRU facility in Alexandroupolis, Greece, was held on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, in the old Storage House of the Alexandroupolis Port Customs.Once delivered, the FSRU, with a capacity of 153,500 c.m. of LNG, will be moored in the offshore area 17.6 km southwest of the port of Alexandroupolis. USCG, ABS Approve Wireless Helm System for ATBs

U.S.-based autonomous marine systems developer Sea Machines announced on Tuesday that it has received class and regulatory approval to install its commercial wireless helm system aboard a class of U.S.-flag tugboats that support articulated tug-barge (ATB) sets, marking an industry first in wireless vessel control.The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) approval for Sea Machines’ SM200 follows a review of the Boston-based company’s technology and the system’s applications aboard ATB tugs, deeming the system satisfactory for shipboard installation and trials.

Engie's Tractebel Unveils Hydrogen Platform

Tractebel Engineering GmbH and Tractebel Overdick GmbH are developing a concept for an offshore platform which makes it possible to produce hydrogen from offshore wind energy at an industrial scale using electrolysis.The companies, both part of French energy group Engie SA, announced that the concept consists of an up to 400-MW plant for the production of renewable hydrogen via electrolysis at an industrial scale.This kind of plant exceeds the output of previous technologies many times over. It could already be put into practice today, for example in the North Sea.The innovative offshore platform can enable a number of tasks to be solved simultaneously. The proportion of “green” hydrogen (H2) in the energy mix can be increased on a CO2-neutral basis.

Toyota Intros New Lithium-ion Range

U.S. distributor of Toyota lift trucks and tow tractors Toyota Material Handling has announced the approval of a new lineup of lithium-ion batteries for use in its 3- and 4-wheel electric sit-down models.The  provider of material handling and industrial lift trucks and equipment, this introduction makes Toyota the first manufacturer in the industry to obtain UL-E and UL-EE certification for the combination of lift truck and lithium-ion batteries on a sit-down counterbalanced forklift.Toyota engineers worked directly with Underwriters Laboratory (UL) to test and certify the use of four new Navitas lithium-ion batteries in Toyota forklifts.

Shipping Majors Join CargoSmart Digital Initiative

Underwater Bow Thruster Reinstallation

A month after a Hydrex diver/technicians removed the bow thruster of a 300-meter container vessel a team once again mobilized to Italy. They reinstalled the overhauled unit underwater with the use of the company’s flexible mobdock technique.The available time window for the removal of the bow thruster in October was very short because of the tight schedule of the vessel’s charterer. The time required to perform the operation therefore needed to be brought back to the absolute minimum. For this reason the job was split in parts, performed in different ports.

ABP Wins Hornsea One Blade Contract

Gas Natural Fenosa, Baleària Sign LNG Bunkering Deal

Spanish liquefied natural gas (LNG) operator Gas Natural Fenosa signed an exclusive 10-year LNG supply deal with Spanish ferry operator Baleària. According to the company release, the supply contract will initially apply to the ports of Barcelona, Valencia and Algeciras, then extended to all the peninsular ports operated by the shipping company together with the entire new fleet powered by this fuel committed to using LNG as an ecological fuel. The president of Baleària, Adolfo Utor, and the Wholesale Iberian Marketing Manager of GAS NATURAL FENOSA, Joaquín Mendiluce, this morning signed this agreement at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Madrid.

Massive Pumping Station Transported

Norway’s Royal Transport was recently assigned the task of moving a 420 t pumping station in Bergen. For this, the company used two self propelled platform trailers: one second-generation (G2) MHD SPE and a first-generation (G1) MHD SP from NICOLAS. For this assignment, Royal Transport rented a MHD G1 SP to combine the vehicle with the company´s own MHD G2 SPE. “The idea was to combine an electronically with a mechanically-steered vehicle in a loose coupling mode. This is unusual, but functioned perfectly with vehicles from NICOLAS following a careful planning process.
