Shipping Firm MOL Teams Up with Flotation Energy to Build Floating Wind Farms in Japan

Japanese shipping giant Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has partnered up with Scotland-based floating wind specialist Flotation Energy to jointly evaluate offshore wind development opportunities in Japan. The agreement builds on the 2GW portfolio of offshore floating wind projects in Japan being developed by Flotation Energy (Japan) Co. Ltd., starting from Niigata and followed by other areas, the companies said.MOL will jointly develop a local supply chain and Flotation Energy will manage overall project development.

Siemens Gamesa Launches 14MW Offshore Wind Turbine

Wind turbine maker Siemens Gamesa has unveiled a new SG 14-222 DD offshore Direct Drive wind turbine with 14-megawatt (MW) capacity.The capacity can reach up to 15 MW using the company’s Power Boost function. The turbine will have a 222-meter diameter rotor, 108-meter long blades, and a 39,000 m2 swept area.The 14 MW capacity allows one SG 14-222 DD machine to provide enough energy to power approximately 18,000 average European households every year. SGRE Wins 2.6GW Offshore Turbine Deal in US

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE), the world’s largest supplier of offshore wind turbines, won the order for Dominion Energy’s 2,640-megawatt project off the coast of Virginia, U.S.A.According to a press release from the Spanish-based engineering company company, this is the largest offshore wind power project in the rapidly increasing U.S. market to date.A long-term service and maintenance agreement is included for the site located off the coast of Virginia. The agreement furthermore foresees utilizing turbines from Siemens Gamesa’s Direct Drive offshore wind turbine platform.The final number of units and turbine model remain to be determined. All installations are expected to complete by 2026.

SGRE Lands World’s Largest Floating OWF

SGRE Confirms Taiwan Offshore Wind Factory

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has held a groundbreaking ceremony for a nacelle assembly facility in the Port of Taichung in Taiwan that will be its first offshore  assembly facility outside Europe.Construction is due to begin in 2020 at the site located in the port of Taichung. This represents an important milestone for the company in the fast-growing Asia-Pacific region. Siemens Gamesa currently has offshore nacelle assembly and manufacturing facilities in Germany and Denmark.The parcel of land being developed in Taiwan measures over 30,000 square meters, and will be used for nacelle assembly, testing, warehousing, office buildings, and outdoor storage.

SGRE Bags Largest U.S. OWP Order

The Spanish wind energy giant Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has received an order for 1,714 MW from Orsted and Eversource.Encompassing three offshore wind power projects, the signed conditional contract is the largest U.S. offshore wind power (OWP) order to date, it said in a press release.According to SGRE, the order encompasses the supply, delivery, and installation of SG 8.0-167 DD wind turbines including service agreements in federal waters off the northeastern coast of the U.S. All deliveries are subject to Ørsted and Eversource’s final investment decision.Siemens Gamesa has been conditionally awarded the contract to deliver offshore wind turbines totalling 880 MW for the Sunrise Wind project, which will be the company’s largest offshore wind project in the U.S.

SGRE, Ørsted Firm Up Taiwan OWP Project

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has received the firm order from the Danish energy company and offshore wind giant Ørsted for their 900MW Greater Changhua 1 & 2a offshore wind power project in Taiwan.The project includes the Asia-Pacific variant of the SG 8.0-167 DD offshore wind turbine and a service agreement. As part of this firm order, Siemens Gamesa will establish a nacelle assembly facility at Taichung Harbor.The facility is expected to be ready in 2021, exceeding the local content creation timeline as set by the Taiwanese government.Wind turbine towers for the project will be supplied locally through the partnership between CS Wind and Chin Fong in Taiwan, meeting the official requirements for local content on wind turbine components.

Siemens Gamesa Enters Japan Offshore Market

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has secured its first preferred supplier nomination in the Japanese offshore wind sector, winning a preferred supplier status for a 455-MW project in Akita prefecture.The agreement with Obayashi Corporation currently includes using SG 8.0-167 DD offshore wind turbines for the Northern Akita Offshore Wind Farm project, a deal which includes a long-term service agreement, with commercial operation scheduled to start in 2024. All deliveries are subject to Obayashi Corporation’s final investment decision.The Northern Akita pipeline will reach a capacity of up to 455 MW at a site located in the northern region of Tohoku, Japan.

Siemens Gamesa Launches First 10MW Offshore Turbine

Spanish offshore industry player Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has unveiled a giant new 10+ MW wind turbine it claims will boost yields by 30 per cent, paving the way for a new generation of super-charged offshore wind farms.The turbine maker said in a press release that the new SG 10.0-193 DD is set to hit the market in 2022.Based on the experience of its previous generations, the newest wind turbine in the SGRE offshore product portfolio builds on proven technology for maximum energy yield at all wind speeds. Siemens Gamesa Firms Belgian Offshore Wind Project

Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) received the order for the 487 MW SeaMade offshore wind power project in Belgium from customer Seamade NV.The wind turbines and services provider said that it includes supply and commissioning of 58 units of the SG 8.0-167 DD offshore wind turbine and a 17-year Service agreement. The project consists of the two combined sites: Seastar, a 252 MW offshore wind power plant with 30 SG 8.0-167 wind turbines and Mermaid, a 235 MW offshore wind power plant with 28 SG 8.0-167 wind turbines.SeaMade NV is a partnership formed of the Otary RS NV (70%), Engie Electrabel NV (17.5%) and Eneco Wind Belgium SA (12.5%). Offshore construction is to commence in 2019 and be completed in 2020.

Bureau Veritas (BV) has been awarded a contract by MISC Berhad (MISC) to deploy and support the VeristarAIM3D ‘software as a solution’ system to provide asset integrity services on selected MISC FPS systems:the Floating Storage & Offloading (FSO) vessel -FSO Benchama 2and the Floating Production, Storage & Offloading (FPSO) vessels - MaMPU1 and FPSO Cendor. Veristar AIM3D is BV’s sophisticated, full life-cycle Asset Integrity Management System, developed in partnership with Dassault Systèmes. MISC Berhad Names FSO Benchamas 2

MISC Berhad held the naming and delivery ceremony of its new Floating, Storage & Offloading (FSO) facility for Chevron Offshore (Thailand) Limited (COTL), the FSO Benchamas 2. The project marks MISC’s maiden foray into Thailand’s offshore oil and gas sector as well as its first partnership with COTL in the offshore space. The contract for the lease and operations FSO was secured through an international competitive bidding process and was signed between MISC Offshore Floating Terminals (L) Limited (MOFT) and COTL in August 2016.

Michelsson to Join Evac

Waste, wastewater and water management systems provider Evac has appointed Tomas Michelsson as the President, Offshore and Merchant business area, effective January 8, 2018.   Michelsson will replace the former President, Claes Rudling, who has retired during the summer.    Michelsson previously worked as the Vessel Type Responsible (VTR) Global Sales Manager, Ro-Pax and Yachts, ABB Marine, and as the Director, Marine and Offshore business unit, Marioff.

ABS, DSME Pact on Novel FLNG Concept

ABS signed an agreement with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co. (DSME) to support safety and apply class guidance to a conceptual Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) unit. “We are pleased to sign this agreement and work with DSME to support new innovations and technology advancements in the offshore industry,” says ABS Executive Vice President of Global Offshore Ken Richardson. “As gas continues to play an increasingly important role in the global energy mix and industry looks to develop new resources, ABS remains committed to its mission of advancing safety,” Ken added. Energy related maritime solutions and services provider MISC Berhad (MISC) has made inroads into Thailand’s offshore oil and gas market for the first time. MISC’s wholly-owned subsidiary, MISC Offshore Floating Terminals (L) Limited (MOFT) signed a contract for the lease and operations of a Floating, Storage and Offloading Vessel (FSO) for the FSO Benchamas 2 Project by Chevron Offshore (Thailand) Ltd. (COTL) in the Gulf of Thailand. The contract was secured through an international competitive bidding process and marks MISC’s maiden foray into Thailand’s offshore oil and gas market.

VIKING Reports 10 Years of Profit Growth

VIKING Life-Saving Equipment A/S announced its 2013 financial results, reporting growth in both turnover and profits for 10 straight years. Adjusted for falls in the U.S. dollar exchange rate, currencies pegged to the dollar, and European member state non-euro currencies, the company’s turnover for 2013 increased 6 percent to DKK 1.612 billion, VIKING said.
