Are OSVs Fit for Refit for Offshore Wind?

While it is generally agreed that the nascent offshore wind energy market in the U.S. will be a newbuild market, there is a repair and conversion possibility for some stacked OSVs.Though estimates on the pace of the offshore wind energy market in the U.S. vary widely, the direction is clear: offshore wind will be a huge marketplace for construction and support vessels to be deployed in U.S. waters over the next decade. The starting point for estimated vessel demand is the raft of projects along the U.S. East Coast, and to a lesser extent, in the Pacific waters, now in the pipeline.

Corvus Energy Names Bjørkeli CEO

Corvus Energy has appointed Geir Bjørkeli as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Bjørkeli was previously Director of Norway for the Dutch company Huisman, and established the company’s Norwegian presence for offshore construction equipment solutions. Bjørkeli will remain based in Bergen, Norway. Prior to joining Huisman, Bjørkeli was a design engineer with the ship designer and shipbuilder Ulstein. He held several positions with Rolls-Royce, including VP Sales for North East Asia and Managing Director of Rolls-Royce Marine Japan…

Huisman Brazil Receives First Order

Huisman, one of the worldwide specialist in lifting, drilling and subsea solutions, has received a first order for their new production facility in Brazil. The new order includes three sets of five cranes, which will be manufactured as soon as construction of the Brazilian production facility is completed in 2014. The sets of cranes are scheduled for delivery between Q3 2015 and Q1 2017. The order includes three identical sets of cranes for the new build vessels Cassino, Curumim and Salinas.

Huisman Begins Construction on New Quayside

On Thursday, June 16, 2011, Huisman’s CEO Joop Roodenburg gave the official start signal for the construction of Huisman China’s new quayside. With the new quayside in place, the Huisman China facility will be easily accessible for seagoing vessels, allowing for fast installation, commissioning and testing of the Huisman designed and built offshore construction equipment onboard. Besides the installation of Huisman products, the new quay and 2,400mt Travelling Crane will also serve commercial purposes for companies throughout China.

Healthy 2001 Projected By Many Repair Yards

With the next "offshore boom" looming on the horizon, many of the vessel repair and conversion yards, particularly but not limited to the Gulf of Mexico region, are projecting good times in the coming year.
