Trelleborg Opens Houston HQ for Marine Solutions

Trelleborg said its marine and infrastructure operation in North America has recently moved into its new sales office in Houston, Texas, in a move aimed at meeting the growing demands across all North American markets and providing more localized and coordinated customer support for its complimentary product offerings, which include marine fender systems, docking and mooring equipment, transfer link systems, and navigation and piloting solutions.The new 8,600-square-foot office located on the west side of Houston places Trelleborg in the heart of the Houston metro area.

IMCA eCMID Workshop to be Held in Stavanger

The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) holds regular workshops to engage with the eCMID community including vessel operators, inspectors, and clients. The next workshop being held at Oceaneering International’s facility in Stavanger, Norway on the afternoon of Monday May 29, like all such workshops in 2017, has as its core theme how IMCA vessel inspection tools can assist in vessel assurance efforts for offshore contractors – in particular, for vessels brought out of lay-up, and as part of ISM code requirements.

Emas Reels in $32m Contract

Singapore-listed offshore firm EMAS Offshore Limited wins $32m of new business  has secured new awards and letter of intents for charters amounting to approximately US$32 million, including options. These new charters will see EMAS Offshore’s Anchor Handling Tug (AHT), Anchor Handling Tug and Supply (AHTS) and Platform Supply (PSV) vessels supporting National Oil companies (NOCs), International Oil companies (IOCs) and other offshore contractors on drilling operations and cargo supply runs for offshore oil field projects in their production phases. Concentrated in Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar and Vietnam, these contracts also comprise of awards from the West Africa region.

Grandweld Shipbuilding Grows in Middle East

United Arab Emirates shipyard Grandweld has secured its position as the number one regional shipyard for the offshore segment, completing construction of a total of 17 vessels over the space of the last year. Latest projects include advanced crew boats, dive maintenance and support vessels, and work crane boats for a who’s who of Middle East energy firms and offshore contractors. Grandweld, which has been operating from its Dubai base since 1984, specializes in vessels custom built to conduct complex operations in the region’s challenging offshore environment.

Subsea 7, KBR Team Up

Oslo-listed offshore shipowner Subsea 7 has signed an agreement with Houston-based company, KBR and its subsidiary Granherne, to form an alliance in the delivery of concept and front end engineering and design (FEED) services. This is the second alliance in a week after signing an agreement to combine resources and collaborate on selected projects with Houston-based OneSubsea. In a statement issued Thursday, Subsea 7 said the alliance would bring two market-leading companies together to ensure the most cost- effective solutions are presented to clients in the early concept evaluation phase of a field development project. Norwegian Shipowners See Challenges Ahead

Falling oil prices, heightened geopolitical tensions and sluggish, uncertain growth in the global economy are directly impacting the maritime industry, causing Norwegian shipowners to be less optimistic than last year regarding both turnover and profitability, as the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association Outlook report for 2015 shows. “We have seen a marked negative shift in just a short time. 2015 will be a challenging year for Norwegian maritime companies, but we must be prepared for 2016 to be even more challenging,” stated Sturla Henriksen, CEO of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association. Shipowners are far less optimistic than last year, anticipating growth in turnover of only 2.3 percent in 2015, up to NOK 268 billion, compared to 6 percent anticipated growth last year.

UK North Sea Workers Give "Overwhelming" Support for Strike

Trade unions Unite and GMB said members working offshore in Britain's North Sea oil and gas industry had shown overwhelming support for industrial action in a consultative ballot which closed at 1200 GMT on Friday. Unite's members covered by the Offshore Contractors' Agreement delivered a 93.5 percent vote in favour of proceeding to a strike ballot, increasing the likelihood of North Sea strike action for the first time in a generation, the union said. GMB's members also voted "overwhelmingly" in favour of an official ballot for strike action over proposals from clients and contractors to change the terms and conditions of employment, GMB said. Great ships of 2014: Siem Moxie

The ISV Siem Moxie, an Ulstein SX 163 design not only has been deemed a “Great Ship” in our pages, it has also been awarded the “Offshore Renewables Awards 2014” and the “Innovation Awards” by an international panel. The Siem Moxie measures 242 x 55.7 ft. (74 x 17 m). It is the very first X-Bow support vessel which features two sets of Voith Schneider Propellers. Both the Voith Schneider Propellers are also used for its active roll stabilization system and dynamic positioning (DP-class 2). Its design drew on a wealth of experience within the offshore business.

Baltic Wind Success Paves Way for Ecosse Subsea Systems

Ecosse Subsea Systems (ESS) has completed a £4.7 million boulder clearing and pre-lay trenching project which it claims has been one of the most successful ever conducted for the wind energy sector. As subcontractor to Siem Offshore Contractors (SOC), the Banchory-based subsea specialist completed 86 boulder clearing passes followed by 172 first and multi-passes over a 90km route during a 13-week boulder clearing and trenching campaign on the EnBW Baltic 2 offshore wind farm project.

Siem Offshore Order DP CLV from Remontowa

Siem Offshore contracts Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. of Poland to construct a dynamically positioned Cable Lay Vessel (CLV). The associated gross project cost for the first vessel, scheduled for April 2015 and ready for operation, is approx. USD 85 million. The CLV has been designed in close cooperation with VARD Design and will have an overall length of 95.3 meters, a breadth of 21.5 meters, a cable payload of 4,250 tons and an accommodation for 60 persons. Ecosse Subsea Systems (ESS) reported a successful start to a 10-week boulder clearing and trenching campaign on the Baltic 2 offshore wind farm project. Mobilized onboard the Siem Topaz anchor handling vessel, Ecosse Subsea’s SCAR subsea plough system is engaged on route clearing and pre-lay trenching operations on behalf of Siem Offshore Contractors. Soils have varied from dense sands and hard clays to high boulder density ranging up to four meters, but the SCAR has demonstrated its versatility and capabilities in dealing robustly with challenging conditions.
