The Polar Research Institute of China has ordered a new 14,300gt polar research vessel. Designed by Aker Arctic Finland, it will be the first vessel of its type to be built in China, though a shipyard has yet to be named. The 122.5-meter multifunctional icebreaker will be able to handle ice up to 1.5 meters thick, achieving a continuous icebreaking speed of two to three knots. It will have an endurance of 20,000 nautical miles and with a full 90-person crew, it will be able to cruise for 60 days without resupply.

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has won an order to supply MacGregor offshore cranes and a Triplex handling system for a 14,300gt polar research vessel being built for the Polar Research Institute of China. MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has signed contracts with Chinese shipyard Guangzhou Shunhai Shipyard Ltd to deliver anchor handling/towing winch packages for five 48m anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels, each with a 75-tonne bollard pull and one 40m AHTS vessel with a 70-tonne bollard pull. The vessels are under construction for an undisclosed Middle East owner. The order was booked into third quarter 2015 order intake. MacGregor will supply a medium-pressure 150-tonne capacity anchor handling/towing winch, a tugger winch, capstan and hydraulic power unit for each of the 48m AHTS vessels, and a 100-tonne capacity anchor handling/towing winch, a tugger winch, capstan and hydraulic power unit for the 40m AHTS vessel.

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, will supply deck machinery for a new 65m emergency rescue & response vessel (ERRV) for Sentinel Marine. The ship has been designed by Focal Marine & Offshore Pte Ltd and will have a bollard pull of 100 tonnes of FOCAL 552. The order for the complete MacGregor anchor handling solution was booked into the third quarter 2015 order intake. MacGregor will supply a complete deck machinery package including a 200-tonne line pull / 300-tonne brake holding anchor handling towing winch, complete with a hydraulic spooling device, as well as Triplex shark jaws and guide pins. Following an order announced in October 2013, MacGregor, part of Cargotec delivered and commissioned 45 variable frequency drive (VFD) winches and a full control system for the recently completed heavy-lift crane barge Hyundai HLV-10000, one of the largest heavy lift vessels in the world. Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co Ltd, a subsidiary of Hyundai Heavy Industries, built the large floating crane to meet the increasing demands for heavyweight shipbuilding support activities, along with offshore lifting operations. MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has won a contract from Chinese shipbuilder Wuhu Xinlian to supply two complete deck equipment packages for a pair of 78m anchor handling, supply and oil recovery vessels. The MacGregor equipment will be installed on the 12,000 bhp, 150 tonne bollard pull vessels under construction for Sentinel Offshore (L) Limited. Equipment delivery is scheduled during August and September 2015. The contract follows a similar order from Wuhu Xinlian placed in August 2014, to supply full packages of MacGregor AHTS equipment for two 150 tonne bollard pull AHTS/oil recovery vessels. MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has received an order from Wuhu Xinlian Shipyard in China for eight MacGregor dry bulk cement handling systems. The fully automated pneumatic systems will be installed on two 78m 12,000 bhp 150T BP anchor handling, tug, supply and oil recovery vessels and six 79m 4,000 dwt platform supply vessels. The contract includes system design and the delivery of key components, which will take place between August 2015 and January 2016. MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has won a contract from Fujian Southeast Shipyard in China to supply deck equipment packages for two 78m anchor-handling/offshore support vessels under construction for Singapore-based Adhart Shipping Pte Ltd. The order was booked into fourth quarter 2014 order intake. The 12,000 bhp, 150 tonne bollard pull vessels are intended for operations in Asia/Pacific, the Middle East and West Africa. Delivery is scheduled for October and November 2015, with options for six further vessels. Each MacGregor equipment package includes a medium pressure anchor windlass/mooring winch, capstans, tugger winches, storage reels, a provisions crane and power packs.

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, announces changes in its operative structure and starts a reorganization into seven operative divisions which will become effective on January 1, 2015. The six new operative divisions together with Global Lifecycle Support as the seventh one will enable MacGregor to improve customer service throughout the lifecycle of the products, offer more comprehensive packages and boost the development of new shiptype-specific solutions, the company said. Helge Vatnehol has been appointed Group CEO of Rapp Marine. Vatnehol comes from the position of Senior Vice President Offshore Deck Machinery in Rolls Royce and takes over on September 1, 2014. “The companies in the winch division of former Rapp Marine Group have been collected within Rapp Marine Group. We are delighted that Helge Vatnehol has accepted the challenge to lead the group,” said Board Chairman of Rapp Marine, Olav Fjell. Vatnehol joined Rolls-Royce in 2000. He is currently Managing Director and board member of its Norwegian branch Rolls-Royce Marine AS.

Cargotec announces today that its MacGregor business has completed the acquisition of privately owned Hatlapa, a leading provider of merchant ship and offshore deck equipment. Cargotec announced the intention to acquire Hatlapa in July 2013 in a transaction valued at approximately €160 million. The acquisition further strengthens MacGregor's line of premium winch products as well as expands the offering to include steering gear, compressors and deck handling equipment. Hatlapa will be integrated into MacGregor's existing operating structure and its results will be consolidated into MacGregor's financial figures as of November 1, 2013. Hatlapa's sales contribution to MacGregor from closing for the remainder of the year is expected to be approximately €20 million.

The Hatlapa shareholders have entered into an agreement with Cargotec´s MacGregor to transfer all company shares and to integrate the merchant ship and offshore deck equipment business into the MacGregor portfolio. GEOSHIPS creates 40 new jobs with delivery of latest vessel. GEOSHIPS Group, a marine and subsea services provider, has completed charter party negotiations with Singapore based Teras Offshore, for a new Offshore Deck Cargo Vessel, resulting in the planned recruitment of a further 40 offshore staff. Formed in 2003, Westhill-based GEOSHIPS will operate, manage and crew the DP1 (dynamic positioning) Loch Seaforth vessel, which has been contracted on a three year bareboat charter, with options to extend.

Rolls-Royce has been awarded a £15 million contract by STX OSV to supply an extensive deck equipment package for an advanced anchor handling vessel to be operated by Iceman AS. The package, which is designed to improve operational safety, will include a new anchor handling frame (AHF) and a hydraulic anchor winch, which is capable of pulling 500 tonnes. It will also feature anchor handling cranes and systems to ensure controlled management of wires and chains when pulling heavy loads. Cargotec is supplying two MacGregor offshore deck cranes for installation on an offshore converter platform, BorWin beta, which will feed 800MW of renewable energy generated by two offshore windfarms into the German electricity grid. The power converter will begin test operation at the end of 2012. The MacGregor luffing cranes have an SWL of 10 tonne at 41m outreach and will be used to offload supply vessels, handle materials on BorWin beta's open deck areas and lower them to the decks below via hatches. They are also 'man-riding approved'.

Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has been awarded a contract by STX OSV Trading to supply technologically advanced anchor handling systems. The equipment will be installed on three vessels operated by offshore services company Norskan for use in deep water oil and gas fields off the coast of Brazil. The contract is valued at over $80.2m and includes the supply of a range of innovative Rolls-Royce technologies. Harrison Brothers Dry Dock & Repair Yard, Inc. has begun the preparations to begin the transformation of a 260 ft. Offshore Deck Barge into a 120 berth accommodations Flotel. The projects final destination is off the coast of for an undisclosed Oil & Gas Exploration Company. Harrison Brothers is planning to work around the clock to expedite the project ahead of schedule. The Heavy Fabrication will be performed by their recently completed New Build Facility complimented by the repair department’s century of outfitting experience.

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, La., signed a contract to design and build five 297.5 ft., 30,000 barrel (BBL), double hull, hot asphalt tank barges for Horizon Maritime LLC, Houston. They are being built at Bollinger’s Marine Fabricators (BMF), Amelia, La., with deliveries planned for the first and second quarter 2005. Lynn Falgout VP of BMF said, “These new barges will be similar to, but not identical to other hot oil barges we built for another customer. Overall, each of the four raked and one boxed barges will be 297.5 feet long with a 54-foot beam and 13 foot depth at the sides…

Providing ship repair, conversion, new construction and related services for barges and other vessels, FirstWave/Newpark Shipbuilding has garnered three new contracts. Pleiades Shipping Agents awarded the company for collision damage repair of 55,000-dwt vessel, MT Nestos. The ship, which sustained damage on its port side near the bow and just above the waterline, underwent repairs at the company's East Pelican Island facility. FirstWave has also been granted a contract by East Boston-based Sterling Equipment for the construction of two 140 x 40 ft. offshore deck barges scheduled for delivery in 1999. In addition, the company will also repair the mat on the Phoenix VI rig for Rio Grande Supply Company. The jack-up rig was loaded on heavy lift barge Boa 16, to make the repairs.
