Rolls-Royce Opens European Marine Technology & Training Centre

Rolls-Royce officially opens its new European Marine Technology and Training Centre in Ålesund, Norway. The celebration, whose guest of honour was HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, marked the formal opening of this 3,000m² ultra-modern facility, in the heart of Norway's maritime cluster. The centre features the latest Rolls-Royce marine technology and equipment to support customer training and simulation requirements and is particularly focused on offshore deepwater oil and gas exploration and production activities.

Wärtsilä Selected Best Supplier by CNOOC

Wärtsilä received an award for supplier excellence from CNOOC, the China National Offshore Oil Corporation. After internal evaluation by project management teams, 28 Chinese and international vendors participating in nine of CNOOC's major projects were honored. Wärtsilä is involved in four of these projects. This was the first time that CNOOC had arranged such an event to recognize its best suppliers, and the awards were presented at a ceremony held in Beijing. The project for which Wärtsilä received the award involves the construction and commissioning of the deepwater pipe-laying and crane vessel named Hai Yang Shi You 201 (HYSY 201). The vessel will be used in the construction and installation of infrastructure needed to develop offshore deepwater oil & gas fields worldwide.

NACE Corrosion 2010

NACE International, The Corrosion Society, has released details for the upcoming Corrosion 2010 Conference & Expo, the world’s largest annual conference dedicated to mitigating the costly global impact of corrosion. Recently, the annual cost of corrosion of the world’s critical infrastructure was found to be over $1.8t by the World Corrosion Organization. The annual event will take place in San Antonio, Texas, March 14 to 18, 2010 and will deliver a comprehensive array of meetings and symposia across a broad spectrum of industries. Corrosion 2010 will bring together more than 5,000 corrosion industry leaders, executives, and decision makers for workshops, forums, and events.

Drilling Deep Oil Reserves Offshore Angola

In an advisory, Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources Inc. Houston, Texas)reports that Girassol, the Angolan offshore, deepwater oil project run by TotalFinaElf is set to raise the country's daily output by over 25% from 750,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 950,000 bpd. 200,000 bpd. It is estimated that a number of the wells could produce 40,000 bpd. Partners in Block 17 with TotalFinaElf are Exxon-Mobil, BP, Statoil from Norway and Norsk Hydro with stakes ranging from 10% to 20%. Claiming that the 1,300m riser tower is the tallest offshore structure in the world, the company has installed a floating storage and production vessel (FPSO) with a capacity of two million barrels of crude.
