OTC Names 2016 Award Winners

The 2016 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) will honor this year’s Distinguished Achievement Award recipients on Tuesday, 3 May, in Houston. As part of the OTC Distinguished Achievement Awards Luncheon, the conference will recognize Robert (Don) Vardeman of Anadarko Petroleum Corporation for individual achievement, the Marine Technology Society Dynamic Positioning Committee for institutional achievement, and both George Hirasaki and Yuri Makogon with its Heritage Award. Founded in 1969, OTC brings together industry leaders and professionals from more than 120 countries. Its large international participation provides excellent opportunities for global sharing of technology, expertise, products, and best practices that address current and future industry conditions.

Charity Selected for 2015 OTC Dinner

The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) announces the 2015 beneficiary of the Annual OTC Dinner—the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) and the Petroleum Equipment & Services Association (PESA) Energy Education Center for the benefit of the Energy Institute High School. OTC will host the fifth Annual OTC Dinner on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at NRG Stadium in Houston. The event recognizes industry achievements, raises funds for a worthy cause, and provides an excellent opportunity for industry leaders to network with colleagues from around the world.

ABS Breaks Ground on Offshore Energy Center

ABS, a provider of classification services to the global offshore industry, is establishing an office in Houston's Energy Corridor near the intersection of Interstate 10 and Highway 6. The new facility will co-locate members from ABS engineering, project management, technology and business management, allowing ABS to better serve its client base in this significant energy research and development hub. "ABS recognizes that our customer base in the offshore industry demands on-site support with best-in-class services," says ABS Chairman Christopher J. Wiernicki.

104,800 Attendees at OTC 2013

Experts from the offshore energy industry around the world came together May 6-9 for the 2013 Offshore Technology Conference at Reliant Park in Houston. Attendance at the conference reached a 30-year high of 104,800, the second highest in show history and up 17% from last year. Attendance surpassed the 2012 total of 89,400 and the sold-out exhibition was the largest in show history at 652,185 ft², up from 641,350 ft² in 2012. The event had 2,728 companies representing 40 countries, including 244 new exhibitors in 2013. International companies made up 39% of exhibitors.

OTC Names 2013 “Distinguished Achievement Award” Recipients

The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) will present its 2013 Distinguished Achievement Awards on May 5 at the Annual OTC Dinner to Ken Arnold for individual achievement and to Total Exploration and Production for corporate achievement. In addition, the Heritage Award will be presented to E. Dendy Sloan, PhD and James Brill, PhD. The Annual OTC Dinner will take place at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. OTC Names 2013 Achievement Award Winners

The awards will be presented on 5, May 2013, at the annual Offshore Technology Conference dinner in Houston, Texas. Ken Arnold is being recognized for his outstanding leadership and extensive contributions to the E&P industry. His many achievements include playing an integral role in the offshore industry’s focus on safety through the development of Recommended Practices for offshore design and safety management; and developing approaches to both equipment sizing and facility project management that are still in use today.

Tidewater Elects Day, Announces Sr. Hire

New Orleans-based Tidewater Inc. elected James C. Day to its Board of Directors and reported it has hired Bruce Lundstrom as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. Day joins Tidewater’s Board with more than 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He is the retired chairman and former CEO of Noble Corp., one of the world’s largest offshore drilling companies. Day serves on the Board of Directors of ONEOK Inc., and as a trustee of the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation. He also served on the Board of the Offshore Energy Center and the American Petroleum Institute. Tidewater Elects Day To Board of Directors

Tidewater announced the election of James C. Day to its Board of Directors for a term expiring in July 2008. Day comes to Tidewater with a distinguished and successful career in the oil and gas industry with thirty years of experience. Mr. Day is the retired Chairman of the Board and former CEO of Noble Corporation, founded in Oklahoma in 1921 and is currently one of the world's largest offshore drilling companies. During his 23 year tenure with Noble Corporation, the company evolved from primarily a domestic land drilling contractor to an international offshore drilling leader operating in fourteen countries. Noble's market capitalization grew tremendously during this timeframe and the company became a member of the Fortune 500. Mr.

Offshore Petroleum Industry Pioneers Receive Hall of Fame Induction

The Offshore Pioneers Gala, sponsored by the Offshore Energy Center (OEC) Society, showcased the 1999 class of offshore petroleum industry pioneers inducted into the OEC Hall of Fame. Robert F. Bauer, former president of Global Marine, for his developments in the technology of offshore drilling from floating drilling rigs. Herman Brown and George R. Brown, founders of Brown & Root in 1919, created a premier design and construction company, producing offshore platforms and pipelines. Ralph Thomas McDermott began J. Ray McDermott & Co. when he took a contract to build 50 wooden derricks in Luling, Texas. Lad Handelman and D. Michael Hughes co-founded Oceaneering International, Inc., in 1969. Together, they oversaw several major innovations in underwater technology.

ACMA Celebrates 30th Anniversary

Alan C. McClure Associates (ACMA), a naval architecture and engineering firm, recently celebrated its 30th year in business. The company was founded in 1975 by Alan C. McClure, who was recognized in 2003 by the Offshore Energy Center Hall of Fame as an "Industry Pioneer." Today, the company serves a diverse client base of domestic and international clientele with services that include geophysical, exploration drilling, production drilling, FPSO and a full range of marine transportation projects. "From the day my father launched AMCA, the company has specialized in the application of advanced engineering technology for offshore petroleum and marine transportation projects," said ACMA President Scott McClure.
