As the flood waters from Hurricane Harvey receded and Gulf coast residents embarked on the arduous road to recovery, the offshore energy industry took stock and counted its losses and blessings. Offshore energy facilities faired remarkably well compared to onshore energy facilities, many of which suffered catastrophic damage from flood waters.

OMSA Applauds SAFE Port Act

The Offshore Marine Service Association (OMSA) applauds Congress for its passage of the Security and Accountability for Every (SAFE) Port Act. The legislation contains a key provision that will help reduce the risk of terrorist activity in America’s offshore oil and gas sector. Offshore drilling and production facilities have been vulnerable because there was not requirement for foreign vessels to report security information to the Coast guard when they go to work in offshore areas, according to OMSA. Currently, foreign vessels that call on U.S. ports are required to report information on crewmembers, vessel owners, cargo and the extent of their security plans.

NEVA 2003 Slated for September 22-25

Another big increase in exhibitors is already a reality for the NEVA 2003 Exhibition in St Petersburg, Russia, 22 - 25 September. New National Pavilions are expected from Italy, Holland and USA this year, joining the enlarged traditional groups from Germany, Finland, Croatia, Ukraine, Denmark, Norway and the Baltic States.
