A New Generation of WTIVs

WTIVs have always been fuel-hungry. Now they are being tasked with installations that are further, deeper and heavier.Offshore wind farms continue their march into deeper water, further from shore, with turbines that can now reach more than 270 meters high with blades 120 meters long. Designers and OEMs are pushing efficiency to new levels to contain OPEX on the new-generation jack-up WTIVs taking them up there.Danish ship design firm Knud E. Hansen has chosen specialization for its Atlas A-class WTIV, a smaller derivation of its massive C-class design.

Kongsberg Maritime has launched EcoAdvisor, an intelligent and dynamic decision support system for optimizing a range of offshore vessel operations. Bluewater Taps Royston for FPSO Engine Overhaul

FPSO operator Bluewater Services signed a framework agreement with marine engineering and maintenance firm Royston for engine overhaul, repair, and associated services on two of its FPSOs.Under the agreement, Royston will carry out planned engine maintenance and emergency repairs on the Haewene Brim and Aoka Mizu FPSOs operating in the North Sea. LR Appoints Papageorgiou as M&O President

Lloyd’s Register (LR) has appointed Elina Papageorgiou as its new Marine and Offshore President for UK and Ireland, commencing on April 1, 2020.Papageorgiou has held a variety of roles across North and South Europe in sales, marketing and finance functions since joining LR in 2004. Most recently, she led LR’s Marine and Offshore sales teams in 11 different countries across South Europe.Papageorgiou graduated with a BSc in Economics from Brunel University and has an MBA from Imperial College London.

Oil is Down, Not Out: BOEM Proposes 40-Million-Acre GOM Lease Sale

Despite the continued depressed price of oil and gas, the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) via Director Abigail Ross Hopper announced that BOEM will offer 40 million acres offshore Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama for oil and gas exploration and development in sales that will include all available unleased areas in the Central and Eastern Gulf of Mexico Planning Areas. Proposed Gulf of Mexico Central Planning Area Lease Sale 241 and Eastern Planning Area Lease Sale 226, scheduled to take place in New Orleans, Louisiana, in March of 2016, will be the ninth and tenth offshore sales under the Administration’s Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program for 2012-2017 (Five-Year Program).

Safety at VIKING Scales New Heights

Prospects in the North American marine equipment market have triggered a new and distribution agreement between control specialist Lilaas AS and marine and offshore sales and support organization Imtra Corporation, of New Bedford, Mass. The deal, initially over three years, will see Imtra’s 52-man organization offering product and after sales technical support for Lilaas control levers, joysticks and rudder controls in the U.S. and Canada. Bureau Veritas to Class, Certify FPSOs for Saipem

Bureau Veritas has been awarded a contract by Saipem to provide classification and certification services for the two Kaombo FPSOs for service off Angola. The $4 billion project for the FPSOs was awarded to Saipem by Total for the engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning of two converted turret-moored Floating Production Storage and Offloading units (FPSOs) for the Kaombo Field Development Project, located in Block 32, offshore Angola. Triplex Deck Equipment for New BOA AHTS Vessels

Triplex secures a new Triplex MDH 42 order from BOA offshore, including supply of Shark Jaws, Vertical Guide Pins & Spooling Block. Triplex say that BOA is the third ship-owner in Norway to opt for the Triplex MDH multi-purpose deck handling equipment on its AHTS vessels. The contract is for 1+1 vessel of Wartsila VS 491 design, and the equipment is scheduled for delivery in January 2014. "We are delighted that BOA has chosen Triplex Deck Equipment for its new AHTS vessels”, says Offshore Sales Manager at Triplex AS, Even Kippernes.

China Offshore Units to be Caterpillar Powered

Cat® 16CM32C generator sets selected to provide main power for a fixed platform & FPSO slated to operate in the Enping Oilfield. Four 16CM32C generator sets will be installed on the fixed drilling production platform; the remaining four will be installed on the FPSO, with the option to purchase another 2 generator sets at a future date. Each of the 16CM32C generator sets offers 7,680 kWe (9,600 kVA) and 60 Hz @ 720 rpm. CNOOC China Ltd. placed the order with delivery of the units, including auxiliary systems, to be provided in the summer of 2013.

René Raaijmakers has been appointed as IHC Merwede’s new Offshore Sales Director. He succeeded the previous incumbent Twan Voogt on 1 December 2012. Mr Raaijmakers joined IHC Merwede’s in April 2012 as Product Director of the Renewables department and Manager of IHC Offshore Systems. In his new role, he will be responsible for all commercial activities within the Offshore division. He began his career with Bluewater, a leading offshore FPSO contractor and worked there for 14 years.

Supplying Brazil's Booming OSV Market

Local equipment suppliers reap dividends, but there’s room for foreign businesses – if they know how to play. After huge oil finds in recent years, Brazil's need for offshore vessels continues to expand and could double between now and the end of the decade. Brazil's state-run oil company Petrobras wants to extract billions of barrels of oil while also developing its shipbuilding and service industries to create jobs. Meanwhile, Brazil is trying to use locally made vessels and equipment, but foreign companies are benefiting from the nation's oil bonanza too.

HATLAPA Supplies Winches to Emergency Tug

HATLAPA is playing an active role in helping to protecting our coastlines. The manufacturer‟s experience in the development and production of steering gear, compressors, deck machinery and offshore winches has led to a 2.5 million Euro order for deck machinery, steering gear and compressors for the Nordic. Initiated by the German Federal Ministry of Transport, the construction of the emergency tug vessel was undertaken by three ship owners in the German Bight – Bugsier, Fairplay Towage and Unterweser – joined by Wiking Helikopter, a local specialist helicopter company.

Freddy Brandsborg joins Danfoss-Sea Recovery to manage Commercial Marine and Offshore sales in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Alstom Diesel Electric Solution Selected by Otto Candies

Alstom won contract to supply electrical systems for a vessel being built for Otto Candies by the de Hoop shipyard in the Netherlands. The order includes a simplex dynamic positioning (DP) system from Altsom's 'A' series, plus manual thrusters controls and an independent joystick, for the NB400 offshore support vessel for Otto Candies, which is to be built at the Dutch shipyard. This DP order comes on the back of an earlier contract for the same vessel, to supply variable speed drives from Alstom's MV3000 liquid cooled range, plus transformers and motors for the two main 900kW azimuth thrusters.
