Cold Water Can Kill in Minutes

The UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) has highlighted that, on average, crew have under 11 minutes to recover someone who has fallen overboard into cold water before they become unresponsive.An analysis of 20 accidents that occurred between 2017 and 2021 shows that the time decreases as the water becomes colder or the sea state rougher. Workboat Industry Sets Out to Accelerate Decarbonization

Flexible Pod System Key to WFSV Versatility

workboatd designer and builder CTruk cites versatility as a key factor in Offshore Turbine Servicesā€™ (OTS) acquisition of seven 18.5-meter wind farm support vessels (WFSV) over the past three years. OTS has worked its CTruk fleet all around the U.K. and into Europe on various wind farm projects and one of the key aspects of its busy employment has been the versatility provided by the flexible deck pod system that enables the boat to be reconfigured in a matter of hours to carry out a variety of roles.

OTS took delivery of its sixth CTruk 20T MPC vessel, with its seventh coming by the end of May. Pontrilas-based Offshore Turbine Services (OTS) offers crew, fuel, cargo and equipment transfer services to offshore wind turbines, sub stations and other offshore developments requiring maritime logistics. Speed, flexibility, minimum vessel downtime and cost-effectiveness are the companyā€™s main focus points, and according to CTRUK, OTSā€™ decision to operate its multi-role composite catamaran workboats has proven key in delivering these.

Offshore Turbine Services Order More CTruk Boats

Offshore Turbine Services (OTS) has ordered two more CTruk 20T MPCs for delivery in spring 2014. The inking of this latest order comes as the company prepare to name their fifth CTruk multi-purpose cat in Brightlingsea this week, the Commodore P. CTruk explain that from the start OTSā€™ operations director, Nick Bright, has worked closely with CTruk on enhancing the 20T design to fit their specific requirements. With his years of experience as a commercial fisherman, there is little Nick doesnā€™t know about the demands made on these boats at sea on 24/7 offshore operations.

Composite Carries Savings for Offshore Turbine Services

Hereford-based Offshore Turbine Services reported savings from choosing composite over aluminum craft in the offshore wind market. As the company takes delivery of its fourth CTruk 20T multi-purpose cat, Commander P, and eagerly awaits Commodore P, the fifth, this May, chairman Phil Collins commented on this decision, ā€œWe are very pleased that in under a year we have managed to establish ourselves in such a dynamic and innovative industry. New Offshore Turbine Service Catamaran Joins CTruck Fleet

The third CTruk 20T multi-purpose catamaran to join the expanding Offshore Turbine Services fleet is now operational on the London Array. The new vessel, named Admiral P,  joins sister workboats Cardinal P and Captain P, all resin-infusion composite vessels designed and built by CTruk at its base in Brightlingsea, Essex, UK. Offshore Turbine Servicesā€™ aim was to enter and make their mark on an increasingly competitive offshore wind support market. Vessel choice was therefore a key considerationā€¦

Second CTruck Catamaran for Offshore Turbine Services Named

The vessel for deployment at Lincs (UK) wind farm, has been named Captain P in Brightlingsea. With two CTruk vessels now operational, Offshore Turbine Services  inked the deal for a third before the second even hit the water, being thoroughly convinced of the designā€™s flexibility and fuel economies gained from its lightweight construction. CTruk technicians and staff joined the owners on board the 20T MPC, ā€˜Captain Pā€™, for the traditional blessing and bottle smash, followed by a launch party at a local wine bar. Work has already started on the third vessel at CTrukā€™s Brightlingsea base.
