NOV Wins Offshore Wind Vessel Deal in China

Chinese shipbuilder China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) has awarded NOV a contract to design and supply equipment for GustoMSC NG-14000XL-G wind turbine installation jack-up vessel to be built for OHT, a Norwegian heavy transport and installation contractor."In close collaboration with VIND Offshore Installation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of OHT, the design is specifically tailored to create a next-generation offshore wind installation unit with a significantly reduced carbon footprint," the company, which last year changed its name from National Oilwell Varco to NOV, said.

No Takers for Vizhinjam Seaport Project

Despite the government of India extending a Viability Gap Funding (VGF) of $ 131 mln (Rs 790 crore) to the $682 mln (Rs 4,089-crore )Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport project, no firm turned up for finalizing tender on Friday. Following this, the opening of the tender for fixing the private partner for the Public Private Partnership (PPP) project was extended for another month. Even the three companies that purchased the Request for Proposal (RFP) documents- Adani, Essar and a consortium consisting of SREI and Spanish firm OHL-have not submitted tender documents as the deadline ended at 11 a.m. The officials in the government aren’t brushing aside the possibility of heavy-duty foul play.

Zamakona Delivers Ro-Ro Ramp to TCT

This past Wednesday, January 15, Zamakona Yards carried out the load testing and delivery of the movable ramp for the roll on roll off dock built for the Container Terminal of Tenerife (OHL Group). Zamakona  said the elevating structure is the only of its kind in the Canary Islands, permitting a more versatile use of the pier since it will only be employed when vessels with rolling stock arrive (Ro-Ro), permitting the use of the dock for conventional vessels at other times. It consist of an elevating ramp, 25 meters wide by 20 meters long, for vessels docking at this point in Tenerife.

GPA adds Cargo, Customers in FY2013

Georgia Ports Authority Executive Director Curtis Foltz addresses more than 1,200 attendees during the 2013 State of the Port address, Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013 in Savannah, Ga.

In his State of the Port address, Georgia Ports Authority Executive Director Curtis Foltz reported record cargo volumes, an influx of new business, and more than 1 million square feet of distribution center space leased or developed. “Not only did the ports authority achieve strong growth across major segments of our business, but the private sector responded with the lease or development of more than 1.1 million square feet of distribution center space,” said GPA Executive Director Curtis Foltz.

Two Finalist Proposals for New Port of Philadelphia Terminal

Less than three months after seeking proposals from interested parties to design, operate and maintain a major new marine terminal in South Philadelphia, Governor Edward G. Rendell announced on July 23 the shortlist of teams that will continue in the solicitation process developing a public-private partnership that is expected to bring millions of dollars of investment to the region. One of the teams selected was a consortium comprising Delaware River Stevedores (DRS) and Hyundai Merchant Marine America (HMMA). DRS is a joint venture between Carrix Inc., and Ports America Group, the two largest independent terminal operating companies in the United States. DRS has vast stevedoring experience at several major U.S. ports, including the Port of Philadelphia.

SENER Takeover of Mexican Firm III, S.A. de C.V.

In 2007, SENER President, Jorge Sendagorta, signed with III General Manager, Eduardo Bosque, the purchase agreement of the 40% of III, with the compromise of acquiring 100% of the Mexican engineering company in 2010. Since then, SENER and III have been consolidating their relationship until they have culminated this operation with the constitution of the new company III Grupo SENER. The purchase of the 100% of III by the Spanish engineering company SENER closes a process that began in March 2005, when both companies signed a strategic alliance. By virtue of this alliance, SENER entered the Mexican market with one of the country's main engineering companies, while also promoting III's capacity to contract turnkey projects.
